Daniel had taken up residence on the couch and was deciding on which video game to play when he heard his phone ring. Just when he thought he could sneak in a little play time...he emitted a slight laugh before checking the caller id. His suspicions confirmed, he answered:
"Yeeeeeeees?" As he awaited her response, he sorted through the game cases in front of him, attempting to single one out in case she wasn't calling to tell him she was coming home early. Of course, it was her day off, so maybe she was out at the supermarket or doing whatever wives do when husbands aren't around. What DO they do anyway? Daniel's thought process was brought back to reality when he heard Ari answer.

Ari smiled softly when Daniel answered, and placed her phone on speakerphone as she stopped at a red light. "Do you need anything from the store? I wasn't able to make it there earlier since I got called into work. I left my list sitting on the counter, and I didn't know if there was any snacks you needed." She replied, before resuming her driving once the light changed. It had become an every week, or every two week occurrence where she'd run to the store in her work apparel, but she didn't mind. It just made you look slightly important in life. Hence the reason she tried getting in and out as quickly as possible since dress shoes were a pain. But, back to the list. She knew they needed milk, some bread, and some cleaning products. Not much, but their cupboards were slowly becoming bare.

"Well need and want are two very different things. If it was up to me, I would want you to purchase every single bag of Doritos and join in me a heathenish celebration of Frito Lay snacks. Need, however, is a different story: we need apples." Daniel walked into the kitchen, opening the fridge door before saying:
"And meat. We have no meat. No soymilk either. Need that. Otherwise, you're good. And do come home soon; we need to talk about a few things." Leaving her in the dark to build suspense was something he would do on a normal basis, the soldier turned counselor knowing she was quite used to the technique. Although, with Ari's innocent nature, every time was like the first time.

    It was fantastic, really.

She snickered at his response, just as she pulled into the grocery store. Since Ari's car was slightly newer, she typically parked farther away to avoid other people dinging her vehicle. "Doritos party eh? I think that would be very interesting. Might have to get one of those plastic children's pool and lounge outside. But, we'd need an alcoholic beverage to complete the party." The thought was intriguing, and she'd have to surprise Daniel with a few bags, if nothing more than a joke.
"Okay, I have apples, meat, and soymilk. And some random snacks just to have some around." She gave a slight laugh as she slowly got out of the car, and car door closed behind her. She arched an eyebrow as he said they needed to talk, and a quiet sigh escaped her lips. Sometimes the term 'we need to talk' was a bad thing.
"Okay hun, it won't take me long at all. Maybe a half an hour at the most. If you need anything give me a call." She grinned, though the curiosity was eating at her.

Was it something bad? Or something good?

The next twenty minutes or so featured Daniel lazing on the couch, an xbox controller in hand as he participated in what Ari had so lovingly dubbed "Wife ignorance" time. It wasn't as if the former soldier had the time to park his rear in front of a television to play xbox with the "homies" all the time, but when he did, that's all he could focus on. On more than one occasion, Ari had asked him a question or very, very politely asked him to do a chore and he had completely ignored her. The relatively new husband learned rather quickly that he would have to indulge in this less intellectually stimulating hobby when she wasn't around.

When he heard the door open, he rose from the couch and helped carry in the rest of the groceries, not saying a word to her. Once everything was inside, he leaned against the side of the fridge, a smile coming across his face.
"John got me a position as a counselor over at Fort Meade. I start on Tuesday."

The whole trip seemed to go rather smoothly, she was able to find what she needed easily and without too many people getting in her way. The only slight bump in the road was the check out line, but she was able to snag a magazine to entertain herself in the mean time. Ari had to admit that some of *the articles weren't too bad, but the others needed some work. It just depended on the author. But, before she could get more of an idea of what some magazines had, it was her turn to place her items onto the belt. She thanked the cashier before lugging her stuff to the car, and her last bit of excitement was the car ride home.

She had never been more relieved to pull into her own driveway, take some of the groceries inside, and have the help of her husband. Though the silence wasn't unusual, she was quite curious to see what this 'talk' was about. She heard him speak and offered him a smile before replying, "That's great hun! He really was able to pull through and get you a job quickly, wasn't he?" As she spoke she gave him a quick hug before putting the milk and meat away.
"Are you excited about your new job?"
