The hairs on the back of Flint's neck were standing on end. Something was WRONG here... his finely attuned senses allowed him to sense it keenly. In apprehension, he drew his pistol and pulled back the hammer, a .45 ACP round clicking into the chamber.
Walking up beside Harry, he carefully kept the drawn pistol hidden. He was surprised to see the young woman, and tried to see past her to the driver's side, here he could only just make out the driver slumped over the seat.
"...something's screwy here..." he whispered to Harry.

"To those who can hear me I say, do not despair; the misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of Human progress."

Avi was a self important, uptight pain in the arse, but that didn't stop her from being utterly correct. The downpour would keep certian supernatural threats at bay and give them something of a boon. However if it continued into the night hearing and visability would be impaired and drizzle wouldn't keep the worst of the things at bay. " I suppose so, but raw-heads and class two water nymphs are empowered by it, and given more of a range to hunt in. Scotlands only ever hado ne rawhead case, the Greyman of Cairn Glen. Nymphs are histroically populace here though." Stranger breathed in a puff of smoke before dropping his cigerette and stepping on it, exhaling the smoke through his nose and glancing skyward. " Given the choice I'd find a farm and bed down for the night, but we have a limited window before the tides change and magic can be cast again."

Avi seemed amused by the little pocketwatch and cared for it, lovingly wiping the screen. When she offered it back Stranger glanced at it. " Keep it, You'll get more use out of it than I will." The sniper rifles crack rang out and Strange glanced to the truck, expecting to see the driver slam on the breaks. Insteas the truck rolled to a stop, the windscreen shattered around the spot where the driver had mere seconds ago been chatting with the young woman. The corpse lay slumped in the drivers side and Stranger shot a withering glance down range at Stuart. His jaw set in a thick, tight line. For a few moments Stranger weighed up the possibility of executing Stuart. He needed professionals, people who knew when, and how to act. He did not need sadists who existed only to up their kill count. Worse still the sniper had murdered someone at a crossroads! Did he not understand the consequences of such an action? He had taken one good human soul out of the world and possibly replaced it with another monster.

Avi seemed to know more than the rest, and Flint was act cagey, chambring a round in preperation. The Stranger transferred his gaze from the sniper t othe woman in the side seat. When Avi spat 'slime' his eyes narrowed. The creature was contained in a vehicle, to step out was to invite death. With the monster contained Stranger moved to the drivers door and opened it, pulling the corpse out onto the road. Muttering latin prayers the Stranger carefully applied droplets of water from his canteen to the ruined face of the man. It was a messy patchwork solution but he had t o try and prevent the man returning as a vampire. Men murdered at crossroads often found their bodies possessed by the unseen spirits that linger at such significant places. A crossroad represented a great many things and acted a a small eacon for certian types of spirit. Should one such spirit gain entry to the flesh it would return as a vampire the minute the body was buried. The small ritual would hopefully cleanse the dead flesh of any such malefactor.

With that seen to Stranger rose to join the others in confronting the new appearance. Harry was trying a soft approach to ease ehr from the passanger seat, bu the slime knew to leave was to die and the big soldiers carefully chosen words did little beyond show he had a heart. Avi's reaction was more similer to his own. drawing one of his pistols Stranger pushed his way to the front of the crowd. Even his tall form appearing diminutive beside Harry. "She won't step out." Waving the team forward Stranger took out his water canteen. " Say hello to your first monster. An ectoplasmic entity. Probably 'Smile' class. It can't stay in the water for long." In a normal situation Stranger would have killed it without a second thought, but he didn't have enough time before nightfall to make sure the job was done properly. " Under authority of Spookhouse, and the U.S, U.K, U.S.S.R and Canadian goverments I place you under arrest and deportation back to Spookhouse HQ for assement." He rather coldly told the slime creature. " And just so you know where you stand with me..." Raising his pistol Stranger blasted the slime creature at point black range.

The 45 Apc round was a very heavy, powerful bullet, tipped with silver but it would have little efect on the slime monster beyond making a bit of a splash and punching a hole in the driver side door. "You make a move against me, or any of my people and I'll snatch the life out of you. Next time I'll start blasting holes in the roof untill your swimming in rain water." Sheathing his pistol Stranger turned from the group to make a rough inspection of the vehicle.

The no-nonsense man took in that the truck had three seats. A driver and two passangers in the front cabin. Marching with a heavy footed step to the back of the truck Stranger unbuckled the solid cargo guard and let it fall over. The back of the tuck was full of green boxes, evidently army surplus. A manifest dangled from the shipping container reading the contents and also a nanme of the signer. Joe Mac Laughlin. The same man who happened to be the redevous agent in the area. The manifest was also makred with the Spookhouse symbol and Stranger knew that eerything in the boxes would have been repurposed. " This truck was going the same way we are." He muttuered almost tohimself, lifting his hat to sweep a hand through his hair before replacing it. " Shit."

The unmocing hunk of granite Stranger had for a face seemed a touch grimer than usual when he swung back to the group. " We're burning through time. Flint, Stuart, Harry and Veronica are in the back. Check the boxes back there and see if you can find any repurposed rounds. I have a feeling whatever we'll be facing the agency will have sent supplies ahead. Check for re-purposed rounds of ammo matching your weapon types. I strongly advise you to switch out." Glancing to Avi and Winters, then beyond to the slime thing Stranger grunted. " I'm not sitting in there with that freak. Winters, your driving. Avi, your navigating." With too little in both the back and the front Stranger moved to the passanger sdoor and stood on the jutting metal step beneath the door. Locking his arm through the window to brace him he drew his pistol and kept it trained on their newest temporary recruit. " Follow this road. Avi will tell you when to turn off it. The village is marked on the map."

You may bury my body down by the highway side, so my old evil spirit can catch a greyhound bus and ride.

Winters hurried over to the passenger side, just in time to see the young girl get blasted point-blank. Now normally Winters would have shifted his sights onto Stranger for shooting the civilian, but after seeing the splash of ooze he realized with a shock that the young girl before him was a monster of some kind. He knew he was told to expect the unexpected, but this was truly unexpected. Putting two and two together, Winters realized the creature must fear water as it was keeping itself pressed to the passengers un-damaged side, shielding it from the onslaught of rain that must've felt like a naval bombardment to her...

Cannons firing...machine gun fire rattling...explosions...men...screaming...blood... so much blood....

    "Winters, you're driving."

Stranger's voice snapped Winters back into reality, as the flashback had made him lose his focus on the current events. Acting quickly to avoid worrying the squad, Winters hopped in beside Avi, turning the keys in the ignition as the rest of the team got in the back of the truck. He smiled at Avi, hoping the introduction of the "Slime girl" and navigating would distract her from his slight emotional trip just minutes ago.

Once everyone had gotten situated, Winters began driving down the road waiting for Avi to tell him of any course-corrections or where to turn next. He hoped the ride would go smoothly, especially with all this rain.

After he had blasted the driver, Stuart muttered"Ballocks." Apparently, as he gathered hsi gear and rant woards the truck, Stranger agreed. Stuatart apologized by sayin,"Oi! Captain! You said stop the vehicel! Ya never said nuffin' 'bout how I was supposed to do that. I put ya bullet frew the windscreen, sorry." he then hopped in the truck and began to sreach the boxes. he was in deep shit with the others and he knew it. he'd fucked up and they weren't forgiving him for it. he remained silent and began to search through until he found some re purposed 8mm rounds for his Mauser, which he swapped for own.

It seemed Avi would have to ride with the Slime. The very thought sent a million other nasty thoughts in her mind. Slimes where a nasty bunch, she cared very little for them.
She was not at all looking forward to a ride likely filled with silence. However it looked like the ride would also be shared with Winters, someone whom she hadn’t quite spoken to yet.

He seemed like a decent fellow, really he hadn’t said anything that would let her throw a smart ass comment his way. Nor had he tried starting anything in the group. Suddenly she was nervis about working with him, what if she screwed up with this one too? Stuart and Stranger had already put her in the down low.

    Do what the book says!

    It isn’t that easy.

Soaked to the bone, from hair to toe, Avi jumped, she had to jump into the car no thanks to her small height, and took a seat with the bag in her lap. As soon as she made herself comfortable, Avi began digging in the bag, retrieving her reading glasses and the map. Once the frames were over the bridge of her nose and the map, while damp in some areas cause of her wet hands, open and their location found, the group was ready to go.

Winters entered the truck, ready for the drive.. or so he tried to make it seem. Avi frowned at him. Something was on his mind, and it could have been connected to the dead man now lying in the mud. She tried to access what to tell him or do.

“Winters” She started, hoping she looked comforting however Avi’s eyes squinted at him, almost like she was scolding him. “It… will be ok? Yes?”

There you go! That wasn’t so hard!

    So far, so good.

“Go on. There won’t be a turn for a while.”

The truck went forth, taking the dare to drive into the hard rain, and it was a bumpy ride. The roads weren’t too smoothed out. If the setting was more happy and there wasn’t blood all over the seats, Avi would have found the ride exciting.

Sure enough, the events of the day, and what a day it was, began to wear down on her. Through out the trip Avi rubbed her eyes, suppressed a yawn, and fought the shivers from the cold air from the rain. Oh how it would be grand to find a dry warm place to close heavy eyelids for a moment.

“You should be able to see a turn in a few more miles, I think that is it right there”

The turn lead the group to a cluster of lights, soon reveled to be the town. Finally. Once the truck made its entry to the town, which looked so depressing with the rainfall, “Keep going, perhaps there is an abandoned farmhouse around here.” Avi didn’t think anyone had too much money in their pockets, and it would be best to stop in a farm house, much like Jóképű stated earlier. They would be able to go in and out without human contact or getting into trouble. After all, they did just steal a truck and killed the driver with his blood still on the seats and headboard.

It would take some time to find one, however the search was successful, only a mile from the town stood an old barn house, still somehow standing with the pain chipping off and a broken gate guarding it. Avi stayed quiet, letting Winters position the truck wherever he thought best to hide them from townfolk. It seemed the rain wouldn’t stop its pouring, Avi hoped that the barn’s roof, though she doubted it, would protect them from most of the rain.

Doors opened, and Avi make quick to get out from the drivers side and onto the ground and back into the pouring rain. The barns rear doors were still cracked open, making it easy for the team to just walk in. To her amazement the roof held steady, even after years of abandonment. The hey was old, but still held shape.. and perhaps rodents of many. With green eyes lifting up to the rafters she spotted a few birds nests, old and new, probly the birds themselves still sleeping.

“Well then, if that is all we need for the night, I’m off to nap, if there needs to be someone awake to watch over everyone else, just wake me up for my turn.”

With that, Avi walked over to the barns wall, leaping up and grasping hold of holes and gasps in the walls, pulling herself up to the rafters above. She smiled, spotting what she suspected, birds still nestled in their nests, tilting their heads at her. A long sigh cascaded out of her lips as she sat on the beam, legs resting infront of her, her back against the barn wall, and finally her eyes shut. Even in cold wet cloths, she was quick to fall asleep, regardless the settings around them

Winters smiled at Avi's struggle to give some comfort to him.

"No worries, thank you for your concern, Avi." Winters said in a happier tone, picking up some speed as night was closing fast.

Winters ignored the blood stains, he'd seen far worse, and kept driving down the road. Avi spoke up about a turn coming up in a minute or so based on the speed he was driving. The drive was a bit bumpy, but they made it unscathed into the town. He knew they'd have to find some abandoned building or farmhouse to make a temporary base of operations, so Winters drove carefully through the town. Trying to not attract any uneeded attention in the process from the townsfolk, slowly winding their way up to a dilapidated looking barn a ways away from the town.

Winters parked the truck on the side of the barn, where there seemed to be an over extention that would shield the truck from the rain as well as a rickety shutter that would hide the rear of the vehicle. Hopping out of the truck, Winters walked around the back of the parked vehicle spotting an opened box of ammunition that looked slightly similar to his .45 rounds for his Thompson and M1911. Winters grabbed one of the containers of ammo and began swapping out the ammo in his weapons. After finishing this process and emptying the container of "special" ammo, Winters still had an extra mag of ordinary .45's that he decided to keep anyway. The new ammunition was probably made to handle the monsters they'd be up against, but having a little more ammunition never hurt anyone...well except the people in his sights of course.

Winters just nodded as Avi made her way into the barn, following to make sure nothing would jump out at them. Aside from the birds curious with their new visitors, the barn was packed with hay which would make sleeping a bit easier. Winters un-strapped his helmet before sitting on a small bale of hay, resting for the first time in what seemed like a while. Leaning his Thompson well-within reach if need be, he checked his side arm to make sure it was there along with the blade on his thigh. With his self-check complete, Winters spoke up in a bit of a hushed tone to the rest of the group along with that "slime" creature or whatever the hell it was.

"I'll take first watch with someone else, any volunteers?"

Stuart stepped out of the back of the tuck, his rifle reloaded, and said,"I'm volunterrin' I'll do it with ya. Give thee others a chance to sleep it off, which it seems Avi's already doin' Fuckin' 'ell." This weather was something else entirely. Stuart had known rain, they got plenty of it and plenty of fog too, but this..seemed unnatural. Also, Stuart wanted some time to think about his earlier failed shot. He couldn't believe it. If he'd gotten his head out of his ass, he might've not killed the poor chap. But, things being what they were, he was got to still be living.

He said to Winters,"Alright Yank, how you wanna do this? you wanna watch 'er and I'll go have a good walk round the place? or what?"

Harry had hopped into the back as told and got comfortable against the side near a few crates. They matched what he needed so he took his time grabbing some of the specialized ammo and placing it in his bag, not willing to switch just yet. He kept quiet the whole ride to the barn and not a sound came from his general direction besides rain or bumps.

Once they reached the old building he jumped out at a slower pace and headed in. His instinct was to find a corner, slump into it and hope to hell he actually slept. His mind was still uneasy about a lot of things since his joining on with this team but even beyond that he had other concerns. "If either of you two have any trouble, I'm a light sleeper so I can help on short notice." Harry said, no more mumbled these words after placing his shotgun to his right and laying his rifle across his lap. He leaned his head back against the corner so he could attempt to rest.

Winters looked up at Stuart, standing up before addressing the sniper. He wasn't going to start yelling at Stuart, this wasn't the time, that could wait till they were back at HQ.

"There's a ladder that looks to lead to a small loft area, with the holes in the roof and walls I think you'd be best up there. You'll have about a 180 degree watch of the surrounding area, 360 if you walk along that beam, but with you and Avi's standing I don't recommend it." Winters spoke carefully, as to not wake Avi, picking up his Thompson as he walked forward. "I'll patrol the barn for a bit, but I'll come get you Harry if I dtart feeling a little drowsy."

With that Winters walked out of the barn into the pouring rain, his Thompson locked and loaded and a sense of urgency in his heart. Something was out there, that feeling was still with him, and he'd be damned if it got the drop on his comrades.

Alice was shocked when the one man fried the gun at her. Even if it didn't hurt, being that smiles really can't feel pain, it still surprised her he could tell she was not human. He could even say what she was, and why should couldn't get out. Even with all that not killing her, surprised her the most of all the events that quickly happen.

"You make a move against me, or any of my people and I'll snatch the life out of you. Next time I'll start blasting holes in the roof untill your swimming in rain water." Hearing the man say this, Alice saw he was giving her a chance. At first sign of the rain stopping she knew she was going to escape from these people.

This man also seemed to act as the leader of this group of people, by the way he barked out orders on what there was going to do. They followed his orders, and soon the truck was moving to where ever the destination was, Alice saw herself as just a prisoner to them. She was going to behave in this situation for her own survival.

This whole trip has been one mess after another. First she gets run out of a town, after they find out what she really was. Then she gets stuck a truck, unable to get out because of it, for the reason of death, and now she was more or less a prisoner of this rag tag team of people. She only hoped for the rain to stop so she could make her getaway.

When the truck stop, at a old barn. Alice just sat in the truck watching all the people, get out. Once they went into the barn, she got out her book, and began to read again. She had nothing else to do, slimes don't sleep, and she couldn't get out of the truck with the rain still pouring like a water fall outside it. So reading was her only option, and she was ok with that.
