((Go go random encounter! Wild Blue Angel Appeared!))

Gavin turned the corner just in time to see his bus pull away from the curb. He blinked with surprise. He missed his bus? That almost never happened. But he didn't want to be late for his shift either. He started walking down the street, but realized after a few minutes that that would take too long. Besides, the shortest distance between two points was a straight line. So he needed to go over the buildings. He grinned, and cut across th street and headed down the nearest alley. Where no one could see him, he quickly scaled the fire escape, using it to climb to the roof top, perching on the edge of the short wall that rimmed the top of the building.

From that vantage point, he could truly appreciate the beauty of the day, the cool breeze that was gentle drifting at that height was worth missing the bus for. After a few moments of appreciation and contemplation, he hopped off his perch and make a casual dash for the other side, leaping from one building to the other with skill that came naturally, rather than from training. About four buildings later, he switched to his hero outfit in a glow of black light. It wasn't like people were likely to look up, much less spot someone skipping over the rooftops, but it felt more natural to do it as Black Cat.

Of course, as it was when it came to him, it was good fortune that he did. One of his jumps almost had him clip the wings of someone flapping around the buildings. He flipped, twisting in the air and landed on his feet like any true cat would. "Yeah, there! Doesn't this city have a minimum flight altitude?"

Evaine sneered sharply at the criminal. For a bank robber, he sure had a mouth on him! Her sneer quickly turned into gaping disbelief as he not just began on an overly generic villainous tirade, but cut himself off and started over! Already, she could feel herself blushing under her thick pelt. This guy wasn't taking her seriously at all. As he finished his brief gloating, he used some sort of telekinetic power to fling a chair at her.

Reflexively, she thrust her hands out in front of herself, blocking the projectile with her open palms. It was a solid impact, but her thick skin and dense muscle managed to absorb it without incident, causing the chair to fall to the ground in front of her. Unfazed, she promptly hurdled over the upturned furniture and hurled herself towards the Doctor, swinging a massive claw upwards in an attempt to grab onto his loose coat.

    "Hey Lucy! wake up!"

Why oh why did I let him infest my CB? the thought echoed in Lucien Draegovic's mind, like it always did when Vak woke him up.

Of course, seeing that CB stood for Crystal-Ball, and Vak was short for Vak'torus the Incessant, a rather minor servitor daemon, this scene was hardly as normal as it first seemed. Lucien, who hated being called "Lucy," roused himself and told off the daemon, "Vak! Seriously, I told you. I only work at night. The skin." The young mage was an albino and avoid direct sunlight as much as possible, added to his eastern European accent this resulted in common accusations of vampirism.

"This is important, Boss!" The irritating daemon continued, "There is a demi-god in town! A valkyrie's get."

Is she summoning a horde of berserk viking wraiths from the Halls of Valhalla to conquer fair Westport?

    "No. She's ..."

    "Don't care, Vak."

The hero known as either "Warlock" or "The Warlock" depending on your taste in naming conventions went back to bed.

    "Oh, and she's not a demi-god. A Valkyrie is a demi-god, this one's more of a semi-demi-god."

Why did superhero's always think a headlong rush is the answer to every problem? Honestly. It he was a common criminal, he might forgive such antics, but he was a genius. A mad scientist and supervillain. And that generally required the person to be, frankly, smart. Granted, their was a difference between intelligent and smart, but he was both. Maybe when this was all over, he would write a paper on the subject. But he shouldn't allow himself to get caught up with such thoughts mid battle. Even if he could maintain seven distinct lines of thoughts simultaneously.

He side-stepped with sharp, yet small, burst of energy; the thrusting himself out of the direct line of Khymera's lunge. It was a similar energy output to that his propulsion drives emitted, but it was one thing to be able to create thrust, quite another to sustain the minimum requirements for flight. Which was why he still relied on his devices and their calibrated drives to do the flying for him. But again, he was digressing. He really need to focus in a fight. Still, a confined space like the bank. The hostages were already screaming and scrambling for the door. He fired a concussive blast at Khymera, both propelling himself towards the door as well as attacking the hero of the moment.

    -------

"Ah, I guess that's why I missed the bus," he murmured with realization. One of these days, he would figure out exactly how his particular role in the balance of things worked. what was so important about his woman that he had to meet her? Or was it something that would result from him meeting her? Things always got complicated when the strings of fate got involved. He was just glad his job involved messing with them, not keeping them straight and untangled. That was The Spider's job. Or so said what little lore he had managed to gather on the Pandua mythology.

"The fates' are smiling one you then," he said in a normal tone with a smile. "Black Cat. Nice to meet you."

Evaine staggered slightly as her attack whiffed. This guy was a lot faster than he looked...of course, he was clearly some manner of supervillain...

Realizing that her enemy was now behind her, she quickly side-stepped as she whirled around, barely getting clipped by a wave of concussive force in the process. Again, she stood her ground. By now, the civilians were making a break for the door...as was the villain! If she attacked recklessly, a bystander could be injured, and it certainly wasn't worth hurting an innocent to catch a mere thief. A murderer, or a kidnapper, possibly, but not a thief. Then again, she didn't have to attack recklessly!

Again charging at her foe, she attempted to close, and wrap her arms around him. While there was no risk of collateral, it was an incredibly short-ranged attack...

Bloodthirsty Bob was still sitting in the lounge as the Doc entered the bank, and went on doing so, the stupid blank stare still on his face all the time, as Dr G sat a while away from him, rarely glancing quickly away from the beautiful diamond he was holding to check that the hostages weren't planning to do anything weird, and he would sometimes help a pregnant worker get a seat, or escort someone to the bathroom.

Bob, however, wasn't paying much attention to this, but was rather busy wondering if he was ever going to get his money in the end and if the super-villain in question would mind sharing a bit of the swag, seeing as Bob had been there first. He was still debating over the fact when the superhero of the day crashed in through the front door and confronted the super-villain in the white lab coat, before the battle between the two finally broke out, as the Doctor hurled a chair at the colossal superhero, who however blocked it with relative ease.

Bob moved his chair a little closer, his full attention now directed to the scene of the fight; he would gasp as the hero would long-jump across the room, attempting to make a grab for the doctor, cheer when the Doctor moved out of the trajectory and blasted a shot at the hero while practically soaring through the air towards the exit, as the hero responded to this by going for another lunge.
Despite the surprising amounts of heroes and villains he had met throughout his career, it was rare to see any actually interesting one-on-one fights, as super-villains tended to opt more for minions and mastermind-work those days, none of the kind of stuff Bob would ever be able to pull off, and he was enjoying this a lot, unlike many of the hostages, who didn't apparently have an idea about what a good super-fight was all about (something that irritated him profoundly) and were making at full speed for the door.

"You are certainly was rather hands on for a first encounter, are you not?" Dr G declared with a wry, evil scientist leer. "Really, two minutes into the confrontation as you are trying to get your claws around me." He considered hitting her with a stasis beam, but that would only mean she would bowl him over. He could hit himself, but that wouldn't be of much help either. What a conundrum. He may as well just hit her with a ray blast. Ah! That just might be the solution. He raised a hand, pale blue glow suffused his glove before the pale blue ray lanced out directly at Khymera. Of course, at that level of power, it wouldn't pull off a full freeze, but it was a stream of super cooled energy. On the other hand, by the time he came to that decision, she was already closing her arms around him.

Friction had started to skate quite a awhile back, from the edge of the forest nonetheless, and was now going fats enoguh to the point he could slide along the sides of buildings and vault between them to keep moving. His point in this was to use the many surrounding buildings to get onto the top of a skyscraper that had been taken over awhile ago.~Only one here, should be fun.~ He thought with a big smile. It took him several minutes to effectively get onto the roof but once he was on her turned friction back on to a more proper level.

"Close quarters, what cowards..." He mumbled as he went to the door in and got it open. Friction started up a vibration to increase his movement speed as he shot down the stairs leading down from the door and continued down the building searching for the captives. There was a bit of tension for the super when he got down to where he needed to be about the criminals, especially their capability to take over the huge building in broad daylight. He found where one of the groups of hostages were and the thug with a big machine gun that was watching them.~Only one? Thats quite the disappointment!~ Friction critized staying quite until the guard turned around.

The man wouldn't know what hit him as the hero flew around the corner and hit him with a highspeed punch, likely leaving him unconcious for the rest of the assault. "All of you stay here until I take out the guys on the lower levels." He said quickly before hearing a thug trying to sneak behind him and bringing his fist up backwards to knock him backwards. The following roundhouse kick sent him stumbling back into the nearby wall before passing out. As Friction continued to the next set of stairs he couldn't help but wonder if it wasn't just a common crime ring and stopped halfway down. He quickly pulled out his cellphone and sent out a message to a few other heros in the area, it was more recon than anything but if the fighting turned south backup would be happily accepted.

Evaine did her best to disregard her enemy's banter. From what he'd shown her so far, he was nothing more than a criminal blowhard. He'd also made the mistake of stopping to tangle with her. As her arms closed around him, she felt a surge of confidence. She also felt cold. Very, very cold. She wasn't quite sure what he was doing, but she did know that the fight was already nearing a close. She immediately began to squeeze, performing a powerful bear hug. "C'mon now, you're gonna have to give in sooner or later, and I think it'll be best for both of us if you do it while your ribs are still intact!" By now, she was starting to lose some feeling in her chest, but it didn't matter at this point. It was no longer a battle of skill, but one of stamina.

    His cellphone rang.

Seriously? First the CB now the phone?!

Once again Lucien roused himself and prepared to deal with others. When he reached the phone he saw that it was from the "Hero Alert" system which he was connected to. "I thought I had this thing set to nights and direct threats only." He murmered and continued reading. 54th and Anderson? That's only a block from here..

It wasn't normally his bag but a fellow crime-fighter was requesting back-up and he was only a block away. The mage sighed and began to get ready for a fight. He would need his hooded costume if he was going out during the day.

"Vak! Wake-up! I need a read on all fonts of mystic energy within 5 blocks."

"Right on it, Boss." the helpful daemon began to scan the Aether as Warlock pulled on his "work clothes."
