The Colonies is a fictional world set in a time where technology has surpassed our own and where life is no longer limited to one planet. Mankind originated on the planet Dytsik and at the infant stages of space exploration, an abandoned colony was discovered on one of the planet’s moons. While the technology was easily reverse engineered, it was unfathomably beyond our own.
In less than 10 years, the space program went from infancy to godlike. After a rapid consolidation and handful of military incursions, there was one political power on Dytsik. Not soon after, mankind terra-formed and colonized PC2 and the Planetary Coalition was officially born.
It is now the year 307 AC (After Colonization) and the colonies are flourishing. After more than 350 years however, the technology still exceeds mankinds understanding of it. That along with political, economical and religious friction and inability to cope have caused major stirs in a great many areas of the Coalition.
Each Planetary Colony, or PC, has their own unique terrain, political and economical climate. All are different in terms of their over all feel towards the Coalition. Regardless of the locals, the local planetary government is generally strongly spportive of the Coalition, at least as politically as is necessary to keep their own planet free of Coalition Interrogators and Commandos.
Dytsik – Birthplace of man. It has seen countless eras and ages. It’s history was very streaky in terms of peace and war. A fourth planetary conflict, the last prior to The Unification, was short and very bloody and only ended when 2 of the super powers came to terms and crushed the other two enemies before they could possibly unite. The People’s Federation of Dytsik was born of that union and has been in power to this day.
PC2 – Dorn. As the original colony, it was the colony most akin to Dytsik in terms of the civilian population. It’s climate is similar, 4 seasons, but on Dorn, they last twice as long. Dorn is known to get more funds, attention and assistance than any other PC.
PC3 – Junction. Junction is named because it is more of a hub than the other colonies. It’s laser hub is larger than any 3 other PCs combined. It’s main conflict is between a long standing fued between religious groups and corporate.
PC4 – Ashram. While not a penal colony, when the Coalition needed to force out it’s opponents or those who they even thought would threaten their power base, they shipped them off to Ashram. They did not realize until after this how the potential for issues was now further away and harder to control. This is the colony with the strongest government presence and the most conflicts.
PC5 – Newhome. Dry and vast, the planet is dominated by large land masses and most of it’s water is found underground. There was a 3 year war between isolationists, naturalists and Bragg Corporation that was quelled by a group of Coalition Commandos. Since then, the atmosphere has been very peaceful.
PC6 – Chaison. The newest colony, is already buzzing with life. Large parts of the planet are not yet habited, and there was a group of separatists from Dytsik who hijacked a laser comm stationed and, with the help of someone inside, made of off with over 150 tanks of various sorts, costing the government billions of dollars in tank replacement and investigations.
Officially deemed a military training accident where numerous lives were lost, this was one of, if not the, largest black eye the Coalition has suffered. An undisclosed number of Coalition Commandos hijacked the laser station and jacked themselves into new tanks elsewhere in the Coalition. Due to the planning and nature of the individuals, they were never found. Officially or unofficially, no one has ever found out the reasoning behind this incident. Any article, blog or letter ever sent has been wiped from existence and any person who has ever spoke of it openly since has been either re-socialized or suffered an unfortunate accident.
Neurodrives are small CPU units stored at the base of the skull that digitalize all memories and sights we experience. These NDs are installed on all humans 2 months after being born. These NDs allow lives to be saved and stored and, for those who can afford it, to be transported into new tanks.
Commercial and military produced bodies. Depending on money or backing, one could get military grade models to business models to leisure models. Features include wireless comm systems, on board PDAs, athletic bodies, night vision and a plethora of other options. Loading into a new one is known as jacking, or getting jacked in. First time retankers are called new jacks. The term "tank" refers to the initial stages of producing tanks, when the bodies were stored in huge tanks of liquid and were refered to by a number.
This is the government for the planets that have been colonized. Although they all have their own government, each has to answer to the Coalition.
An elite Coalition unit who specialize in immediate deployment when necessary. Time, money and man hours are pumped into CCs as they can be lasered into new tanks and immediately be ready to fight battles at all levels. They are generally sent in 4-15 person groups and sent to stamp out whatever threat the Coalition deems necessary. They are augmented via tech-psychs to be able to perform and excel in combat, and in the events leading to combat. They are essentially weapons developed over years, imbued with total recall and hyper-cognizance. They can see a person shifting their foot to their back leg, looking to a person and then clearing their throat and understand that as a sign that the person signaled their accomplice and they're both about to open fire. Commando rank is: Private, Lance Corporal, Corporal, Senior Corporal, Sergeant and Gunnery Sergeant
Almost immediately following the discovery of the alien technology and mankind replicating it through reverse engineering, the Coalition took over. Most of the countries of the world immediately signed up, while other did not. The following battles are where the concept and need for the Coalition Commandos was seen.
Also called crashing or frying. This occurs when uploaded into a new tank, the mind is not used to the new body and the quirks it has. Every body is different, muscles react differently, vision can be different. More importantly than that, it takes each person different amounts of time to mentally adjust. Some people have mental breakdowns the moment they jack in, and take more time and care to adjust to the body, and the body adjust to the new person.
This is when the neurodrive is destroyed, rendering the person dead and not able to be retanked. Basically real, permanent death. Also called iced, buried or I&I
Saved digital lives can be transmitted almost instantly via laser to hard drives and routed into new tanks. This is very costly.
In addition to tanking, people have the ability to enter a complete virtual reality so long as they can afford it. These systems come in high and low end models. Many people do this to avoid having to worry about any real damage or real dangers. The virtual reality can also be used as prisons and jails, but also a means to heal people. If someone suffers an unusually violent death, their psyche is scarred, and that psyche is captured via neurodrive. Tech-psychology is needed to correct this.
They refer to themselves as Threes (from them all being from 3rd Commando Battalion) or Rogues (the name the media dubbed them in the first hours of the story of their exploits). They are mainly focused in Ashram under the business name Elite Level Protection. Around the city of Eastfall, they are also called the Blue Bastards (due to their tendency to wear blue as a form of standing out to other gangs or Corporate thugs). They do low key work for anyone willing to pay, so long as it's not something that will draw too much attention to their actual nature. While most of the 3rd Rogues stay in or around Eastfall on Ashram, not all members stayed there after a few lasered themselves elsewhere.
Former Rank (OMIT for non-Rogue characters unless applicable): (Private, Lance Corporal, Corporal, Senior Corporal, Sergeant or Gunnery Sergeant (For Senior Corporal or above, must check with me first as I am very particular about the higher ranking players)
Military Specialty(OMIT for non-Rogue characters unless applicable): (ask me if you need ideas)
Need picture of current tank
NOTE!!! I am not only looking for Rogues. There are informants, gangs, shop keepers, local police etc that can be played.
