Somebody said that they would only take damage in rain, desert and jungle. Since I'm pretty sure your ship's in taiga biome, I guess it would last a long time, if you don't mind the layer of snow the golems left.
lol, nevermind about the portal coordinates thing. I "miraculously" found my way (should've taken a left at Albuquerque), only to be faced down by five pigmen with my newly-acquired enchanted gold sword that I took off one..... while battling them and falling back, I stepped into a plume of lava and all my shit burned away. Like, fifteen seconds away from the portal, burned everything up. Balls.
edit: Updated.
Went back down to the nether, armed with the wisdom of a few battle scars. Was fortunate enough to walk up on a Ghast unawares, and butchered it. Found a few outcroppings of Glowstone and took full advantage; came home with 48 blocks and went to work on my engines. Currently I have two finished -- building them involves some pretty heavy modification to the aft bulk of the ship, mostly on the interior but outside as well. I'm considering upgrading to stone floors instead of cobble -- my intention was for Cobble to represent a more rugged, more "unpolished" metal surface and for Stone to represent your nicer areas, but I don't like the way it looks when the catwalks and the engines are the same color, and I don't think stone engines would really work for me. Exterior-wise, I opted for the Star Wars canon that says the engines are yellow at least some of the time, because the underwater-glowstone light output was really disappointing (and also, still yellow, so what was even the point of trying). My original plan to use blue wool and illuminate it from the edges also looked retarded, so this'll just have to do. I was too busy working to snap a shot from the outside at night.
Spoiler
New planned feature of the ship: DROIDS! while I was checking out Iron Blocks as a potential replacement for cobblestone on the engines, I stumbled across the 'recipe' for Iron and Snow Golems like the ones I saw in the noob fortress. I believe I'll make a few..... anybody know if I can make a snowman in the spaceship, will it just live forever? Or I guess it would melt eventually, right?

Meh, anyway I'm back and probably gonna try to fix everything up.
Alright, for some odd reason, the lava won't stop flowing even after I cut the source. One bad judgement later and now I get yet another pain in the ass to deal with. Also, the interior of the turris is badly burnt. Whoever did this, with my own stored lava no less, I'm really tempted to flay you alive right now.
There is a one in four chance, I think the guy said, that lava with a removed source will remain. xD

I saved what I could down on bottom, but I'm only human.....er, block-man...
Can someone check the logs here? Or else, can someone man the fuck up and own this shit? I'm putting a fuckton of work into my ship and I'm now terrified that someone's gonna come ruin it. I'm sure we all feel the same way about our projects.
