    To Wing

    ((Begin mod post.))

    The Story:

The year is 2057. Most people work from home, and the internet has removed the need for business headquarters and office buildings. Internet marketplaces have made stores a relic of the past. Cities are growing quickly as citizens flock to the the high-rises that are now filled with social clubs and restaurants to fill their desires for face-to-face interaction.

There are two groups who have been at odds through the entire period of development: the Embracers, who have welcomed the social changes and new technology, to the point that some never leave their homes, and the Radicals, who have started a "back to nature" movement, and taken to using more "analog" methods of protesting what they call the "digital takeover".
Both sides are regarded with suspicion by Moderates, who see them respectively as social misfits(Embracers) and terrorists(Radicals).

But the Radicals have discovered that there is another race living among them. They call themselves the Vigio, and they have powers, some of which are held in check only by their strict moral laws. Each Vigio has power over either the emotions, the mind, or the laws of motion - some even have the power to travel through shadows, though this is as great cost to their mental and physical well-being. (Limitations and details on abilities found here.)

The Vigio have spent centuries above dealing with human squabbles and disputes, but now they must choose sides.

    The Rules:

    1. The typical stuff: no god modding (Characters need flaws - even the Vigio are not all-powerful.), no killing other people's characters (without permission from the creator and a mention of this in the OOC thread), no acting out other people's characters(wait for responses), no world-modding (i.e., making large leaps in time, introducing laws that affect everyone. This applies to me, too...don't let me forget it. :nervous

    2. Everything in this RP is open to discussion. Just post in the OOC thread.

    The Character Profile Template:

    Name:
    Age:
    Sex:
    Species:
    Powers/Skills:
    Appearance:
    Position:

It had been a slow day - slow enough to allow Finn time to brood over the dreary weather. He blamed it entirely for the lack of customers for the past few days - it just wasn't the kind of weather that encouraged people to get out and spend small fortunes on books that smelled of age and mildew. They were all available online these days anyway, Finn thought, shaking his head. Damn shame.

When he heard the rain stop its infuriatingly steady tapping on the roof, Finn turned off the lights and flipped the sign on the door to "Closed" on his way out even though the shop wasn't supposed to close for another hour. He didn't want to be trudging through the wet and the cold any more than his absent customers. He hesitated for a moment before he locked the door. It would probably be raining again by the time the elevator reached the ground floor, he told himself. It couldn't hurt to stay and read for a while longer.

He left the "Closed" sign as it was and went back inside, flipped on the tiny vid screen he kept behind the desk to serve as white noise as he read. It wasn't long before a single jarring tone interrupted the weather forecast. Finn almost dropped his book, cursed and turned to glare at the screen. It was a test signal - the station seemed to have gone off the air. Finn changed the channel and was met with the same noise. It was the same on every station.

Zain sighed as he sat in his mobile suit, wondering what was going on."Oh my...Out of the loop again...I guess I should pay more attention..." He moved his arm in the suit, which inturn moved the arm of the suit outside. He was attached to an array of sensors which guided the suit based on muscle movement and brain patterns, hence the suit was very highly mobile and quite capable of doing any mission a human could do...just with thick titanium armour plating.

"Ahh...It's like a cacoon...I am afraid to see the light of day outside of the suit...it may burn me." He said jokingly, noting he was only talking to himself."Maybe I could Get out and wander town...I'm sure there's a weapons and Mobile Suit core shop nearby...I would totally be inlove with the shop keep forever If I could increase energy output in this suit."

The Reaper sat on the rooftop with his sniper rifle and laptop. "Every site I've searched confirms it, this is the right place," he whispered to himself and closed the laptop. He looked in the window of the building across the street, on the fifth floor, first window on the left. His target was there, on his computer as were most of the citizens of the international population. This target was a virtual bankrobber, a hacker who raided bank accounts by lifting a finger. However, this target was more important than most other virtual bankrobbers out there. He was using the funds he hacked to arm and train a small unit of guerilla forces in order to take out a group of Radicals..and they had hired The Reaper to take him out first.

The Reaper rarely took on contracts, but this one seemed to fall in line with the kind of work he did. He was keeping the peace, and that's what he always tried to do anyways. With his binoculars, he confirmed that the target was at home..and that he could take him out from his position. He picked up the sniper rifle and looked into the scope, adjusted slightly for the wind, and took a single shot at the back of his target's head. A loud bang resounded down the streets, and people began screaming. The target was dead, his head exploded from contact with the bullet and blood splattered on the window and floor of his apartment. The Reaper quickly grabbed his laptop and focused, defying the law of gravity on the edges of this building and the next, and the gap in between. He ran to the edge and walked on the air across the gap, then let the area return to normal as he jumped through a skylight and into a small room of the next building.

Nott paced stiffly between the two large mahogany chairs placed elegantly facing the glowing fire. The library walls were lined with books; fantasy, science, mystery, mythology, anything you could think, yet the young man was bored. It was really too bad that that pretty cleaning girl had disappeared. He could use a distraction. His boredom had forced him to receded back into his head for amusement. Bloody rage and anger shaded his vision as the veins in his hands quivered. Why should he try to resist? Visions of the same pretty cleaning girl flashed across his mind. Sitting in one of the chairs his eyes relaxed. There she was with the feather duster in hand, shaking it at the banisters when a bell began chiming from her pocket. Trying ton hide the noise with humming she glanced towards Edward, who was staring at her calmly. “You know I do not allow those disrespectful technological tools in my home”, smiling to himself Edward watched the girl follow him down another set of stairs. Still holding the subtle grin on his face he marched out of the library and out of the grand house pausing only to grab an elegant black umbrella.

Clasping the mouse excitedly in her hand as she clicked the small 'x' on the fluorescent screen before her grey eyes, Talsyn keenly finished up her work for the day. Metaphorically speaking, she had just clocked out, and now was the time for relaxation.

Shuffling towards the kitchen in a pair of well-worn, albeit comfortable slippers, she sought out the refrigerator. Opening it with bony fingers, she cast a dim glow upon the dull outlines in her apartment. The blinds were shut as always, leaving her in a state of perpetual twilight; it was not quite dark, nor was it light, so she was never too sure of the time of day - had she been in a less urbanised area, she'd obviously know when night had fallen, but living in the city, bright lights glowed through even the deepest of shadows, so there was always some form of filtered light bathing the room, be it natural or artificial.

Talsyn flipped on the kettle before continuing to shuffle about the room, collecting together some milk from the fridge, a mug, and the pot of coffee. Squeaking across the kitchen floor, she crossed over onto the carpet of the living area.

Thoughts buzzed in her head, mainly concerning the night ahead. She wondered what would befall her roleplay character, and mused upon the various situations she'd found herself in. Though, she was most excited about one thing, and one thing alone...

"I hope my friends are online."

Sadly enough, Talsyn's only real friends were those she spoke to using but the written word, sent electronically through cold, unfriendly wires to pop up warmly upon another's screen, hopefully brightening their day with distant, yet oddly close contact. She longed for closer contact, communication with people around her, but at this moment, it didn't seem likely.

Edging towards the window, she parted the blinds to peer through the glass at the city below.

It was the real twilight, instead of the permanent one inside her room. It was raining, too. She noticed movement among the shining buildings. Squinting her eyes in a quizzical manner, though, incredibly curious, her gaze widened as she saw someone - or something - leap from one roof to another before disappearing into a skylight.

"How interesting..." she whispered to herself, entranced by the odd apparition.

Finn only refrained from slamming the door behind him only because it was mostly made of glass. He had given up on reading after finding out that the radio stations were off the air as well. He couldn't read in silence, so he had just headed home.

He took a shower, and after he had dressed, he went to the computer and turned it on. If the net's down too, I swear... He wasn't sure what he would do exactly, but it wasn't going to be pretty. Nothing that would damage the computer, of course, which was a relic from the early 2010s - it was irreplaceable, and would be nearly impossible to repair, considering that the one he owned drew history buffs from across the world because it was the last intact one of its kind.

Besides, he could barely afford his Internet Service bill - he didn't want to think what his budget would look like if he needed to buy one of the new models. Even the "Lite" versions for elementary school kids were nearly out of his price range.

Fortunately, at least this seemed to be going right - the homepage of a roleplaying website sluggishly loaded in his web browser, and the instant messenger program popped up in the corner of his screen. He scanned the list of names and his face brightened when he saw a familiar name online.

He typed a quick IM and sent it.

Returning to her familiar old office chair with a mug of hot, aromatic coffee in one hand, Talsyn smiled slightly as she noticed the new box on the screen.

It was Finn, otherwise known as RoLePlAyEr_13. They were acquaintances, having met on a roleplaying website a short while ago. Though not knowing a great deal about him - though, enough to talk for hours together - she quite enjoyed his conversation. He seemed like a nice enough guy.

Switching on the small desk lamp at her side, she read his message keenly.

RoLePlAyEr_13: Are you still working? I need you to do me a favor - my computer can't handle the news sites.

Tapping away quickly on her keyboard, her response came almost instantly.

EtherealNight: Hi, Finn. I'm done working for the night. : )
EtherealNight: What's the problem? Is that old thing causing trouble again? ; D

Hitting the return key, she sent the responses and patiently awaited a reply. She was only kidding about his computer, and knew he would realise that. In fact, she would have paid a fortune to get her hands on an old piece such as his. There were many instances in which she'd begged him to see but a picture of the thing. Messing with her hair for a few moments, taming it into a loose ponytail, she sipped at her coffee while keenly eyeing the fluorescent screen, hoping for a fast reply.

Zain flipped up his comm screen as he shut off the sensors and booted up the IM program, joining up on a chat that had commenced. The screen flickered onfor a moment as the keyboard slowly moved out and stopped just in level for typing. The screen was a variation of a touch screen, but was quite finiky, he just used an optical mouse that was extended from a port on the side of the key board. A small table for the mouse flipped out and he placed the mouse down."Ok...Who's online..." He was logged in as VainityAngel, which was supposed to mean something to him...but over the years he gave up on it.

VainityAngel:Afternoon friends, any news on Radical movements in the news?

The clicking and typing as he zoomed through screens, the mobile suit partially offline, no one but the people on the other end of the chat could make contact with him.

BANG! CRASH! Was all Ian heard as he was knocked back and found himself lying on the floor, the tool he had been holding flew off in some unkown direction. His whole body felt tingly as he lifted himself off the floor to stare at the now smoking power supply he had been working on. He could only assumed that he had crossed a circuit and some (if not all) of the juice from the transistors had discharged into him. He got up, walked slowly over to the power supply as the tingling feeling started to fade. He waves the smoke away and examines the insides; to his dismay the whole thing was ruined.

Ian waked away clicking his tongue and shaking his head at the situation. Especially after all the searching he had done to acquire it! Glancing around at the clutter of his house, he found nigh infinite stack of games and started to go through it trying to find something to cure his sudden boredom.

Beat it. Beat it.Beat it. Beat it.Beat it. Beat it.Beat it. Beat it.Beat it. Beat it. Went through his mind as game after game flew over his shoulder to form a new pile somewhere else.

"Note to self by new games" he quietly said to himself remorsefully. Looking around again he eyed his computer before hope struck him. There might be some one after all who could help me... The question is if they still remember me, I haven't been on in a long time.

He swung himself into action grabbing a somewhat comfy swivel chair and letting his fingers dance across the keyboard for a moment. After going through the hassle of reactivating his account (I didn't realize I was gone for this long), he finally logged back into the IM system.

    LostTech has logged on

Ian took a deap breath and went to type but was struck with doubt that it would be proper to suddenly show up again after disappearing then showing up asking for assistance.

VainityAngel:Afternoon friends, any news on Radical movements in the news?

I don't remember a VainityAngel but I guess this is my best chance to get reintroduced.

LostTech: Not that I'm aware of...
