Arrow The Wild Dragons of the Bezcitnę Cliffs

    OOC
Dragons. Ancient creatures of might and terror. Vain and arrogant, they come to make their nests in the crags of the Bezcitnę Cliffs each year. The world is still young, yet their race is already old, reaching back generation after generation into the past.

These are not the creatures that some perceive today. These are not dragons which are easily befriended or possess great magical powers. No, these are the wild and savage beasts who have burned themselves into history and legend with the heat of their fire and the wind of their wings, caring not for the affairs of smaller, simpler creatures.

They are the offspring of Bezcitnę; they have hatched, grown, left, returned to, and died on the harsh crags that overlook endless span of the western sea. But the world is changing, and growing smaller as more races are encountered. Strangers have sailed across the sea, bringing sharpened steel and weapons. Strangers who would not bend to the power of the dragons, but rather rebel against them; hunt down and kill them.

The world is changing, yet the cliffs and crags remain their haven. Stretching many, many miles along the coast and backed by high mountains shrouded in mist. Those who have tried to cross that barrier were never heard or seen of again.

The world is changing, and many hatchlings have been lost. But those few who survived the nesting season are strong, and the fire of their ancestors burns brightly in their hearts. Though they are young and learning, they know one thing:

The strangers are the enemy. And their offenses mean war.

    The Bezcitnę Cliffs

The mountain range itself extends many, many leagues along the western coast of the Great Sea. At their highest point, the peaks pierce the clouds. Lower on the mainland side, the crags and rifts are shrouded in mist. In between there are rivers, lakes, and valleys; all hidden away in places that only dragons know how to find.

Vael lay quietly on the rock jutting out from the bank over the flowing water. It was about mid day and he enjoyed the sunlight and the quiet peace of this little stretch of the river with the pines swaying in the wind. His eyes were half shut and the tip of his long tail flicked at the water as he digested his meal from earlier. He would no doubt have to hunt again soon but for now he was content to lay in the sun and relax the muscles in his wing shoulders.

He wasn't a bad flyer but it had taken him quite awhile to hunt down that mountain goat earlier. Having scales as dark as night did have its disadvantages. I suppose I'll have to start hunting more at night and sleep more durig the day. He thought. He wasn't particularly fond of the idea but he would simply have to live with it for now.

Xelir gave a mighty yawn that was more akin to a roar, and stretched. Giving his wings a flap to stretch the muscles and awaken them, he took a look around the cave he called his home, his nest. It wasn't as warm as the familiar magma caves that filled up most of his brief life, but he had truthfully grown bored living below ground in those confined spaces. Besides, he liked it out here. A dragon could see as far as the horizon almost everyday up here on the mountain, granted it wasn't clouded or storming. The cave was just like any other cave. Dark, a little damp, and it had its share of stalactites and stalagmites. Granted his was smaller than most others who lived in the mountainside caves, but he had grown to dislike them in his time up here.

Giving another roar like yawn, he exited the cave and stepped into the warm, bright sunlight of day. He flexed his wings to help continue the wake up process. He was notoriously slow at doing that. He blinked a few times at the brightness of the sun and laid down on the small outcropping that was near the entrance of his cave. He looked down the mountainside from where he lay, thinking about what he was going to do. He had explored most of the areas where the dragons were. Maybe I could go see what Skylla or Syth are up to. He thought as he lazily watched a cloud pass by.

"Could use the flying practice, and it'd be nice chance to impress the ladies." His thoughts continued as his mind wandered to other options. "Could go out and terrorize some humans to. That's always fun. Maybe I could hunt. Catch something like a nice juicy, tender, delicious, elk or something." Standing up he looked down the mountainside. "Oh great. Now I'm hungry." He said with a low growl. Oh well, it'd be nice to test his hunting skills anyway. Maybe he'd run into one of the ladies and impress her with his hunting skills. Better yet, he'd catch something for her. But which one though? Skylla was a highly desirable mate, and it was always nice to be in her good graces, so if he could gain her favor over the other males that would be nice. Syth was a good friend of his too, though he had known her for a less amount of time, she was still fun to be around as long as you didn't call her 'albino'. He gave a laugh at the thought. He was never calling her that again that was for sure.

Meh, to much planning is no fun, I'll just wing it. Jumping off the ledge, he glided to the ground below. He was by no means a good flier, but he could glide for short distances, and he was daily working on fixing that problem. He landed on the ground below with a bit of a thud as he took a look around his immediate surroundings and immediately set off in search of prey.

Vael heard something rustleing through the underbrush not too far away. He lay still for a moment and focused on the sound and the smells the wind carried on it. Unfortunatly the wind was blowing from the opposite direction the sound was coming from. I have three options. He thought to himself. I can stay here and wait and see if whatever it is comes to bother me. I can take my leave and possibly save myself quite a bit of trouble. The last part he spoke out loud to himself, "Or I can go Sound Chasing."

After sitting on the rock for another few moments Vael glanced in the direction of the sound, glanced in the opposite direction, and then looked down at the water beneath him. Eh, could be dinner. He stretched as he got up from his laying position and then leaped to the opposite river bank. He walked slowly and without direction towards the sound of rustleing leaves. He knew full well that no prey animal would be making this much noise at this time of day unless it was running from something but he had to find some way to convince himself to do something other than eat and sleep all day though he had a feeling he might regret it.

Lakajici sat poised on a rocky outcropping that jutted out rather precariously from the cliff face over the water. The angry waves beat against the rocks far below, with enough force to shatter horn and bone. I will not do that again, she thought to herself, glancing mournfully back at the four spines between her shoulder blades; chipped, cracked, and broken.

I must learn that and become better. I must not swim too close to the cliffs. I am better already. It is not too noticeable a blemish, and my wings shall hide it mostly until they grow back. Yes, they will grow back. She arched her neck and licked the battered spikes gingerly, then gnawed a bit on their ends with her teeth to wear them a bit smoother.

She looked back up into the sky again, and her amber-green eyes followed the strings of high white clouds all the way to the horizon where the sky and sea were split. The light azure color of air contrasted with the deep indigo shade of of water. Then she closed her eyes, and reflected upon the thoughts and feelings she had so far experienced that day. It was still early, but there was so much in the world that she wished to puzzle out. Things like what made the sky and sea as blue as they were, and why rocks could not grow while trees and animals could. Odd things perhaps, but she wanted to know.

Suddenly her meditation was interrupted by the rush of air, and instinctively she dropped her long neck and angled head, flaring her wings out for balance. A brownish shape, larger than her, swooped low overhead. Its tail hit her flank, hard, and she growled.

"Curse you, Vyvoleny!" she snarled as her brother angled around, something grasped in his talons.
    --
Vyvoleny snorted in amusement as the his young female kin was stirred up, and a puff of grey smoke drifted from his nostrils, dissipating in the fickle wind. The doe kicked feebly in the grip of his black claws, and he enjoyed gloating over his catch, especially to his sister. The herds of mountain deer were the most common prey to be found, but still, he had been lucky. They were quick creatures, senses attuned to hear the breath and wingbeats of their scaled overlords.

He alighted on the cliff a few yards from where Lakajici was perched, pinning his victim to the rocky ground beneath his forepaws, panting after the effort of carrying its weight for so long.

Eventually he recovered, and looked questioningly at his sister. "Do you not want any?" he asked finally, putting the doe out of its misery with a quick twist of the head between his teeth, and then tearing into his kill ravenously.
    --
Lakajici turned her nose up at him. "I am not hungry," she lied, "And I have no need for your providence." Although her nostrils twitched at the scent of hot blood and the anticipated taste of warm meat. But surely he would make her do something for him in exchange, and whatever it was was likely to be humiliating in some way. Before he could tempt her further, she took wing and soared off her perch, flapping to gain altitude before doubling back and flying toward the mountains.

Umbraterros breathed in the scents of the earth.

Moss. Grass, field flowers, poking their heads out of the ground. Trees, occasionally; The rot of logs. Animals-Mice, rabbit, larger things. A hawk seeking a meal. Butterflies. Spiders, cobwebs, centipedes and shrub scorpions. Bubbling water. Fish in the stream. Other dragons, most a year or two younger than him, all he knew, if in some cases not well. Rocks. Pebbles. A slight breeze-It would be stronger out on the coast. All things he knew, had lived in, had explored until he knew the cliffs better than most dragons. He sighed and stretched his wings, scratching at the horns at the sides of his face. They were no longer the cumbersome studs they had been a few years ago; They were the beginnings of true dragon weapons now. As time wore on they would curve beneath his face like tusks, he knew, and as the weeks passed his fire would grow brighter. But that was the thing. Time.

It wore on and ground at him, made him want to lash out with claw and tail. He still retained the reputation he had childishly earned in his antisocial, agressively sneaky fledg- and hatchlinghood. He had worked hard to break the reputation now, to prove to all that he was a weapon, he was an owl not heard until it swooped and killed with claw and beak. He sighed and stretched his wings. He had learned to fly years ago, but would never be strong. Oh well... Still might use... The practice. He hurled himself offf the air, and let the winds carry him high. He turned the direction of the sea and glided. Perhaps he would see some of the fledglings he had smelt.

Voro awoke slightly later than usual. He stood up, let out a yawn, and walked out his cave. He saw quite a few dragons already out, some of which were flying about. He glanced at his own small pair of wings and growled to himself. "Just wait, someday I'll be up there someday." he thought to himself. He then realized that he was hungry. Hunting was always more difficult for him since he couldn't really fly yet, but after much practice, he became able to run quite fast. He smelled the air for any nearby prey, and caught a scent. He followed it, but was disappointed to find that it had already been turned into a meal by another dragon. He turned away and began his search again.

Skylla dozed happily in the afternoon sun, her tail flicking catlike in pleasure was the only way to tell she was awake. She had spread her wings fully on the ground to catch as much of the sun's warmth as possible and her mind rippled with pleasant, calming vibrations. The bright clear scent of threatening snow made her hum deep in her chest and stretch out her limbs to feel the grass brush her sensitive underbelly. Soon it would be powdered white.

She had been hunting that day and the buck had settled comfortably in her stomach, making her feel drowsy and lathargic. Even so she did not plan to remain there all day, her wings already itched with unburned energy and the warmth of the day made her muscles buzz under her scales. She was already feeling the need to be gone and wen a pair of fieldmice scampered past her muzzle she snapped at them restlessly, making them squeal and dash away. Her tail began lashing more fiercely and she dragged her claw through the ground, leaving great gashes in the earth. Finally she lifted her glittering emerald wings and beat them proudly in the air before rising to her full height.

A regal roar reverberated in her deep barrel chest and her hind-quarters coiled like springs before she launched herself into the air. She shot through the clouds like the world was turned upside down and she was falling into the sky, as though gravity had no hold on such a creature as her. She questioned why it should, how could gravity be any greater than her? She would fall in any direction she wanted.

Her great sinuous length wriggled happily in the air and her wings powering her through the sky. She glanced towards a mountain nest perched upon the peak of a mountain, enjoying the site of young Dragon's soaring around it's towering spires. They all looked contented and bright, seeming to have been unnaffected by their prolonged stay in their egg's. The mother had been fretful after her mate was killed and Skylla had offered her help. The eggs had been colder than she would have liked and so it had taken longer for them to hatch, some not hatching at all. Still it had ended well for most of them.

Skylla had cared a little for the first few hatchlings, ensuring they knew where to hunt and telling them to stay away from the wolf ridden area's but with growth they had shaken off her authority and gone their own way. As was only proper. Now some of the elder males had started nipping at her tail showing off in the sky for her. They were all unsuitable for her and she ignored them but it made her happy that there were males to court her if she felt inclined.

She circled languidly, just enjoying the pull on her wing muscles. Suddenly she coiled over and dove towards the ground, intruders had been detected, the dirty scent of them tainting the wind. Three Two-legs, males by the smell of them and young, young and reckless, young and reckless but with swords. This was more worrisome and so the blue dragon hovered, waiting and monitoring. She had seen very few of these and then only at a distance yet she knew what her parents told her. Vile, mindless creatures, teeth of metal that they held in their hands. Skylla wondered how they ate if their teeth weren't in their mouths.

Still these ones were few and Skylla's bulbous confidence assured her of her victory against them and her ego could take no more hiding or inaction. Like a drop of rain she fell from the sky, her talons stretched out towards her prey. Her first victim barely knew what was happening before Skylla's claws pierced his skin and her teeth tore at his neck. He was dead before he hit the ground. The other two spun around with cries of fear and they held their steel teeth in shivering hands. The second tried to swing at her but she snaked her head under his arms and crushed his head in her jaws, a burst of hot blood flooding her mouth. Urgh she thought to herself. They tasted awful.

While she had dealt with that the final two-legs crept up behind her and with a gurgled cry made a clumsy lunge with his tooth at her chest. It missed by miles and glanced off her scales but when it reached her thigh its tip slid under one blue scale and found her soft, thick muscle. She roared in fury and pain as she felt the two-leg's bite and twisted around, wrenching the sword from his grip. She bit and ripped out a chunk of his stomach as he watched with a kind of surprised look upon his stubby features, his entrails dangling from her blood painted jaws.

She snorted in satisfaction but her head curled immediately to inspect her wound. She was no stranger to her own blood but it was so rare for a creature other than herself to harm her that this event came as a shock. She pulled the metal tooth from her leg and proceeded to lick the cut clean. It was small but the cut ran deep and her muscle seemed stolen of its energy, shaking from adrenaline and pain. She hobbled over to a river running from the mountain snows. The frigid waters numbed the pain and her saliva killed any pestilence that dared enter her body and once she had preened and drunk a little she began to feel better and finally she felt up to flight.

Her wounded leg proved a little cumbersome but she had more than enough skill to cope. Before take off she had taken the metal tooth in her jaws as a trophy of battle which swelled her pride a bit and now she sped off to tell the others of her glorious battle.

N'zakar stared longingly up at the sky, wishing to be flying amid the cool afternoon breeze. He hadn't long awoken from a deep slumber and he could already feel the urge to hunt creeping up upon his empty stomach. Glancing back inside the darkened entrance of the cave he called home, he sighed begrudgingly for he knew hunting came with a consequence. To forage for food, he had to leave his horde of gold unguarded and open to any fool who may discover it. Nevertheless, this dragon knew he needed food and he stretched out his dark blue wings before launching himself toward the sky.

The flap of his wings cut through the silence, much like a knife slicing through a freshly baked loaf. The luscious green valley resting at the bottom of the mountain had proved a valuable resource for food in the past, and N'zakar thought it would once again. His cold eyes scanned the green landscape for almost anything that moved before finally settling on a small herd of mountian goats. Excellent he thought to himself as he began his slow and steady descent. He threw all caution to the wind as he suddenly nose dived toward the ground, his claws outstretched, ready to snatch a goat from the ground on which it stood. Moments later he was pulling up, a squirming ball of wool clutched inward toward his underbelly. Taking great delight in extending it's misery, he waited until he was back home before brutally slashing the beasts' neck.

After basking in the glory of his small kill, N'zakar sidled back into his cave for only two things. The first, to check on his golden hill of magnificence, and the second to clamber upon said hill and fall gracefully back to sleep. Hunting is such a tiring experience. And not one which proves to be exciting he thought as he closed his eyes, Perhaps another hunt of gold is in order. He let out a final sigh as he finally slipped off in to another slumber.

She really didn't want to go outside as her white scales shine so brightly in the sun that many dragons will avoid looking at her to preserve their eyesight. Her stomach Growls again and she sighs thinking to herself [I]Agh... I guess I have to go hunt. And then maybe after I'll go see Xelir. [\I]

"UGH!" She grones as she walks out of her under ground cave that still has the remains of her Father. She climbs up the mountain a bit until she gets to her ledge above her cave scaning the horizen once done she sniffs the air trying to pin point an Elk or a Deer to hunt. Flying in the direction of the Deer she flys higher and higher to try and pin point her Dinner she sees a black dragon Xelir lower down so she decides to watch him to see if he noticed her.
