Shadows Of Steel

On an Earth not too different to our own, trouble lurks on the horizon. After years of turbulent peace, stormclouds of fear and unrest have burst into a storm of violence.
Across the countries of this alternate world, chaos has erupted. Civil wars, rebellions and coups are going on, all seemingly linked by dates, times, numbers and names.
The governments of the most stable countries have responded to the appeals of their neighbours and allies, and banded together to form a task force to respond to the escalating situations, and deploy the worst hotspots.

Among these men and women and their machines are a group of hand-picked fighter pilots and their machines - Shadow Squadron.
The best among their field, the shadow squadron are at the tip of the spear - but untested in combat.
When they fly together, will their skills be enough, will their planes be enough, or will they fall apart, clashing their cultures and their personalities?
Or will they stand together, greater than the sum of their parts, to rise a an example to the world they're fighting for?

This is a figher-pilot based game, set in a near modern day world, with a few sci-fi elements to it. The game will be based loosely on the Ace Combat series of games, and similar works, such as the novels of Dale Brown, Stephen Coonts, and things such as the anime Area 88.

As such, there is a desired level of realism - planes will be real-world models, carrying a realistic level of weaponry, and capable of realistic moves. There won't be super-space-mech-planes with 500squillion missiles and laser cannons. But there might be the occasional exotic enemy super-weapon, or fantastic fortress-base that needs cracking wide open.

Characters should be reasonably realistic similarly. While the countries are able to be made up, please try and keep them sensible and relatively non-silly or stupid, as well as non-offensive. Try modelling them after a real-world country with a bit of the fictional or exotic thrown in there too.

You may choose your own aircraft, but try and keep them in the middle-to-lower end of things, rather than everyone rocketing around in F-22's and the like. There has to be something to work towards, after all, and a bit of challenge in the enemy too.

All the normal rules apply, of course. But please make note of the following:

• No Godmodding/Powergaming: Your characters may be the 'main characters' of the storyline, but they won't come through everything unscathed, and I will be ever-vigilant for Mary Sues!
• Don't be pedantic: Realism is all well and good, but I don't want to be spending more time debating the minutiae of aerial combat and aircraft technology in the OOC instead of moving the storyline along. If it needs to be discussed, it will be. That's all you need to know!
• Don't Be An Ass: Your character may be confrontational, surly, or a bit of a snidey type. But there's no reason for you to be too. Remember, we're all supposed to be having fun together! If you have a problem with someone, or what they're doing, ask me, or take it to PM.
• If I Don't Know About It, It Doesn't Exist: You may have an amazing backstory planned for your character, with a dozen old friends, a famil
  y or a wife waiting back home. But not unless you tell me about it. If you want it to happen, tell me so I can incorporate it into the storyline, and everyone can benefit. Otherwise, you might screw up something I've planned!

As a general note too: I am unable to get onto the site from work. I am also based in the UK, so I don't run to US hours, so I may not post as frequently as the rest of you, so the game might not move at the hectic, breakneck pace that a lot of people seem to like - but quality is better than quantity. Take time enjoying the story, and planning your posts. I will do the same with mine, I guarantee it.

You'll also find that I have a sense of humour, and I like to be quite approachable and laid back - I hope the rest of you can be the same!

History: (A little bit of info about how they got to where they are, and what they've done. If you want to keep it secret from others, then please PM me so I can incorporate it into ongoing story in the game. Nothing too outlandish, having victories in combat is fine, sinking a whole carrier battle group isn't).

Anything from the late 50's to the modern day is fine, but I'd like to stay away from really ultra-high-end stuff. Fighter/Tactical aircraft only, no heavy bombers or helicopters, though there may be chances to pilot other types later on. Please try not to have anything too overkill, ask if you're not sure what's okay. You may have custom paint-schemes for your planes, the only Shadow Squadron distinctive scheme is a Black tail with a dark crimson rudder).

A small, northern, landlocked country known as Yuke had begun a serious juggernaut of bloody conquests against the disgusting fiefdoms that surrounded it. It succeeded, and the peoples of all the countries that were united, was then called the Yuktobanian Empire, and the borders between all the states had faded indefinitely into one powerhouse.
As soon as Yuktobania formed, it began to modernize under a monarchy like Russia. However, a number of people were still poor and dissatisfied with the government. Commoners were starving, and the infrastructure was frighteningly weak.
The imperial monarchy was eventually massacred and overthrown by Communist Revolutionaries. This revolution helped many people, but it actually made many more people poor - but an equal level in social class. It did bring some major improvements to the culture and architecture of Yuktobania.
Yuktobania to this day has an extremely powerful military.
The Yuktobanian language is extremely similar to Russian in pronunciation and Accent.



Personality: Eva is a highly intelligent, athletic, and bright individual whose skills with flight mathematics, weapon systems and calculations are unmatched, noted as one of the best pilots of her time, some people have even made false rumors that she may infact be a ghost of razgriz, She is a strict and dedicated woman who does what is necessary to get the job done, although she does have a soft side to her friends and colleagues, Eva has a tough and rather aggressive attitude, especially towards her enemies, her anger can at times be difficult to control, leading her into arguments and tough situations but the tension can be lowered with reassurance from those that she trusts. Eva takes pride in her work and takes the opportunity of being a pilot as an honour.
Eva Enjoys reading in her free time, especially in her own company, she is very sensitive about others reading her books, mostly her personal diary that she takes with her during every flight, she also at times tries to write her own books when not on duty, it usually puts a smile on her face.
Eva has a Bright outlook on life, even after being brought up with a bad childhood within Yuktobania.


History: Born in Yuktobania, Eva was brought up under the strict and demanding rules of her father who was an Air commodore in the Yuktobanian air force, he was at times abusive and strict towards her, leading to her anger issues. He found it right to send her to a strict, girls only military academy at the age of 16 to follow in the family tradition of fighting for her country, he believed that it would show her discipline and guidance for the future.
After 4 years of brutal discipline and training and gradually forming a keen interest in Numeracy and Flight, Eva graduated from military academy at the age of 20 as a Non-commissioned officer and soon after joined the Yuktobanian air force as a wingman in training.
After spending 10 years in the Yuktobanian air force, and undergoing life-threatening training and multiple flight operations, and continuing to prove herself as a pilot, Eva was given a well-earned promotion to Major and the callsign "Siren".
Recently Eva had been transferred to a new joint Flight Squadron known as Shadow Squadron, the sudden change had frustrated her greatly after being forced to leave her previous squadron that she had grown a strong personal bond with after 10 years of teamwork.

She just hopes she can fit in, especially will her fierce attitude.

Eva's Su-33 is her flesh and blood, at times when she is flying she feels as if the plane and her body are one, she has much love for this aircraft and treats it as if it were her own child.

Miscellaneous Info: Eva has all the combat and survival training that any normal soldier would have due to completing military academy, she also has advanced training from her 10 years in service.
Eva has a secret love for motorcycles, she has a personal Ducati motorcycle which allows her to get from place A to B when not actually in an aircraft, she usually has it parked within the airbase she is stationed at.
When on duty, Eva is fitted with all the necessary equipment such as her flight suit and necessary breathing/survival equipment but she is also equipped with a combat knife and a Colt 1911 Pistol in case an act of self-defence is required.
Eva also has a unique set of tribal tattoo's and markings which run down from her upper neck to her lower chest, they help express her artistic style for flying and pilots she has killed.
