    A Fistfull of Justice.

    IC is up! http://roleplayerguild.com/showthrea...92#post6201992

The year is 1877, and in the quiet border town of Carpa Blanca, a vicious murder has taken place. In the middle of the day, a gang of bloodthirsty killers rode into the town and gunned down everyone in the street. They burned down houses and stole everything they saw, food, valuables, everything. The village priest gathered those he could into his parish and rushed out to plead with the bandits, but he too was shot down in cold blood.
Then, as suddenly as they appeared, they vanished.

The band was recognized by surviving townsfolk as Mexican bandidos from their dress, and they collectively wore red scarves around their faces. However, other than this slight piece of information, there was no evidence to identify the marauders.

Days later, the same incident was reported in another town only a short distance away. Again, no one was able to identify the men. In a span of a few weeks, the deadly outlaws left a trail of death and fire in their wake. Their path of destruction lead south of the border into Mexico, and the people living along the border of the Rio Grande feared the faceless demons would go without punishment. The Texas state government was helpless to do anything, without the ability to send troops into Mexico.

However, the Texas Rangers and Federal Marshals of the Rio Grande area devised a cunning plan. They increased the already vast bounty on the bandidos' heads and sent out an invitation to every gun on the border. An invitation to a hunting party.

Your characters will men and women who take up the invitation. You could be anybody, vengeful townsfolk or farmers, cold-blooded bounty hunters, drunks with nothing better to do, or wanderers simply looking for adventure. You are to meet in the city of El Paso, on the border of Texas by the Rio Grande river, to become acquainted with the rules of the hunt. But be wary; though it would be foolish to try and take these bandidos on one's own, there are many who want the reward money for themselves, and will do anything to get it.

Only those that stick together despite their differences and disagreements will make it far enough into the arid landscape of Mexico to capture the bandidos and claim the reward.

Your characters may come from any background, any ethnicity (within reason, and with a good enough reason for being in Texas in this time period), and any moral character. Every man or woman will be required to have a horse and a firearm, and be able to use both to some degree.

    This seems great I think.
I hope the adventure goes through several towns and maybe a few other confrontations. Maybe we even meet the bandits without taking them down the first time. Uhh excited!

Anyone mind if my character is an old one who was in the Civil War? He'll be an old officer, but he was for the South, so he'll be, eh, racist, to people other than whites. I'll begin work on 'im soon.

    Name: Michael Hunt
    Age: 27
    Physical Appearance:
Clothing: Black denim jeans (Yes they did exist), with a blue buttoned shirt under a sheepskin vest. He wears the hat seen in the picture. Old, brown boots with Mexican style spurs.
Background: Born in Ohio, Michael traveled west seeking adventure and to live his life to the fullest, away from the hum-drum of the civilized east. He wandered for quite a while, going from town to town and getting mixed up in whatever trouble he could find. Eventually though, he found a stable job guarding stagecoaches. In the process, he became proficient with the double-barreled shotgun. When he heard about the bounty, he was already in El Paso. He had just come in from a stagecoach trip, and heard about it in one of the many saloons dotting the city. Immediately, he set out to find all he could about this so-called "Hunting Party".
Equipment: Canteen, maps of the border area and Southern Texas, about 30 dollars.
    Weapons:

    10 gauge double barreled shotgun.

Smith and Wesson Schofield .45 caliber. Top Break revolver. ^This one.

^This one is beautiful, but way to rich for Michael's blood.
Other: Michael is much better with his 10 gauge than with the Schofield; it really is a last ditch side arm to him.

I think that sounds like an amazing character. Don't worry, nobody is going to think your a racist. However, your character will be an older guy if he was in the Civil War, so don't expect him to be leaping from horses and then getting up and running around. He could be the grizzled veteran of the group. The guy that people hate and respect at the same time. You could give him some sort of interesting physical flaw too. Like, his hands are incredibly quick to the draw, but he also has immensely painful and paralyzing bouts of arthritis.

    Just a thought.

Thanks, Reginox, I was kinda concerned about him being a racist, but thanks for liking my idea. Also, I was thinking of making around 40-50 years old, being young when the Civil War first started, and he'll still have his flaws of old age, but he'll be a veteran, who knows much about war and fighting.

Be Careful about using that word "old". Some of us probably fall within your definition. I'm going to use Bill Carson; the character I put in hiders in the Int check. I'll redo him so he is no longer the Sheriff of Tularosa, NM. Since he was born in '43, he'll be 34 for this RP.

In order to use a war time history in your character. To have served as a soldier in the Civil War, here's the math:

    1861-1865: Civil War.
The Union Army would conscript men and boys aged 17+. A few may have lied about their age and got in at 16; 15 is stretching it.

The Confederacy took 12 year old boys to fight; they didn't care towards the end of the war. They were desperate.

Assuming your character was a 12 year old Confederate conscript in 1865, He'd be 24 years old in 1877.

Assuming your character was a 17 year old Union conscript in 1865, he'd be 29 years old in 1877.

Assuming your character was a 18 year old conscript in 1861, he'd be 34 in 1877.

Assuming your character was a 22 year old graduate of the Military Academy at West Point in 1860, fighting for either side, he'd be a 39 year old in 1877.

Obviously, you can go higher than these minimums.

Thanks for the tips, Gunther, I couldn't have done all that math by myself, I'll change it so he'll be 25 when the war started, not exactly "young" but not in his after years yet, but afterwards, he'll be 44, a nice and old age, eh?

I expect we'll have 'trouble' with the natives and their 'army' as well?

    Name: Jacob van der Biels
Nickname: Vanderbiels (Pronounced venderbeels) Texan ghost rider(Nickname given to him by law enforcement but nobody is aware that he is him.)
    Age: 32
    Physical Appearance:

    Clothing: Cowboy boots(brown), spores(Iron), jeans(Blue), full chaps(Dusted brown), ornamented shirt(White), leather vest(Dark brown), heavy jacket(Dusted beige).

Background: Jacob was born roughly 32 years ago to two Dutch immigrants in America. He spent his youth in his fathers wheel shop where he had to do long, hard and arduous work for no pay other than food and shelter. He had a few friends but little free time. It may not come as a surprise that he fled his paternal home as soon as he turned sixteen. A herd of cattle passed by their tiny village who just happened to need a wheel repaired. Jacob, infatuated by the stories one of the cowboys, ran off the very same night to join the trail.

Since then he spent the better part of his life chasing cattle from one side of the continent to the other, he learned to live the hard life without complaining and got into plenty of trouble along the way. Which, ignoring the odd injury here and there, did nothing but sharpen he senses. Two years ago he was chased off by his employer who accused him of stealing cows before they were branded. Which in fact was true, over ten years of chasing cattle had taught venderbeels one thing; he was going to need money to not have to do that for the rest of his life. He already didn't like his employer and a nice chit chat with some Mexicans in a Texan bar sealed the deal.

Lucky for Jacob the authorities didn't get involved and he survived the chase. He's spent the last two years wandering the west, setting up smuggling rings or riding groups to make money in less than legal ways. Fuck ups by his underlings usually led to them being shut down but as of yet Jacob's 6th sense has kept him safe. Every time he got a bad feeling about a venture he was on his right knee started acting up, an old injury. Trusting his knee's guidance he managed to ditch every group or activity before the marshals showed up. They are aware of him though only as a driving force behind several criminal activities throughout Texas.

Jacob is a man of a strict moral code. Even throughout his criminal career he has never shot a man who didn't reach. He has never hit a woman or abducted anyone to get out of a fight. He prefers to avoid slaughter at all costs and his eye is on the payroll at all times.

Currently residing in El Paso because he felt like it.

Equipment: Canteens, spyglass, rations, beer, ammunition, cigarettes, rope and a knife. Has up to 2.500 Dollar hidden around Texas, fifty on his person.

    Weapons:
    - Two cattleman's. Single wield but damn handy when one runs empty. One is in his holster on his right thigh and the other rests on his left breast under a vest and jacket.
    - a 10 gauge shot gun which rests in a holster attached to his saddle.

Other: He rides a frysian horse, a family of horses from the northern Netherlands, they are generally bigger than average and sand on strong hooves, usually adorned by a crown of long hair. His is black and called Floris.

    Name: Lorelai MC'Adder “Lorry”
    Age: 27
    Physical Appearance:
169 cm tall. Rather slim and with a medium bone structure. Long brown hair that goes down to her shoulders when loose.
Clothing: Wearing a white shirts with a Vice-Sheriff badge, and brown pants. Brown cowboy boots and a leather belt with a holster for her gun. On her head is a olive cowboy hat.

Background: Lorelai (also called “Lorry”) grew up with her grandparents on a farm. Hunting snakes and wildcats was an everyday thing. When they both died she sold the farm and moved to Hammerdam. Many years later she was already known to be a skilled hunter when her life changed again. Something as strange as becoming a female Deputy Sheriff was something the old Sheriff Gunter Black offered her. Just her and 3 others were the personal support for the beloved Sheriff who believed in equal rights for both gender. And as almost 5 years past by he never regretted appointing her, because she grew even better with a six-shooter than she had been with a rifle. The almost 5 years with nothing but small time crime, ended when the bandits invaded the town. They were relentless and not just a group of bullies, but full fledged killers and gunslingers. When it was all over Lorry had not killed a single of them, but they had managed to wipe out most of her fellow Deputy Sheriffs and the Sheriff himself. With the town in ruins and only one Deputy Sheriff apart from herself, she rode out to stop the bandits before they could repeat the carnage, while the other guy stayed behind to become the new Sheriff and restore order in town. Besides having a working sheriff in Hammerdam was the only way for Lorry's Deputy-badge to still apply outside in the world.
News spread to her ear about the bounty, and she knew she through that could find other people to help her cause.

Equipment: An old-fashion medkit. A Deputy Sheriff badge that around most parts still gives a little respect. A rather large bag of coins to help her on her way. Extra ammunition. And supplies for several days.

Weapons: Peacemaker six-shooter and a Winchester rifle.

Do you mean the Mexican Army? Or like, the Apaches?

I wasn't really planning on getting mixed up with the Mexican Army, its a pretty cool idea though. And who knows when the sudden Indian attack will happen?

    Hmmm..... The Mexican Army.....
