'tis. That's pretty much what sets it apart from stuff like naruto and bleach, I think. Still, they're struggling with the exact same issue a lot. Fairy Tail should have ended a long time ago. Always leaves a bitter after-taste if the characters are mostly one-trick ponies (which by itself is fine) and then they keep bringing out new issues that are essentially the same.

Yet I can't help but follow it :P

I would of loved the author if he ended it with Zeref and the dragon, but instead we some really odd retrieval out of it. The only real thing that does annoy me is the nakama punch that seems to literally happen on every last arc villain lol. It's as bad as Naruto and his friendship no jutsu.

Well the Oracion Seis arc seemed a good ending point to me, actually. I mean, random Black Dragon says hi and destroys everyone from out of fucking nowhere isn't something I'd be satisfied with :P I'm totally cool with evil winning, but some more build up than "Hey I exist" woulda been appropriate for an ending like that.

And yeah... Anime... Final bosses are predictable, but hey. Gotta love the less important fights.

True the fights involving side characters are always some of the best. What's your favorite fight from the series?

I love all of Shikamaru's fights.

Difficult question. I really like Gray's fights, although he does endure main character level amounts of abuse-requirements a lot, fights against Mest&Wendy, Fukuro and Bickslow I loved. Even his final bosses like Racer and Ultear are a lot more interesting than those of others.

As for side-side characters... I'ma disagree. They really suffer this abuse-requirement issue. I mean fucking Elfman. First Sol, then Rustyrose and now Bacchus. First he has to be beaten to a pulp and then luck his way out. On the other hand when he loses, it takes like five seconds. He's prolly the most literal in that aspect, but it's pretty much the concept of every fight for every side-character.

@Tyler, I really can't talk about Naruto much, as I don't follow it :P I tried but... You know. But if he's got an awesome fight, you got the issue or a clip of it? Only awesome thing I know from Naruto is that old toad dude fighting against 'pain' or something? I mean it takes way too fucking long, but there's lot's of good ideas in that fight. EDIT: this one.

I've always been a big fan of Erza's even though she's technically a main character type. Her fights usually don't end that predictably (Sides the tree guy in the last arc) plus it's cool seeing all the different armors and shit she can use.

I enjoy most of the b team of fairty tail as well like Gajeel or luxus. I'd love to see Gildartz in an actual all out fight, his end way too quickly =\. I do get what your saying though about the abuse requirement, but I think the worst offender is Natsu. Never seen a main character take so much dmg yet never actually lose a fight.

As for Naruto my favorite fight is either Pain vs Naruto or Sasuke vs Dede. Recently everything has just kinda become spamming super powered abilities.

Abuse requirement is... Yeah, exactly like Natsu. Alternatively, I call it the 'huge HP-syndrome." ;p

Taking a lot of punches is one thing, but then all of a sudden they beat the opponent with just one attack. That's something that makes no sense to me at all. It's something that happens in a ton of shounen. Or for some reason learning a life lesson or having a flashback counts as a power-up. Those are things many characters suffer from. I gave you Elfman's example, but almost everyone fits this profile. Mirajane regains power after Elfman is beat up. Gajeel fights for Levi. etc.

I love Erza's power, but usually she has to work too little to see through abilities and then turns the tide as if there never was a chance of her losing. She is really cool to see though, but in terms of strategy and working around her own limitations... Not so much :P
