Avatar: Legend of Korra - Calm before the storm. OOC

Avatar: Legend of Korra - Calm before the storm.

Sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender.

    RECRUITING CLOSED

It's been several years since the new avatar, a young water tribe girl named Korra was discovered. Her skills in the bending arts are so far unmatched and it won't be long before she completes her firebending training. This young girl, while brash and impulsive seems to be the best hope for the balance of the world.

And balance it needs. Whispers of a sinister group gathering strength in Republic city has garnered the attention of the great leaders of the four nations. Their motives aren't clear, but one thing is certain: They do not like the citizens of the United Republic of Nations and will stop at nothing to challenge them.

The projector clicks off and the room illuminates itself as the gas lanterns turn back on. Tenzin, Master Airbender and council seat of Republic City puts down the baton he was using as a pointing device and folds his hands. The slides presented did little to ease everyone's minds; Violence and riots in the outlying towns of the United Republic of Nations, families beaten and mugged.

"I will not speak as if this were easy, for I know all too well it isn't." He says, his terse words underlining the seriousness of the atmosphere. "This group is threatened the bending community of Republic City with subterfuge and sedition. The more active elements have already attacked outlying towns under the guise of disgruntled fire nation colonials, burning buildings and harming people."

Tenzin takes a seat next to the projector and folds his hands in his robes. "You have been called here because you are unique. Firebenders, Earth and metalbenders, Waterbenders. Even those of you who are non-benders have skills that we desire. We have gathered you all for one purpose: To find the root, the poison of these radicals and find out what they are up to."

Tenzin furrows his brow. "And know this: Your impact here will affect the world for decades to come. Choose your actions wisely for you are laying the groundwork for the Avatar."

    "Good luck."

    Game:
Avatar: Legend of Korra - Calm before the storm. A prequel of sorts to the TV show Avatar: Legend of Korra. This RP will take place 2 years before Korra makes her debut in Republic City.

    Background information:

First two episodes of the show:

For those of you who don't know about the Avatar series and it's lore, I'll explain it in a few sentences:

Picture a world where select people have the ability to telekinetically move, alter, morph and in some cases create the elemental forms. Earth, Air, Fire and Water. These people are known as Benders. The world is, predictably built on the bending arts. Earthbenders are stoic, determined and stubborn and their architecture is strong and in some cases enormous. (The city of Ba Sing Ce for instance.) Firebenders are driven individuals who have a passion unlike any other. Their society is rich with culture and is a little more rigid than others. Waterbenders are a kind of go with the flow sort of people and aren't afraid to embrace change. Airbenders, before their near extinction in the previous show were nomads and represented freedom.

Check out the Wiki for more info on the world.

The main setting for this RP is Republic City and the outlying towns, although if necessary will also include the other nations. Your character, as well as a few others were sent by the bending nations or recruited in republic city to act as a Vigilante cell. An unofficial watchdog of the city to find the radicals, discover their motives and if necessary, take action.

    Main NPCs (Unplayable, Story drivers)

Tenzin: Tenzin, the youngest son of Avatar Aang and Katara, is an airbending master who represents the Air Nomads on the United Republic Council. A calm and serious man, he carries a great responsibility on his shoulders to protect not only the next Avatar, but also Republic City. He resides on Air Temple Island, a secluded sanctuary constructed by his father, with his pregnant wife, Pema, and his three children, Jinora, Ikki and Meelo.

Lin Bei fong: Chief Lin Beifong is the Chief of Police in Republic City and the daughter of Toph Beifong. She views the new Avatar as the biggest threat the city has faced in recent times, as Korra's reckless ways are constantly leaving Lin Beifong's streets in ruin. Even though her mother taught Korra's previous incarnation how to earthbend, Lin has no special affection for the new Avatar, and is determined to force her out of the city.

    Character choices:

Completely open with exceptions being thus: No current NPCs or in-story characters and airbending. It is unclear as to the current number of airbenders apart from Tenzin and his children, and as so not to break canon into little tiny pieces airbending is out until we have more information.

    Gameplay:

Narrative. There are no fixed attacks, no stats and no fixed combat. The entire RP is set to be as fluid and narrative as possible.

    Character sheet template:

    Spoiler

    Rules:

    1: no god-modding.
    2: Have fun!

I'll look at this, I think I'd make a Chi Blocker like Ty Lee.

    Or maybe a blood bender...

I have a good one cranking out almost done with my history and she'll be posted. I haven't done a girl in a while... this could be fun. ^w^

---------- Post added at 01:20 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 AM ----------

    Here's my bio

    Player: 101_Scout1

    Name:
    Siku Iluq

    Sex:
    Female

    Age:
    17

    Bending (If any): Water

    Bending subspecialty (If any): Healing

    Non-bending combat skills: None

Other skillsets: Siku is an amazing dancer, which makes sense, as her bending style is very fluid and she views them as two very similar skills. She’s also very seductive, despite her strict moral values. When Siku wants something, she sets out to get it, and has a way with convincing men into whatever it is she wants.

Apperance: Though the Southern tribes are often of a darker skin tone, Siku takes nearly all of her appearance from her mother. Though those in her tribe did not know what Kesuk looked like when she was younger, so Siku is a spitting image of her mother.

Personality: Siku is a very morally-bound girl, raised in a conservative family that brings waterbending into their life with everything they do, though they do not rely solely on it. She is a small-town girl, raised in the South Pole, and chooses not to use her abilities for fighting. Her father was a sort-of protector in their town, and he passed his own strengths to her, even if his leg was injured before he had an opportunity to enlist as a soldier. He was an excellent bender as far as fighting went, even to the standards of non-handicapped benders, molding his style around his injury. Siku is not quite the same fighter he was, as she preferred to use her abilities as a healer, much like her mother. She always tries to find a peaceful conflict to a conflict, but also likes to get her share of benefits from them. The young bender is very amiable and friendly, even bubbly at times, and it earns her friends more often than not.

Background: Siku was born in a Southern water tribe, hidden in very deep seclusion with little contact with the outside world. Their culture suffered from terrible blizzards and winds, so they’ve devised their own protection in a semi-circle dome that blocks the wind. Every native-born citizen of the town is a bender, or married to one (usually the former), which is a rather good stroke of luck. They never received many outsiders, so the heritage of bending was never lost to them as the generations came. Each home is created by the bender of a family and possibly a few friends. They are often lavish, but not overly-so, and are only as impressive as those that create them, their appearance and conditions of creation (such as who helped build it and how much they each did) can give a family a certain status among the community; the more beautiful the home, the more respected they are as benders.

Siku happened to be born of one of the town’s most skilled healers, who was actually one of the few outsiders to ever happen across the settlement. She was very weak when Siku’s father found her, nearly unconscious, just outside of the town. Somehow, she was nursed back to health, and invited to stay with Nilak Iluq (Siku’s father), who had a rather off-seeming walk due to a condition in his knee from an injury sustained in his younger years. The two, as Kesuk (Siku’s mother) recovered, fell in love, and were the talk of the tribe. Nilak learned she was from the Northern tribes and she fascinated him as she brought new knowledge to their little settlement for healing and bending techniques. The two were married within months and had their first and only child, a daughter they named Siku, precisely nine months after their wedding.

Siku, from the time she could, with even a smidgen of coordination, move her limbs, was clearly taking after both of her parents in her ability as a bender. Her father was a loving man to her, but he was also very caring to the rest of the tribe, acting as a sort of patriarch to them all. On the other hand, her mother was almost always nearby, but would try her best to let Siku learn for herself what she desired and to push her abilities for her own sake, not because she was influenced by either Nilak or Kesuk. Her choice was a rather bizarre one, a powerful thirst for knowledge taking her over as she would always ask her father to show her something new to practice, while at the same time begging her mother for more as well. She never wanted to stop learning, but another part of her hungered for adventure over her sheltered life.

Her opportunity to leave her tribe came in a very bittersweet fashion. A cold winter struck, and her father had fallen deathly ill. Even with Kesuk and Siku doing all which they could to save her father, there was little they could do to quell the icy cold that had taken him over. He passed in his sleep when Siku was fifteen and he was forty-five. Two years later, the wind had become too much, the weather, which had only become more and more hazardous with time, began to break down and damage the large half-dome of ice which protected the town. The settlement had begun to shrink greatly as it aged, some not having children and others leaving (especially the younger generation) to pursue a life of adventure or find something new (all assuming their home would be intact if they so wished to return).

Kesuk was helping patch the large dome when somebody, another bender much farther down the wall, had stubbed his foot on something. He yelled out in pain, a harmless reaction to most while at the same time, the final straw for the fragile blockade the town had created. It jarred the atmosphere just enough… an impossibly miniscule vibration caused a large crack to spread, shattering a large chunk away from the rest. Kesuk watched in horror as the section fell, she heard others calling out that they were fine as the rubble was quickly removed by the surprised benders beneath and around. However, that was not the end as the other walls all lost support and gave way, crashing inward in a dangerous cascade of sharp icicles and heavy blocks of frozen water. Kesuk was trying her best to bend herself to safety, but she was not fast enough, nor had the ability to style her skill for such a situation. Siku had heard the shout, and watched it crumble, but was helpless to stop it right away, as she was on the other end of the settlement. The moment the walls began to crash, she swept herself through the snow, sliding through town, only to find she was too late. She was the first one to be on-scene, looking only for her mother. However, despite her efforts, she was the last to leave, late at night, when a group of citizens pulled her away from her unsuccessful venture, telling her that they would continue looking under the snow tomorrow. They never even found all the bodies, but nobody assured Siku her mother was alright, they didn’t want to lead her on (nor did they believe there was any way for her to have lived something so devastating).

It had only been days, maybe a week or two, since Siku’s seventeenth birthday, when she lost her mother. So, after the funeral, Siku left home, the others in her settlement encouraging her taking a trip out into the world rather than shut herself in. She had no idea where she was going or what she was doing, but she kept a waterskin strapped to her ankle and a bag of clothes for all sorts of weather, from rain to drought, icy cold to burning heat.

    Contacts and affiliations:
None, but if you ever wanna move the plot to her small hometown, where the people are few and very local (everybody knows everybody else) then she’ll be an asset.

Just keep in mind that barring any special traits, say a natural affinity to bloodbending, that bloodbending itself can only be used during a full moon. If you're going to create a bender with bloodbending as his/her prime skill, mark that he/she has an affinity for it.

Good writeups so far. Looking forward to the coming sheets!

Yes, sorry. I'm account sharing with someone whom I guess you can consider my editor. I had to work today so he's watching and letting me know who's submitted.

You're in. Neat idea for the bubble dome.

((I'm on a mobile keyboard right now, so I'll hold off making the sheet right now. But if anyone wanted my character tied to theirs that'd be great. I'm fine if no one does, though. PM me or email me. Also, I really like the water bender..))

Thanks! I was trying to make her tribe unique, because it seems all of the southern tribes had something to make them different. ^w^

I have my ACT tomorrow, but I'll be home sometime, what timezones are you guys and what time are you usually on? :3
