    KaneBates vs RequiemX HP Duel

The students gathered around the quidditch pitch - apparently two 5th years were about to start dueling! It was a cold, wet day. So nobody was traning on the pitch and students now would openly walk there and train on brooms, or just mess about.

Kane takes out this hawthorn wood wand, then bowes to RequiemX. He wipes some rain from his brow then shouts "Flipendo" and with a flick of his wrist a light blue jet flys over the pitch at about chest height.

(Flipendo is also know as the Knockback Jinx, pushes or flips something backwards)

Requiem Xavier... A strange name for a strange young man...

The tall, lanky, pasty-skinned 5th year looked across towards Kane with both respect and caution. The result of the dual would bank as much on an individuals honor as it did on their skill with their wands and spells. As a mark of respect, Requiem bowed, though he did not take his eyes from his opponent. From the moment that both he and Kane rose from their bows, the dual had started; and it was Kane who had put in the first offensive.

He heard Kane shout out "Flipendo" and immediately countered. "Protego!" he called out, manifesting a barrier to protect himself from the coming jinx. The jet of blue light connected with Requiem's barrier and bounced off, speeding back towards Kane.

Without time to react Kane trys to make some feeble attempt of moving out of the way - but to no avail. The blue light hits him square in the chest sending him into the air, then landing straight on his face. Kane then, while still lying on the floor, casts the Stupefy charm - sending a fast red light across the floor.

Req's shielding spell dissipated as soon as the knock-back jinx had made contact, the faded blue light receding away gradually. He considered sending out another spell, to catch Kane in the wake of his spell rebounding. But his sense of honor, and the fact that his Protego had essentially done just that, kept him from doing so; all for the better when he knew that Kane was about to take the impact of his own jinx.

Instead, Requiem took off at a light sprint across the Quidditch pitch towards where Kane was; battling across the pitch with the potential for hitting fliers in the crossfire wasn’t a risk worth taking under recreational circumstances, so it would be for the better if they had less people between them. As he ran, he spotted a broom not far off of his path of travel. It was an old Comet model, one owned by the school and at that, one that had probably seen better days.

“Accio broomstick!” he shouted as he ran. The broomstick lifted off the ground, and flew towards him. With a well-placed jump, Requiem mounted the broomstick, avoiding the Stupefy spell that Kane had sent along the ground by a relatively narrow gap. A second after mounting, he sped the broom forward. Half way across the pitch, he had reached a speed at which the broom would maintain enough speed to carry it across the pitch without him pushing it faster. At that point, he gave a very slight angle downward, and dismounted.

“Wingardium Leviosa,” he said, casting a light levitation spell on himself to break his fall against the ground. He landed comfortably, if not softly, and watched the broomstick fly in Kane’s direction. He didn’t intend for it to hit, but for it to serve as a distraction. Crouched on the ground after his fall, he gave a motion with a wand, and shouted, “Stupefy!” returning the favor, as the saying went, to his opponent.
