    Roman Empire: 2000 OOC

A Brief History of the World

Ave! I am Decius Brutus Jovian, instructor of history for the Roman Academy. Listen closely, for this is how the eternal Empire was saved by one man.

Titus Ulpius Afer was a military man; one of Marcian's generals and a brilliant mind. When Marcian died in 447 AD—some say that Titus killed him, but such allegations are ridiculous—, he rose to power over his rivals, and quickly ensured that the borders of the Empire were secured from invaders. When the Vandals attacked Rome in 455 AD, he slaughtered every last one of them. From there, he began to rebuild our great Empire from the ashes, and soon nearly all of Europa was under our control. The barbaric Germans and greedy Britons refused our rule, but our empire was stronger without them than with them. As our armies marched eastward, the year 485 AD passed. The Emperor was growing old, but he still marched into Baelica (the Baltics) and Slaevia (Slavic nations). Eventually, the Kieva (Kievan Rus) in Russia fell to our armies, and they retreated into their holes in norther Asia. Titus turned his sights on Africa, where, in 501 AD, he died in battle at the incredible age of 96. He was succeeded by his son, who continued his conquest of Africa inward, where the natives were subjugated. By 570 AD, a great inventor by the name of Thelonius created several inventions that allowed for a greater length of travel, including the caravia (a type of ship similar to the caravel). As the African conquest progressed, a flourish of the arts and sciences began and lasted for five hundred years. By this time, much of the Middle East had also fallen under our control. A man named Julius Colonius sailed several of these West in an attempt to invade India, but instead he found what he called “Terra Nova” blocking his path. He returned to Rome with new crops, including the potato and the tomato. These are now staples of our diet. An Iberian, named Koric Rethas, asked the emperor for a force of legionnaires to conquer several islands that were discovered by Colonius. He landed in Caribia, and quickly set up new governments there. As the conquests progressed, Rethas was sent to the mainland to combat the growing Aztec Empire. Legionnaires marched through forests, dominating the Aztec Jaguar Warriors and quickly besieging and destroying their capitol. Their barbaric ways were known to our armies, and their people were put under our direct rule. Thus passed the year 1500. As industry began rising in Europa, warfare was becoming innovated. The year 1690 passed and the Great War between the New Persian Empire and our Roman Empire began. Eventually, much of the world was engulfed in the conflict. Eventually, the Romans won and we received holdings in India that the Persians had previously conquered. The next three hundred years were uneventful; a coalition of Colonians were formed in North Colonia (America), but they were swept west by our newly reformed legions, now carrying the most modern firearms of the 1790's: the repeating rifle. Pushed back to the Mississippi River, as they called it, a stalemate ensued that still lasts. They managed to take back much of Aztlán (Mexico), as well as parts of Central and South Colonia. An alliance of Asian powers was formed as well, but it waits like a snake for its moment to strike. The Northerners (Canadians) isolate themselves in mountain cities, letting none pass into them. The Portuguese requested autonomy, and it was granted. The British conquered some paltry islands and states. A Central Asian country was formed, though internal struggles rip through it.

So are the events now, in 1990 AD, where Emperor Augustus Claudius rules from the thrones of Constantinople and Rome.

It would be most interesting if you were high-ranking officials in either an army or a country. Being president/dictator/other would be excellent.

The rules are pretty standard, any questions and you can just ask me.

    Character Sheet:
Name: Ignis Julius Scipio (Nickname: In exanime Umbra)
    Age: 31
    Gender: Male
Rank(Civilian/military/leader): Primus Pilus(basically the toughest guy in the legion)
Equipment: FN P90, M200 intervention, metal storm pistol(fires 9mm rounds), gladius, semtex grenades, flashbang, frag (all weapons have a chance to jam or explode, they are experimental)
Faction: VII Legion, Rome, Mars Century(experimental weapons specialists)
    Appearance(pics would be great):http://alexiuss.deviantart.com/art/C...41880771&qo=28

    http://browse.deviantart.com/?q=Roma...et=48#/d46sgwr

Personality: Gruff, loud, forceful, and a little 'mad'. All of these and more have been used to describe this young leader of Mars Century. Always laughing in battle, he is feared by everyone but the veterns(those that last a month). He does try to keep his men alive.
Bio: Ignis Julius Scipio, a man who turned Mars Century into the most feared and elite fighting force Rome has ever seen. The man who would rather lead his century than lead the First Cohort as he should. So little is known about this great man, the first piece of information on him was when he first joined the legion, at age 15.

    Edit: Some bio is done.

    Name: Marcus Brutus Victor
    Age: 41
    Gender: Male
Rank(Civilian/military/leader): Combatant Dux of I Aerium Legion
Equipment: Beretta ARX 160 assault rifle, Beretta 92 pistol, Gladdus infantry combat sword, fragmenttation grenades, wireless communication system.
Faction: I Aerium Legion, Special Paratrooper Legion.
Appearance(pics would be great): This is Marcus in his ceremonial uniform (I guess that they fancy-suits didn't change that much?)
Personality: Marcus is a friendly and kind man, enjoying a good joke and good company amongst friends and his soldiers. He is loyal to Rome and her people, but he has some sort of respect to the ever-been arch enemy of Rome, the Britons and Germans. On many occations, he has refused to execute POW's from their lands, but has never told why, only that it wouldn't be the honorable thing to do. As for his other enemies, either if they are from outside of Rome or Romans themselves, he keeps an close eye on them, being careful as he is a powerful man.
Bio:Marcus was born in a village on the coast of Italy, growing up in what was basically a fishing community. His family always told him to be loyal to the emperor, but his loyalty for the Empire itself was more important. He never really understood that, but he took it into mind and did his best to do what he thought was for the best for the Empire. Growing up as a competent fisher and sailor, everyone hoped that he could make a career in the Roman Navy; however that wasn’t going to happen. Growing tired of the sea and fish, he decided to move to Rome to study in one of the many great academies. There he got to know a man the same age as him, who would later become his best friend and most trusted ally, Julius Protani Lupe.
After graduating from the Roman Academy of Military Theory, he and his friend joined one of the newest military branches in the Roman Army, something people called paratroopers. Compared to all the rest of the military doctrines that had existed for over 2000 years, this branch had only been in service for merely 130 years (since we are almost 100 years ahead in technology). When asked by the Centurion who had recruited Marcus and his friend, Marcus replied: “because I want to try something new, something controversial yet promising. And besides, who wouldn’t piss in their pants of their enemies came from the sky?”
In service, both he and his friend showed extraordinary courage and discipline, as well as leadership even though they were high ranking officers. In multiple situations where they had been outnumbered and surrounded, the actions taken by Marcus and Julius had saved their friends’ lives and the operations. This caught the eye of their superiors, and they soon both rose higher and higher in the ranks.
After almost 20 years in service in the constant wars against some hostile country, Marcus had gained a lot of power and wealth, and support from many citizens all over the Empire. But he never thought of using them against Rome itself, remembering what his parents told him as a child; "The Empire is more important than the Emperor himself..."

Shall add the rest later, but here's the basic idea of my character. High-ranking officer (sort of a general) of the Elite Roman Paratroopers.
*EDIT* Added bio. Will add the rest tonight.

In theory, could me and me loyal soldiers would pull thought a coup after thinking the Emperor is insane, and thus doing what Julius Caesar did when he became Dictator of Rome?

:3 I have plans, my friends....
