Demons are evil. That's the main thing you've got to remember. No matter how they look or what they say, their nothing more then parasites on humanity that seem to appear out of nowhere. Sure their ways differ, some less violent then others, some even appearing to have morality and even humanity. But they all do terrible things, leaving nothing but pain and hurt in their path

You ever watch the news and wonder how the hell a human could do what you're seeing? A lot of those are actually the work of demons. Nothing they touch ever is good, which is why we exist. We stop them from killing, seducing and taking advantage. If we can capture them we study them so we get better at it. It's a hard dangerous job, but someone has to do it.

Of course we cover up the mess. If people knew what really went on in the dark, there would be chaos. Not to mention you'd have the bloody idiots demanding rights for the beasts. No the reason we keep this information hidden is the same reason I get up every morning to go to work; to keep people safe.

Humans are evil little buggers, no question about it. Of course, their also capable of such good as well. That's the real issue. Everywhere you have people doing good and bad, and believing and good and bad. And belief is a strong thing, stronger then money, even strength and will at times. Belief has the power to bend people and make saints out of sinners. Have enough of it and pop! It takes on its own form of flesh and blood. Gods, angels, demons, deities, whatever you want to call us.

Now you might think it gets simple there, you have good demons and bad ones, good beliefs bad beliefs. But when you give an idea consciousness, things start to change it. The world around it, what happens to it, what doesn't happen to it, rather like humans. You can have the most evil belief in the right place at the right time turn into a saint, and visa versa. Throw in the confusion that is generated when you go from nothing to something, and this makes categorizing demons about as easy as categorizing humans.

Of course that doesn't stop people from trying to kill us. That's why we keep hidden. There are already enough people who know, and all they always want to do is to try and kill us, or take us apart. Or both. Imagine if the information about what some of us do got out to the general public. Jesus you humans do bad enough things to each other, let alone if we were made public knowledge. It would be like the witch hunts all over again, just this time with actual witches. So we stay out of sight. Some have adapted better then others, but most of us just try to make it through day by day,

Beranabus – Demon.

The relationship between demons and humans seemingly is a conflict that suggests a misunderstanding of both sides, and I believe that with better study and more publicity of these little known creatures there can be a lot accomplished for the good of both. I have managed to by mere chance gain an insight into a world that exists within ours, and am almost ready to release these to the public. This must be done, not only for those that demons regularly seem to hurt, acts that are then covered up, but for the demons that are also persecuted in the shadows of society.

First however I require one last piece of information. Beranabus has stopped showing me things, telling me that right now isn't a good time. Pressuring the subject has only led to the phrase 'The first one might be coming back' with no further information on the subject. He seems almost superstitiously afraid to say any more, rather strange and rather uncharacteristic of him, and I do worry for the creature. I can't have this 'first one' effecting my research however, so I'll just have to find the thing myself. Can't be any worse then any of the other specimens I've examined over the past months.

Alright, tried this before and didn't get enough interest, so lets try this again!

General world information:

Set in modern times. No more information really needed here.

Demons:

Demons are physical manifestations of belief, ranging from single person followings (Although rare), to entire religions. They come in almost all shapes and sizes, and generally suffer from the same flesh and blood limitations and dangers of all living creatures (Need air, can bleed to death, need food etc etc). However all share the same similar traits.

Reason of being: Every demon has a reason to exist, and this will generally come with a urge of some kind a itch that needs to be scratch, A god of flower arranging will have a powering urge to arrange flowers etc etc. Although this effects the demon, and doing said 'act' is generally very satisfying and pleasurable, it isn't the entire start and end of a demons personality. Many try to resist their natural tendencies. Having said that, many also go out their way to do these acts, often with hurtful effects to those around them. For instance a demon based around the belief of a figure of healing may purposefully hurt people to give them something to heal.

A knowledge of the first one: No matter how young or old the demon is, they know the story of the first one (Explained below).

Technical immortality: As long as there are people who still believe in them, assuming they aren't killed by other methods, demons can in theory live forever. However once the belief stops, they tend to start ageing at a rapid rate (Generally sticking around for about 10 years or so after that)

Childhood: Demons aren't born, but rather just pop into existance. Newer demons are generally more confused, suseptible to just following basic instincts,

D.I.R.E (Demonic Intelligence Retrieval and Extermination):
Over the years many humans have found the existence of demons, generally through some kind of tragedy. Although most try to forget and move on with their lives, others take a more proactive approach, hunting the creatures. Although many freelance operations exist, the main organization is DIRE, a secret international body designed with the sole purpose of removing the demonic threat. Although they have no real clue about the purpose or creation of demons, they are very very good at tracking and removing the threat.

Although most demons they face end up on the exterminated list, few are actually captured alive. The handful that have managed to escape have described a living hell of experiments, tests, and eventually, when a demons usefulness runs out academically, execution at the hands of new recruits being trained.

People who know about demons tend to 'disappear', although a few do join the ranks of DIRE itself. Agents generally have a negative view of demons, often, although not always, being introduced to the hidden world through a violent personal loss. Even with their fundamental views, they can't be considered evil, as regardless of what they do, they do it with the goal of helping people.

Other humans:
Most humans go about their daily lives with no knowledge of what goes on around them. A few outside of DIRE have had previous experience with demons, most of the time dismissing what they saw a imaginations or childhood fears and ignore it, trying to live their lives. Some of the higher up members of the criminal organizations also know about demons, all too happy to take advantage of the more deperate coperative ones. Nothing quite says debt collector like a 6ft demon with claws and teeth.

First one:
Known by every demon by heart, although told slightly differently by all. There was said to be first demon, made of no belief but instead coming up from the earth itself in response to humanity. Other demons soon followed under his rule, their powers crushing all those who opposed them, bringing humanity back into line with nature, oppressing them for the favours of the superior beings.

No or demon could stand up the first one, his powers seemingly infinite, his mercy none existent to those who stood in his way. Until a uprising happened, where both those demons who objected to the oppression and the humans themselves banded together to fight their common foe, and finally trapping him deep under the earth.

The differences in the story come from what demon is telling it. Some will describe the first one as a saviour, a creator. Others will tell of a evil oppressor. Quite a few demons believe that he'll rise again one day, put humanity back in its rightful place, a hope that is seemingly fuelled by the ever increasing pressure from DIRE and others like them.

1: No godmoding, mary sue's etc etc etc etc. You know the drill by now.

2: No limit on recruitment. People drop out of RP's and it's always better to have too many then the other way around.

3: I'm looking for about 50-50 split in human - demons max. Too many demons and you have too much chaos going on for the others to deal with.

4: You should have a limit of about 4 main chars, and only if you can handle it.

5: Try to aim for a 1 post every 1-2 days. I don't mind more or a little less, but don't sign up if you're planning on working 20 hours a day for the next 6 months.

Age: Appears to be in her twenties, However actual age is unknown.

Race: Demon

Current employment: Formerly regarded as a Greek goddess of obsession, guilt, infatuation, and mischief. She was a trickster demon who would lead men into actions that would be their demise. However, as Greek belief's and followings began a steady decline to only a few cult followings. Ate opted for adapting with the times and now runs (anonymously, of course) the most prosperous casino in Vegas, where she continues to employ her "talents" behind the scenes.

Appearance:


She carries no weapon, for she needs none. For all of her physical weakness, with the barest of touches she can drive a man into a mad delusional state of infatuation or guilt. Quite curiously, this power resides only in her right index finger and only seems have an effect on men.

Current view of the other race: Ate, is forever fascinated with human men, tormenting- and even loving them. As far as women go-- she ins't interested in the least, and carries a more indifferent view.

Reason for existence / Bio:

An ancient Greek divinity; ATE (Atê), as legend has it, was a daughter of Eris who led both gods and men to rash and inconsiderate actions and to suffering. She drove men man insane with infatuation, guilt, or amplified their desires to drive them into obsession.

Her cravings, led her historically from major metropolises around the globe spreading practices of prostitution, gambling, and organized crime in her wake. Currently, she has taken up residency in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she runs "House of Hubris"- her casino and playground for all things gambling, sleight of hand, drunken marriages, and mafia dealings.

Powers/skills:

As stated above, her power only takes effect on human males and is bound to her right index finger. When the unfortunate victim is "touched" the afllicted can display all or some of the following depending on Ate's intent:

Delusion

Infatuation/Compulsion/Obsession

Berserker-- or the more mild version of it; Adrenaline Rush. The latter being usually a gift on to which she bestows to only her most devout followers and lovers.

Name: Harvey Cavalier

Age: 30

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Current Employment: County Sheriff

Appearance: Harvey is a caucasian male standing about 5'9" with a moderate build. He has shaggy, untidied brown hair, and dull, green eyes. Harvey prefers to dress more formally, most often being seen in a green dust coat, brown suit pants, a white button up shirt and black vest, and a green tie, all with a black leather belt and boots. In addition he usually wears a dull, olive-green hat with a wide brim. Because of personal preference, Harvey carries a rifle in addition to his service pistol whenever he's on duty, and if he is not able to keep it on his person he will have it stashed somewhere in reach.

Current Knowledge of Demons: Does not know they exist.

Current View of the Other Race: Currently not aware of demons, nor does he believe in them.

Skills: Very adept with a rifle, above average stamina.

Bio: Harvey Cavalier is the country sheriff of Esmeralda County, making his residence in Goldfield, Nevada. He is applauded by the locals for his distinctly hands-on approach to the county's law-enforcement, actually working in the field with his officers in addition to the typical desk-duties of someone of his position. His career started about a decade before as a patrolman, and was generally successful in his chosen line of work, mostly because Goldfield was always a tiny little community where the most Harvey ever had to deal with was the occasional speeder or drunk driver; violent crime was a rarity in the time he served.

It would come as a shock to him then, when one evening in his early career as a patrolman, that he received a call to investigate a disturbance. Arriving at the scene, he found the body of a woman sprawled out on her front lawn, deep stab wounds piercing into her back. Harvey quickly found he wasn't alone, face to face with a man in a hooded jacket hiding in the doorway nearby, watching Harvey investigate from a safe distance away with unearthly, glaring red eyes. The encounter rapidly escalated when Harvey noticed the man's clothing was stained in fresh blood. He drew his pistol and held the assailant at gunpoint, trying to buy time while backup could arrive, but the assailant fled and vanished into the night.

The case went cold, as the assailant was never found, and the case files were locked away. Most people forgot and moved on, but in the back of his mind, Harvey always remembered that night, he remembered the face of that man. Even when the rest of the investigators let the case go, Harvey always worked in his spare time to try and find the hooded man. Almost five years to the day, Harvey suddenly caught wind of a murder in New York, where witnesses described seeing a man in a hooded jacket with bright, red eyes fleeing the scene...

Current employment: she works minimum wage at her aunts clothing shop. She lives in a small apartment so rent is relatively cheap.
Appearance: she is half hispanic and half African American. She usually wears a black wifebeater and her signature torn jeans that are often paired with flip flops
Current knowledge of demons:she only knows of them from superstitions and religion, but she doesn't believe they exist
Current view of the other race: she believes that demons are the things of fairytales
Powers/skills: her only skill is that she can draw slightly above average level
Bio: Alex grew up in an extremely radical and cult like household that was dominated by religion until the age of thirteen. Her years before that were normal, she would go to school and then go back home to another rant on something offensive. Her parents would never let her out or let her do anything and as a result she came to despise them and would rebel at the slightest provocation.

When she was thirteen her parents had enough. Their views clashed horrifically with hers and neither party enjoyed one another's company. They sent her off to new York with nothing but a small backpack. Custody was given to her aunt, but Alex really didnt care. She never was at home anyway, opting instead to sneak out and get into trouble with the police more often than not. Even though she was classified as a "wild child," Alex was pretty reserved and thus did not keep friends easily. At the age of twenty her aunt helped her buy a new apartment and occasionally asked her to make dress patterns for her shop. Ever since she moved out an ominous feeling followed her wherever she went and she can't shake the feeling of hopelessness

Current view of the other race: Hates demons with a passion, and has been hunting them almost his entire life.

Bio:

A normal life had never been the destiny for which Jonathan was created. He'd never known his mother, not even faint memory of person who had given him birth. His father however... no his father he definitely knew.

He was a hunter, which made things rather different growing up. While kids his age would be into sports, Jonathon was learning how to shoot. While other kids got presents of bikes and puppies, he was given a hand made hunting knife for his 12th birthday He didn't ever question what was happening, he saw enough of what his dad stopped to never even consider not following in his footsteps.

He killed his first demon at the age of 15, putting a first notch on his knife, one that would quickly be joined by countless others as he traveled across the country, a team of father and son.

Things however couldn't last, and it eventually happened. Something went wrong, a hunt went bad, and a second parent was taken by the creatures. But time moves on, things keep going, and Jonathan continued going on alone. Eventually he ended up having dealing with D.I.R.E, and it seemed the only logical next step to join the organization.

He's spent the last 4 years with them, gaining a reputation for being reckless, yet getting results. Is seemingly merciless against the creatures, and has a higher then average mortality rate against targets, even for a D.I.R.E agent.

Name: "Wilhelm" Malach

Age: Appears to be in mid-20's, is actually about 600 years of age

Gender: Male

Race: Demon

Current Employment: Hospice Worker

Appearance: Will is a tall, slender man with pale, white skin standing at a height of 6'1". His eyes normally are a shade of colorless grey, but his eyes turn red whenever he is using his powers. While in the day he wears powder blue scrubs, when he's not working Will prefers to wear black pants, a red shirt, and a black, hooded jacket. Will is able to conjure a scythe out of his shadow at any time, but normally keeps it hidden when it is not in use.

Current View of the Other Race: Will is aware of the dependence he and other demons have on humans, and as such treats them very respectfully. He in particular is very merciful towards dying humans, and is drawn towards them.

Reason for Existence: When belief in a 'Grim Reaper', a personification of death, started to arise in the 15th century, Wilhelm was born into the world. He serves out his given purpose as a sort of gatekeeper between this world and the next, taking himself wherever war, disease, and famine led him.

Powers/Skills: Will is able to manipulate shadows to either attack or briefly hide himself. Through this ability he is able to inflict injury on others without leaving physical wounds or causing pain, often making it appear that victims die of natural causes. He also has the minor ability to tell when someone near him is about to die.

Bio: Malach was born in about the fifteenth century when the notion of a Grim Reaper started to become prevalent through humanity. The belief in a manifestation of death, specifically the Grim Reaper, spawned Malach into the world. Confused at first, Malach started to carry out his purpose with reckless abandon, stealing away the lives of countless men and women throughout the ages. Yet, after nearly two centuries of satisfying his urge to kill, guilt began to catch up with him. He started to mourn the lives he had already taken, and refused to indulge his purpose wrongfully any more, to no longer take the lives of people before their proper time had come. he adopted a more 'human' name, Wilhelm, and started to live amongst the population.

For the next few centuries, Will still indulged in the urge to fulfill his reason, not by killing, but by being there for those who were in the throes of death. He was always there to console them in their final hours, there to walk hand in hand with them in the pain of their last moments on this mortal world. He used his powers strictly to give the suffering a painless way out, and for a while, he was content.

Five years ago, however, while living in Nevada, Will felt the dying cries of a woman calling out to him. He found her lying on the lawn of her home, barely conscious and choking on blood. In her final moments, she explained that she had been stabbed by her former lover. Knowing that her time on this world was up, he remained at her side to assuage her fears, and laid her down on the lawn when she at last was ready to depart. He only had a few moments to himself though, before a rookie police officer showed up to investigate the disturbance. He tried to draw away, but he was spotted, and the officer held him at gunpoint, demanding he stop. In a panic, Will fled into the shadows.

After recovering from his injuries, Will decided to leave the little town in Nevada. He had convinced himself he was going to pursue the woman's murderer. Year after year, he tracked the remorseless widower by following the wake of death he left behind; following the trail all the way to New York...

Oh yea, everyone so far is accepted.

Having said that, I am surprised (Nicely) at the Demon human ratio. Last two times I tried this everyone wanted to play as a demon. Never could get enough hunters/humans to get the thing started really (Too many demons means there's not enough people to sort out the messes of the first part of the story).

I'll be putting my next char (The demon Beranabus, sadly Dr Cornelius doesn't really play a large role in the story ) in a bit. Hopefully we can get a few more, start, and pick up one or two stragglers after the beginning.
