I've read all of the books, and watched the movie, so I'll explain. Each district has their own way of making money and surviving. Katniss's district is coal, District 11 is fruit, ect. So for the games, each district has to have some type of costume to represent what their district does. Seeing as Katniss and Peeta were from the coal district their designers decided to capture everyone's attention and gain them favor by setting them on fire. No real point to it, actually, but to give her an identifier to the people of the capitol.
In all honesty, it gets better through the series. Although the last one was a bit of a disappointment since she spends half the time in a hospital bed >.>
EDIT: Though I do agree with you, just about everything in all the books was rather predictable.
Deadly Cute Crochet
Deadly Cute Crochet is a small business run by yours truly (: I crochet hats and dolls. I'm working on making pieces of clothing, and knitting. There's not much up at the moment, but I'm working on getting even more up. Ordering things are more than welcome, as well as liking the page, and telling your friends!
TBH the book is alot better in my opinion but I have my personal gripes with it. I just conected and cared for the chars more than the story line or how it was writen.

never read the book, never seen the movie. was considering it, but then the fandom kinda burst out like it was twilight or something. unsure if it's worth seeing since everything that's to be known about it has been spoiled by the world already.
I haven't read the books, but I have this natural tendency to avoid anything that becomes the focus of Twilight fans' literary migrations. Maybe if they had some sort of parallel to Team Jacob I would take the time to read it but to be honest I have better things to do than read a book with the expectation of not enjoying it.
Like posting on here, for example.
In general most things that become extremely popular are overrated to some degree.
