    Uncertainity (Luna Griffith x Eruraina)

Sara Doe walked into the experimentation room. She picked up a chart that rested on a table before moving toward Project X's cage. "How are you doing today, Xi?" She asked as she looked over his chart. It said that everything was fine but she liked to talk to the experiment, as if he wasn't just born a little while ago.

She was the top scientist on Project X. She had been assigned by the government to create a super being to fight in this terrible war. She had objected often but they threatened her with treason and she relented. She couldn't help that she was the best biochemist there. So to make things better on her and the project, she gave him a name and spoke to him calmly. She hadn't even told him his purpose, actually dreading when she would have to turn him over.

Xi floated upright in a great tube of liquid, all sorts of tubes attached to him to monitor his vitals. He didn't have one over his mouth though. He didn't need one. His creators had made it possible for his lungs to adapt to any kind of atmosphere, including underwater. For what reason this was so, Xi did not know. All he knew that it was not pleasant breathing water, not as nice as it was breathing air.

For his whole short life he had been poked and prodded at by various different people wearing white that did not look like him. Over time, he had started hating these people. They did not explain what they wanted with him, or why he was there, all he knew is he was a prisoner and he hated them all.

Except for her. When she looked at him, it was with a different gaze than the others. Though being young, Xi did not know what this look was. And she was the only one that talked to him, not commanded him.

Today she entered as always and looked at a paper, as always, as she greeted him. Xi put a gnarled hand on the glass that separated them and opened and closed his mouth a few times, mimicking the movements of her face, wishing her could reply. But his voice did not work in this liquid.

Sara looked up at Xi as she wondered why he wasn't answering, then she remembered he was in the special liquid that was made to keep him healthy. She slapped her forehead. "I'm so sorry, Xi. I had forgotten you can't speak in that stuff. Give me a moment." She said as she moved to the control panel. She pressed a button and the liquid began to drain out.

She walked back up to the tube and smiled at the experiment. She put her hand over the glass. "Better?" She asked him. She felt sorry for him. She looked over the chart again and sighed. She would have to say goodbye to him soon. The government would be coming down today to check out his final tests.

Xi watched her from the black pits of his eyes, as she moved to the controls and pressed the commands that made the water go away. He floated down with it till his feet touched the ground. The liquid was then to his chest, waist, knees, ankles, and finally drained out completely, leaving the creature still dripping. The whole time his eyes did not move from her. Something was different.
"Sara," he murmured, his voice, as usual, was low and very raspy. It almost sounded like a growl. "Thing trouble Sara...?" His words were slow. Being a test tube creation, his thought process developed faster than the normal human, so he did have a grasp of the english language, but he was still a young creature, so certain technicalities hadn't been taught to him yet. Most of what he knew came from observing.

Sara looked at Xi as he spoke to her. Her eyes were gentle and sad. "I'm not allowed to tell you what's troubling me, Xi." She said in a soft voice. She put her hand on the glass. She wished she could tell him but if she did then she would be in a lot of trouble. "Trust me, if I could I would but I can't and so I won't." She looked at the time and saw that the government officials would be there any moment. Some of the lower scientist were filing into the room to prepare for the final testing. "This will be the last day you'll be poked and prodded. So it's a day to celebrate." She said putting a smile on her face.

Xi's mouth turned down to a frown as Sara spoke, causing the great spike coming out of his cheek to angle down slightly. Today would be different, he could sense it. It made him cautious. Both his hands clenched into fists and unclenched, his muscles rippling until ashen skin that protruded with great spikes here and there. The line of small bones like a chain that came out of his elbow, which was usually wrapped around his arm, started twitching back and forth like a cat's tail.
"Xi trust Sara," he said simply, dark eyes never leaving her. Then the other white coats started entering. These he greeted with a low rumble in his throat. The needles would start coming, and the tests. Sometimes they made him run to see how fast he moved, other times they made him lift things, or see how fast he could obliterate a piece of gel that looked like a human torso. All these things he did, but did not know why. They always asked him to do these things, in his short life, that for him had felt like forever. For time did not seem to effect him. He was a fetus to an adult in a matter of hours and had spent the past few weeks in his current state, only growing stronger and his spikes bigger.

Xi didn't like speaking around the other scientists, and so grew quiet when he was done growling at them, and moved away from the glass. He went back to watching Sara with his dark eyes...

Sara smiled slightly as Xi said he trusted her. It only made her feel worse. She almost told him not to when he suddenly growled. She grinned and moved away. "Alright, Xi. Same old same old today but remember it'll be the last time. Then we can celebrate your graduation." She said as if this was like some high school testing. She knew he wouldn't know any differently. The lower scientists began to get the needles ready. She watched them like a hawk, making sure they didn't do anything stupid.

The government officials came in, all big people of the senate. She narrowed her brown eyes at them before telling them all that the testing would begin shortly. First Xi needed his shots, to make sure his immunity would stay strong for however long they needed him. She always did this herself, making sure he would stay calm.

Graduation? Xi had never heard that word before. So he did not know what it meant. He shifted as a few of the other scientists readied the needles, and began to watch them instead of Sara. That was, until others entered the room. This drew Xi's attention for these people were different. They did not wear white coats, but black. He gave another low growl towards them, but realizing the man with the needle was getting closer, he looked back at that man. The bone chain unwrapped itself from around his arm and poised as if a snake ready to strike. If the scientists were to hurt him more than necessary, Xi would do to him what they made him do to the gel torsos.

Sara saw Xi poise for attack. She bit her lip and took the needles away from the man. "I'll do this today, okay. He's a bit uncomfortable with new people here." She explained. The man rolled his eyes at her, thinking she was crazy for being so nice to a tool. She walked over to Project X with the needles. She smiled soothingly at him. "Everything will be alright, Xi. No one will hurt you. Well except the small pinch you will get from the needles but remember these are to help you." She said as she picked up a needle and got ready to give him his shot.

Xi's 'tail' as it was often referred to, relaxed when Sara took the needle. His eyes moved back to the men in the black cloths. A few of them had moved their heads closer together and spoke to each other in whispers. Then one of them stepped forward.
"Wait. Let the other scientist do the vaccine," he told Sara. "We would like to see how he does under the pressure of being uncomfortable with others watching while interacting with someone he's... not so accustomed to."
Xi heard the words, and if looks could kill, the daggers he was glaring would have sliced the man in half. Xi understood now a bit why the men were here. They wanted to watch while the white coats did their tests on him. Why they wanted to watch, Xi could not know...
