Boredom
I find that everyone stumbles on it in a different way...What's your story?
Boredom
Depends on how you look at it. I first played Dungeons and Dragons since it caught my attention, but I didn't think too much about role-playing specifically. Likewise, I kind of blundered through the process while playing MUDs. It wasn't really until I discovered the richness and greater rewards of role-playing that I really got into it though.
Someone plain out invited me out the blue.
I was a debator on a manga forum, and someone invited me to RP who didn't even know me.
Here I am now Rp'ing all over the place for years now, though sadly only til Sept now.

Neopets.

I have a tender spot in my heart for cripples and bastards and broken things.
I saw it on a social site, and watched it for about a week or two; then joined as a guy with a puppet... a living, breathing, soul having puppet.
I suppose I could elaborate on this.
I was bored and poking about the internet for games to play. I stumbled across something that was firmly RP when it came to in world. I wanted a MUD but I didn't want the fast pace of a MUD. The game I found was pretty much that.
I ended up ignoring most of the in-game mechanics unless they suited me, and slowly started focusing more and more on RPing. The game world, though, was too big for the small community involved, and much of the community was pretty centered around specific individuals. I'd have my characters all around the game world and, despite the fact the game was supposed to be anonymous IC, it wasn't difficult to figure out who played what.
People act the same, and have very specific quirks. They can't help themselves. So I started getting bored of RPing with, well, the same 10 people as well as being bored with the fact the game's mechanics were easily exploitable. I went looking for a site that focused on RPing, and not mechanics, finding my way to RPGuild.
It kept my attention for some time.
...and now it doesn't.![]()
I think it was a number of my friends that got me interested enough to try it out. And well, I have always had the urge to create, and roleplaying is a form of creation.
And while I have been over a year without doing any roleplaying boredom plus the urge to create drew me back.
Signature is being updated...
My english teacher told me it might help my shit marks. So I typed in something about roleplaying and this page comes up. I clicky clicky, sign up, and do stuff.
I was also doing a very small SW RP at the time on FB as well.
I really should leave the site though. I used to have friends and a life and... haha, are you people actually listening to me reminescing?
Me and my friends before RPG -------> (-(-(-.-)-)-)
Me after RPG --------> :'( *forever alone*
Madness is the emergency exit. You can just step outside, and close the door on all those dreadful things that happened. You can lock them away... forever.
You're just a freak. Like me!
2005: Technology and nation-roleplays.
In short, I wanted to try out some "tactics", techno-jargon, and "strategies" on interweb-proles.
2006: That was a mild-success, in finding 'the draftroom' (which I've only been banned from once for being rather new to internet-ettiqutte).
2007-2008: What got me into character-RPing? Mostly in an effort to add a cinimatic level of emotional-depth, boredom and the death of the nation-roleplays as I knew them resaulting in something of a migration.
2009: Convienently, DeadFrontier went to MMO beta-testing by then, and it had an RP forum.
(downside: the forum had insane loading-times)
2010: So when the mods went mainstream and began cracking-down on the more 'abusive' members (to their server), I fled here.
???: Somewhere along the line, I branched into several offshot nation-rolepays based upon the original that actually outlived it.
-Every so often I did a zombie-RP, and towards the end I always picked the determined geriatric cripple. Fuck, I even chopped off his legs in the medical-ward because I was bored... Battle-wheelchair, EXTERMINATUS!
Oh, and in '06 I joined this lil thing called UrbanDead and learned kiZombie (which for a time was stolen by WalMart).
