No one can remember when exactly the world came to be the way it is today.
Sure, there are stories of how things were before-- but for we of the Red Scarves, one of the countless tribes of kids struggling to survive in the world above the Labyrinth, the history records that our ancestors kept mean nothing. All that matters is food and water, shelter and weapons, and the need to carry on. And so, none of us cared when the records were sold for supplies ten years ago.
The world above the Labyrinth can kill you within minutes if you're not careful. The sunlight burns through skin like a flame through paper, and children of rival clans will kill for their own-- just like we kill for ours. But none of that comes close to the nightmare that sleeps within our blood-- No, none of it compares to that which hunts all of the children of the world through the day and night. It doesn't matter where you were born or where you go, for it will happen to you too, as it has happened to all of our parents, brothers and sisters for the past fifteen years.
Some time during the seventeenth year of your life, all memory of your loved ones and the world you lived in before will be forgotten, and you will turn into one of them-- an Older.
The Older are a race of nightmarish demons who consume the flesh of human beings, and once a boy or girl turns seventeen, it will not be long until they undergo the painful transformation. The Older become more monstrous and deadly as they age, and there is no cure.
It's a terrible thing, but there is little to do about it but suck it up and survive. The world has pit children against their mothers, fathers, and siblings, and only one side can win.
Will it be us, or will it be them?

Hey everybody!
Welcome to the Interest Check for The Red Scarf Hymnal! Make no qualms about it, this will be a very dour storyline, and even though all of the characters will be children no older than the age of seventeen, there will be quite a lot of mature themes. I am looking for this to feature a lot of good characterization, with really interesting relationships and dynamics between our avatars as they deal with the horror of what awaits them.
The storyline will involve our characters trying to survive in this horrible world while going through a treacherous odyssey in the hopes of finding a cure to the terrible affliction which has plagued humanity for the past fifteen years.
That's about it as far as the "pitch" goes. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I'll be looking to keep the cast a bit small, so let me know if you're interested!
