Sky lost quite a bit at a young age. Her birth parents were killed in what seemed like a terrible force of nature. A mana storm sparked, destroying everything within a 3/4 mile radius. Sky was the only thing that survived, but she wasn't the same. All the memories of her parents, her childhood, anything that might tell her who she was before, all disappeared.
Feeling lost and directionless, Sky wondered to the forest, where she befriended a forest ranger, who took her in as his own daughter. His name was Sonji. Being the typical forest ranger, Sonji was warm hearted by nature, and had a well defined judgement of right and wrong. However of all the things that Sonji was, none could have been more helpful to Sky than his sincerity. He loved Sky, just as much as any parent could love their child, and always made sure Sky could never doubt that.
Being the daughter of a forest ranger definitely isn't for everyone. Sky had to be in top physical strength to be able to keep up with Sonji during hunts. However, physical training is only one part of a ranger's duties. Sky had to learn the basic fundamentals of magic, such as finding your element, feeling rhythm, mana control, and much more were daily teachings. But however seriously it should have been taken, whenever she was on a hunt, Sky loved to go looking for things to impress Sonji. It was all in good fun, until she found something that she would regret for the rest of her life.
While looking for food, Sky found a magical knife, quite a catch compared to her previous finds. Beaming with pride, she presented the rarity to Sonji. Noting the value in the great craftsmanship, as well as magic density of the knife, Sonji developed plans of selling the knife in order to buy Sky a bow that could channel her magic. Sky could not have been happier, as being a ranger didn't earn much, she didn't expect to get something like this until she was 18. Unable to wait for him to make a trip there and back, Sky tagged along with her dad.
Along the way, a man with a truly dreadful looking body, tried to take the knife from Sonji. The man looked almost like a zombie due to the grey value of his skin, and numerous half healed wounds. When Sonji refused to hand over his daughter's gift, the man revealed himself as a battlemage, by slicing right through Sonji with a small dark blade. The impact had shattered Sonji's ward. Sky was traumatized by the event, and threw the knife at the mage, saying he could have it, if he would revive Sonji. Poor Sky couldn't have known that the knife would cut the exhausted mage. On impact, the cut itself was not at all deep, however the mage fell lifelessly to the ground. In a panic, Sky ran to the knife, attempting to reverse whatever curse was on the blade. This sealed her fate.
Upon grabbing the blade, a flood of mana flowed into her, and the realization came like a ton of bricks, the knife is a mana stealer. Having absorbed the mana contained in the knife, there was no way to save her attacker. Sky's face plummeted into her hands, with teary eyes, but looked up after hearing a faint familiar sound. "Hey sweety, please don't cry."
Sonji was calling to Sky in a fading voice, he looked as pale as a man in ice. Sonji put his hand on top of Sky's head, despite the obvious pain it caused him, "Sky, look at how big you've grown. I'm so proud, to have had, such a wonderful daughter... *Sonji coughs up a bit of blood, it seems to be flooding his lungs* ... I want you, to explore the world. This forest is too small to contain your curiosity for the wonders of life. I love you Sky, stay safe."
Sonji's death was a breaking point, Sky could no longer control the massive amount of magic inside her body. A burst of frictionless (also meaning soundless) lightning emerged from her body, encompassing an entire quarter-mile. Sky was left in the same scene from all those years ago, except she knew what happened. Poor Sky, couldn't touch a bow without remembering memories of Sonji carrying her through the forest, tucking her in at night, showing her how to hunt for the first time; she simply couldn't handle the emotional burden of using a bow.
For the next few years of her life, she used improvised magic skills to hunt and travel. She spent all hours of the day seeking out rare artifacts, and visiting all kinds of unique places. Until eventually a wondering fortune teller saw Sky's potential for magic, and instructed her to go to the magic school Sanctuary, to become a talented mage.
Sky's time in Sanctuary was the most wonderful thing that could have happened to her. Her time spent there was filled with long hours of training, studying, and Jack's antics. Her training with Katothen provided her with a new level of control, that she had never experienced before. She made good friends, and made quick progress due to competition with her fellow students. Kai was an especially worthy adversary of Sky. She and Kai would often spar, usually using only skills they learned in class, but occasionally using actual weapons. She never knew if Kai realized it, but she admired him, which is why she would treat him so rudely, sometimes even coldly. Sky's view of Kai, was actually caused by an accidental sighting of Kai through his dreams with Sky's pendant. She saw his desire to learn healing, despite the fact all he knew was the path of the battlemage. The very next day, she challenged Kai to a sparring match in an isolated area, and not to Kai's knowledge, allowed his blade to make contact. When Kai finally asked why Sky wasn't able to dodge such a simple attack, she told him that she wanted to trust him with her life, filling him in on what he saw him do in his dreams.
Illyasviel was quite quickly Sky's love interest. Sky made numerous attempts at impressing Illyasviel, occasionally resulting in undesirable mistakes. Notably the scandal Sky pulled attempting to become her roommate. Sky managed to become good friends with her, and Sky admired her, in a way she hadn't felt before. Sky's success, might be entirely a result of having met her. It was Illyasviel's sharing nature, that allowed Sky to come to grips with her past. Sky's potential, was finally unlocked.
Sky acceled in her classes, learning almost as fast as her teachers could present the material to her. She began to leave the school on independent study(not always alone) more and more, and discovered the orgin of the knife she found all those years ago. It was an attempt made by a faction of the Magi, to try to control demonic magics. The design of the knife was made to bring complete order to magic that locked inside the blade. The project was an utter failure, instead of bringing order to demonic mana, it fabricated it into chaos strings. When these Magi attempted to absorb the mana from the dagger, the threads infected their body's, threatening to turn them into actual demons. Fortunately, their body's were not strong enough to withstand transformation, and the dagger was lost.
The time of the evil Magi faction had long since passed, but there are still those insane enough to experiment with the tools they left behind. Sky was an experiment, a test subject by her parents. She learned this truth, when she was attacked by a man by the name of Blaze Harden. He was a talented mage, gifted with curses and barriers, and cursed with madness. After the battle had ended, Sky found a letter on Blaze's person. The letter, was a membership list, with a project agenda. Circled in red,"Test effects of elemental fission on magic type and amplitude: Test Subject *a picture of Sky*"
Sky returned to Sanctuary completely silent, finally fully aware of the circumstances of her birth. She failed to attend class, and no longer trained with Kai, or approached Illyasviel. Sky spent the entire time, tampering with a badly beat up old bow. After a month had passed, Sky finished working. The bow didn't seem to be anything special, aside from a fancy tag attached on the grip. Yet it shot with incredible force. More so than has been replicated in a bow of it's size. Sky left Sanctuary as a master, to pursue a job creating magical items/weapons for high ranking wizards. But fate had a different plan.
To this day, Sky wears a necklace holding a heart-shaped locket, with a picture inside. Inside it has a picture of Kai, Illyasviel, and herself; smiling joyfully, with the lake and a beautiful sunset hanging in the background. However things are different now. The new generation of magic had come. With the level of education Sky obtained, she could have worked anywhere. However the letter from Red Star offering a teaching position held special value to her. All those wonderful times she spent at Sanctuary could be experienced by anyone, even non-Magi. Sky looks forward to teaching the next generation of magic, and is one of the youngest teachers in school.
