Personality- Clinton is a serious and quiet man. He is extremely thorough, responsible, and dependable. Having exceptionally well-developed powers of concentration he gives off a constant sense of absolute focus to those around him. Clinton is usually interested in supporting and promoting others instead of stepping up and becoming a leader. Well-organized and hardworking, he will work steadily towards identified goals and the tasks required completing them. Clinton can usually accomplish any task once he has set his mind or been ordered to it. During rare occasions where he is forced into the leadership role or simply required to explain or lecture he can come off as having somewhat of an ego. This is not one born from simply having a big head, but instead is the product of a man who completely understands himself and his abilities. Constantly working towards self-improvement Clinton represents the very core meaning of an archer.
Biography- Born in Waverly, Iowa Clinton lost both his parents to a car accident when he was five years old. He and his brother were brought to a local orphanage which raised them until they were both 11 at which point the two ran away and joined the circus. Under the training and mentoring of Swordsmen and Trick Shot Clinton grew into a highly accomplished archer and soon enough became a lead attraction for the circus. It wasn’t long before the teenager began to get swept up in the hype of masked super heroes and had his own ideas for becoming an unknown vigilante.
His relationship with the circus deteriorated immediately after he found his father figure Swordsmen was stealing money from it. Beaten and left for dead he was later accused of helping Swordsmen with the thefts and forced to leave. Now on his own he donned the identity of Hawkeye for the first time. Once again his desire to help was quickly thwarted he botched his first attempt to stop a criminal so badly that he looked as though he was helping the criminal. For several years he then avoided trying to act the hero and instead used his abilities to work odd jobs in security.
It was during this time that Clinton met a young woman (Black Widow) who was working at the research facility where he was a night shift worker. Clinton quickly fell in love with her and when asked to help her steal important documents and research from the company he blindly agreed to do so. Under her spell he continued to build Hawkeye’s reputation as one of an enemy to America and possibly an agent of Russia. All the same he didn't care even after learning and accepting that Natilalia was manipulating him. At one point their target was to steal Stark Enterprises secrets and sell them to Russia.
In one of their battles with Iron Man, the Black Widow is seriously injured. Hawkeye is able to rescue her and flees the battle to save her life. But before Hawkeye can take her to a hospital, the Black Widow disappears. Hoping to find her he confronts Iron Man once more only this time he is beaten by Iron Man and handed over to the authorities where he would stand trial for the many crimes he had helped commit with Black Widow. During this trial he was approached by Nick Fury who gave him an opportunity. Clinton could stand trial and possibly be found guilty of treason or he could join S.H.I.E.L.D. and be pardoned if he proves himself a useful agent. He agrees to work for Fury.
It was during this time Hawkeye's loyalty was challenged when he was given the task of assassinating his former partner Natalia Romanova. Determined to end this assignment on his terms he sought out the Black Widow in hopes of convincing her to join S.H.I.E.L.D. When the two finally met Hawkeye's words first fell on deaf ears as Natalia's own loyalty stood strong. Even after allowing himself to be disarmed Hawkeye is unable to convince his love to turn. In response he let her go though shooting her with a nonlethal arrow. Inside the tip was a hidden message informing the Black Widow that he will continue to chase her though accepts he may never in fact catch her. When he comes back he is told that he was being watched by other agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. who reported his actions were 'acceptable'.
Now having been with S.H.I.E.L.D. for over six years Clinton has played pivotal roles in other Avengers lives including being one of the few to have ever ‘defeated’ the Hulk by way of tranquilizer arrow. He has also been released from his duties at S.H.I.E.L.D. to work with organizations such as the World Counter-Terrorism Agency and Defenders. At this point he has recently been working overseas in Africa until he got the call from Fury to return to S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters.
Strengths
Trick Arrows: While deadly with even a rudimentary bow and arrow set Hawkeyes true abilities come out when he is equipped with his tactical quiver and specialty type arrow tips. To list a few that are at his disposal he has acid, adamantium, bolas, cable, electrical, explosive, flare, incendiary, magnetic, smoke, sonic, tranquilizer and vibranium arrows. Each arrow holds a strategic purpose ranging from nonlethal to battlefield manipulation and transport.
Support Role: Hawkeyes major contribution in a fight is his ability to lend support to almost any member of the Avengers Team. He works best with those who are limited to normal means of transportation. Avengers like Thor, The Hulk and Iron Man, are able to move across a wide distance so quickly it is rare for them to be supported by anyone other than each other. In Clinton’s case he works best with Captain America and Black Widow.
Stealth: When a mission calls for an operative to be silent and deadly there are few more capable than Hawkeye. His weapon of choice is as silent as they come and the man has impeccable reflexes, swiftness, and acrobatic grace. In this world there are few places in the world were Clinton can’t move about undetectable. Save for an S.H.I.E.L.D. base or two.
Weaknesses
Mortal: While all the Avengers are capable of dying only a handful of Avengers are completely and truly human when fighting. With Hawkeye there are no powers waiting to be born or body armor that gives its wearer advanced weapons and the ability to fly. When he walks into the fight the only thing he has is his light body armor, bow, and quiver of arrows.
No Unlimited Ammo Cheat: Hawkeyes skill with a bow and arrow are unmatched, but that does not mean he has the ability to conjure up new arrows when needed. His tactical bow and quiver are both Stark Enterprise Prototype design; however, he can only hold up to 60 blank arrows. Once he runs out of arrows Hawkeye moves onto his side arm and finally his martial arts training.
