    The Art Of Magic

    The Art Of Magic OOC
    ~~>>~>——<~<<~~

Today's weather seemed to match the mood of the occasion; sunny with just a little cloud cover. With summer weather still yet to come for a few months, it was a little chilly out, but not enough to stop me from wearing a simple T-shirt and a blue trimmed white skirt. I liked this shirt in particular because it had a picture of my favorite band, Lucky Chan, on the front, with the songs of their newest album on the back. The only issue was how it often drew unnecessary attention to herself when people tried to read the shirt.

It was only after entering Red Star that I came to realize exactly how new the school was. Compared to the size of the halls, the crowd was tiny, leaving plenty of free space to move around. In fact, with the ceiling raised 18 feet above the ground, it would be easy enough to simply fly above the crowd. Although, without knowing the actual rules of the school, it was hard to tell if magic was permitted to be used in the halls. The letter gave us the basics for where to go, a key to the dorm, and a map, but nothing about the rules.

I really hope I don't get into to much trouble without meaning to. There are all kinds of different students here, and I'm not quite sure how to deal with it. Elves weren't too bad, because they looked close enough to human, but ogres and imps were a bit harder. Although, I'm giving myself too much credit, I'm still not that sure about my own race. I don't like being surrounded like this, even if the hall isn't crowded, so much is happening around me. All I know is that group of guys keep looking at me, what do they keep talking about? It looks like one is coming up to me, is he gonna...

Thinking about it is just making it worse, maybe I can just get to class... I launch forward, going straight from walking pace to a full out sprint. I like the way it feels when I run. The way the wind passes, the quick weaving past the different obstacles. Life starts coming at me faster, and I always know what to do. I don't have to stop and think about what everyone else is doing. I think I'm...

My momentary absence of attention to what is in front of me causes me to crash face first into the door of the room I was heading too. Rebounding to the floor, it is amazing I'm still conscious, mortified, but conscious.

I breathed a sigh of relief. After a long arduous journey from the edges of Tel'Morae, I had finally made it to the Red Star Academy. I was glad to have arrived by day, because the main building cut an imposing figure against the sky, one that could surely be described as intimidating if encountered at night. The double doors hung open like the yawning maw of a dragon. With a slight laugh I imagined the Red Star as a dragon, devouring all the crazies who wanted to learn magic. I grabbed my necklace, feeling the amethyst burn beneath the cold clear quartz. I was one of those crazies.

I could pick out quite a few elves in the crowd. Their pointed ears of various styles standing out against the field of faces. I wondered what lands they hailed from, and which bloodlines they traced. I restrained a harsh chuckle, knowing that if the topic of bloodlines ever came up, I would most likely be shunned by the Elven community. I pulled my crimson robes tight around my chest. As if I could hold in the pain of an exile. Again I looked to the sky, but this time, Red Star Academy cut a figure of hope into the slightly cloud obscured sky.

I smiled, perhaps I could discover my bloodline here. Perhaps then I could make Ristan love me. I brushed a hand through my short brown hair, as always letting my fingers rest on the tattoo of the red dragon behind my left ear. 'fire,' I whispered to myself, 'you are fire, and you do not get burnt, you do the burning,'

I was not sure where to go first, but I figured if I wandered around long enough I'd find some hint of where to go.

Within the Etheridge Estate, a man sat alone in front of a fireplace. Next to him was a table with an empty bottle of wine sitting on top of it. The open flame from the fireplace would flicker and be the only movement made in that room. The crackling noise of dry wood burning would pop and be the only sound made in that room.

A door opens and two figures step in. One of them, a maid, replaces the empty wine bottle with a pristine bottle. The other figure, the heir to the lavish estate, stood on the opposite side of where the maid was performing her duties. The maid, holding the empty bottle, spoke, "Young sir...Tristan-" but before she could finish Tristan held up a hand to dismiss any objections she had. With a strong yet solemn voice Tristan said to the man in the chair, "Father." He paused to see if there was any reaction from his father. There was none. He continued, "Mother had made the ultimate sacrifice bringing me into this world. I do not want to waste the life given to me. So I will take my leave and hope to one day return as a better person. A better person that she..." Tristan hung his head with his eyes locked on the floor, "...and you could be proud of." Tristan's father still made no reaction.

Tristan made his way back to the door he entered through with the maid. "I'm sorry for what I did to mother" Tristan said as he stood in the doorway, "I love you." Tristan then shut the door behind himself and the maid leaving his father in that room. All the while, Tristan couldn't stop thinking about how that was the longest conversation he ever had with his father.

Whilst Tristan said his goodbyes, the carriage outside the manor loaded up his belongings. As soon as the young heir boarded, he was off to the Red Star Academy. Within a quarter of a day's travel he had arrived to the relatively new school. Outside of the main entrance, Tristan exited the carriage and gave the driver specific instructions as to where to leave the trunks. Tristan then made his way to the classroom he was designated.

Wandering through the Academy with an expressionless face, Tristan was searching for the classroom. There were few students in the halls and they all seemed preoccupied. Except for one that looked like she was lying on her back for some odd reason. He was not one to abandon a person in need. Showing neither smile nor frown he asked the girl on the ground, "Pardon me. Are you alright?" His voice experienced about as much emotion as his face. Very little.

Standing at the front gates of the new school I would be attending, I couldn't help but grin. I've been thinking about this day non-stop since the moment I found out that I would be attending. Of course, the school is bigger than I expected, by a lot, but who cares about things like that? I just wish thee were more people around. Girls, especially. Not to mention I have not spotted a single other human yet. Maybe it's just bad timing, but it's still a drag.

And here I was, dressed in what I considered my best clothing. Maybe not best, really, or sharpest, but they were my favorite. My shirt was black with a large symbol on the front. I'd been told it was some Eastern countries symbol for the word 'Fire.' I couldn't be sure, but I assumed it was true because the bottom of the shirt had designed flames on it. When I saw it, I had to have it. My pants matched the black of my shirt and just as well, had flames designed on the bottom. A perfect match. Around my neck were headphones I could wear to tune out people if they started to annoy me, along with my most prized position, the necklace my sister had given me. But as I said before, not nearly enough girls were around to see. A drag.

Not nearly enough of a drag to ruin my mood though. As I walked to the entrance I could feel my excitement growing. I was practically ready to burst. I wanted to get right into the magic now, but I knew there would be a lot of bull crap to get through first. Lectures, rules on safety. All that crap. Stuff my sister had drilled into me day after day already. Thinking about it annoyed the hell out of me, but I kept walking despite the small facts. Atleast I would still be able to meet new people and learn to control my magic to an even greater extent.

Soon, I had made it into the school and already found myself taking in the sights of the hallways and the other students. At home I was surrounded by humans, so seeing so many different kinds of... Creatures, was a new thing for me. I liked it though. They were unique to me, and maybe I was unique to them, in some small way. And if not, I could always make myself stand out, just for fun.

Getting lost in my thoughts, I spotted a girl, sprinting in the hallway. It looked like she was heading right for a door, which I guess was fine, until she didn't stop and smacked right into it. The effect, for me, was instant. I laughed. It wasn't loud, but still. I couldn't help it. It looks like she would stand out more than me already. I forced myself to stop laughing and walked over to the girl, a grin spread wide across my face, I'm sure. She caught more than just my attention as well, I guess, because at the same time some guy approached her and before I could ask if she was okay, he did.

“It is real,” Mac thought as he gaped around the hallways. “I still can’t believe it.” Mac clutched his stained acceptance letter tightly in his right fist. When he had first received it, he had thought it was some sort of practical joke. No one, or at least no one he talked to, had even heard of Red Star- besides, what kind of magic school would want him anyways.

Mac readjusted his backpack. It was getting heavy and was bursting at the seams. He hadn’t used it since he went to regular school but this time instead of being crammed with books and papers, it was stuffed with all of his worldly belongings. Well, except for the old furniture that he had to leave behind and his best friend in the world, Toby.

Toby looked up at him from his traveling bowl, Mac would have to send for Toby’s real tank later. The fish seemed a little displeased with the downsized container. “Sorry buddy,” Mac said softly to the fish, “I’ll get your old home back as soon as I can.” Toby did not seem at all satisfied.

Mac continued down the hallway trying to read the map of the school, avoid sloshing excess water out of Toby’s bowel, and navigating through the hallway. He wasn’t really successful at any of them.
“Whoops! Uh… Sorry,” Mac said as he almost stepped on a girl who was sprawled out on the floor being helped by a particular grim looking boy.

Just managing not to spill Toby all over the two, Mac slinked into the near-by classroom.

Jason reached the new school of magic after a long ride in a car. He stretched his body after putting his duffel bag out of the trunk of the car. After stretching, he picked up the bag, which was filled with clothes and several other stuffs, put it on a shoulder and then started to walk with his other arm put inside his pocket towards the dorm. He walked while taking quick look to the crowd. He could discern several other races among the small crowd. That would meant the school has a pretty wide connection since it could sent invitation to the cities of the other races, assuming all the students was invited in the same way he was.

He continued walking to the dorm room he was assigned to. Well, that was until he saw a girl colliding to a door and rebounded to the floor when he was passing through one of the hallways. Amused, Jason stopped and watched the even unfold, including how somebody extended a hand to help and another almost stepped over her.

As I stood there staring up at the magic school I was to attend, immeafiately I knew this would be one place I'd spend the rest of my life. So far, there were plent of students already roaming the grounds, some just sitting or walking around chatting with their friends, or even greeting the new people that were attending the School of Magic. It didn't look to bad from the outside, but who knows what the inside looks like.

"Well, welcome to our new school, Exelus." she said, lifting her hat slightly from her head. A small little white dragon with long barbs with green fur at the ends peered our from under the hat. A small puff of smoke puffed from his nostrils as he yanked the hat back down with his tiny jaws. Pippa chuckled slightly as she lifted her hat again, and grabbing Exelus and planting him on her shoulder. A small puff of smoke escaped his nostrils showing he wasn't amused. "Ah, don't be like that, we'll have some fun here." she said softly, petting his head lightly before walking off into the school.

Inside the school, it looked pretty immense in size. "Wow." she muttered to herself, her eyes shifting all over the place as she looked about. Seeing as the inside also looked better than how she expected it to look, Pippa was quite pleased with the school already. She roamed the hallways for a while, just wanting to get a more of a feel for the school, and also to navigate to the other class areas.

The Red Star Academy, the best mage academy in the world, a place to become a better mage, and a better person, and only one person did not want to be there. Taken away from the ones she loved and used as a pawn in her biological parents' plan, Draeka hated the Academy. To her, it represented another hell.

Draeka was barely surprised at the number of different races that attend the school. What had her old 'master' told her, that "Mana flows through everyone, and only those with large enough pools can use it. Race has no advantage or disadvantage, but one. . . . Only long living races can grow the largest pools." Of everything that old bastard taught Draeka, the fact that anyone can be a mage, and the only factor was the mana pool size, had prepared Draeka for the scene in front of her.

With a sigh, Draeka entered the school, planning on getting kicked out any way she can.

Zanna walked into the main hall of Red Star Acadamy. "Really?" she scoffed. "Geez, I really expected more." She gave a sigh and took a look around the hall. Crowds of students were gathered, making idle chat and the likes. Humans, elves, ogres, imps. Most likely other races too. But of course, not a single ragdoll beast in sight. Zanna should have figured. Any sane ragdoll beast wouldn't want to disguise themselves as a weak, stupid human while also being surrounded by every other race than their own. Zanna had her reasons, though. She felt learning magic would help her become stronger, also it could make her parents have a bit more respect for her. "Well, enough hanging around here!" Zanna said, deciding to head off to her dorm.
As Zanna walked in the corridors, she saw quite a scene. A small group of students were gathered around some girl sprawled out on the floor. Zanna couldn't tell if the girl was conscious or not, but someone seemed to be helping her. Zanna approached a human boy that seemed to find what was happening amusing. "Hey, is that girl alright?" Zanna asked him, with false concern in her voice.

Just as quickly as I fell, people began assimilating all around me like I was a part of a show. I never particularly fond of groups of strangers approaching me, adding the tone of the man helping me up, I couldn't help feel brutally uncomfortable I my reply. "Yes, I guess I should be more careful."

After returning upright, I realized that everyone was being held up with me sprawled out in front of the door. Feeling more than a little embarrassed I motion with a slight bow to the people standing around me, "I'm sorry". Hoping for something to take my mind off of recent events, I trot off into the classroom without another word.

Shortly afterward, I turn to enter the classroom, still feeling hot in the face. The room was fairly large. The walls filled with shelves containing all sorts of magical odds and ends. Desks were arranged in rows around a larger area clearly meant for the teacher to instruct the class. Up towards the front of the room, a black haired very pretty girl was looking through assorted papers. Maybe she was a teachers assistant. Again finding myself lost in silly details, I realize I should take a seat. I hope I wasn't staring... Taking my seat quietly, my eyes wander around the room.
