Anywho, yes. This should be a rule, people take thing like that to heart sometimes. It's sad to think that people would even do that. And like Panda said, adding 'xD' or '' doesn't make it any better. Come on guys, we're better than this. Truly.

Commented because this thread was more or less brought up in spam first, and I told them there that I'd leave Contra to answer the specifics. But I just now noticed that Contra's going to be offline for awhile. As for the snotty comment at my expense, Gat pretty much summed up the response. Trying to convince someone to kill him/herself is not Fonz cool, and therefore is already in the rules.

Elendra, it should be fairly obvious why one was punished and the other wasn't. To start with, the first occurrence wasn't in fact anyone telling you that you should go kill yourself. It was a negative comment certainly, but so were most of the others in that silly thread. Next, it wasn't brought to my attention until 2-3 weeks after it happened, and after another mod had already looked at it. It was a little hard to go address what was otherwise a very minor (in comparison to the rest of spam's shenanigans) comment so long after it happened. You also said there were PM's afterward, but you didn't have them to show to me, so I didn't even have that to go on. Added to all that, the issue wasn't one where there was a prior issue or any reason to believe the person in question actually wished you harm. "Be Fonz Cool" is a rule, but if we followed it to the point where every vaguely offensive comment in spam, joking or otherwise, was punished with heavy infractions, most of spam would be permanently banned. We have to read the grey areas and this situation had a hell of a lot of them. It was a stupid post, but so were most of the others, and again, no one specifically told you to go kill yourself.

NOW the second issue was a very different scenario, they were vicious and hostile and in no way joking around, and the message was pretty damn straight forward. Their tone and approach to the situation was way out of line. It was a no-brainer to hand him a few infractions and a ban with an order to return with a severe change of attitude or not return at all.

And no, this doesn't mean that in the future telling people they should go kill themselves is okay as long as you say you're kidding. Leave the whole subject alone, or face the same ban punishment.

When Contra comes back, I can ask if she has any other views, but it's pretty much been covered. I don't want to have to deal with this same issue again.
