    Roleplaying "The Thing"

    Hi, everyone:

I thought I would make a casual interest check to see if there were other players interested in playing the sequel to "The Thing (2011)" and John Carpenter's "The Thing (1982)."

One must face fear, paranoia and truth in the course of confronting one's sanity. Weigh your options. Who can you trust? Who will survive?

Over a hundred miles from the McMurdo Station, nothing but life-taking ice, snow, a frozen wilderness of dangers. Isolated, alone, with little or no escape, what are your options?

Though not uncommon to sustain loss of communications doing the long Antarctic winters, no alarm flags would have been raised members of your relief science expedition rotate to relieve the previous team. Members of YOUR team!

As your Sea King helicopters land at the site of the devastation of United States Outpost #31, but there are further sites that have not been explored - other stations that have lost contact with their national bases. In that the mystery begins...

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Interested players could play pilots, research scientists, geologists, mechanics, physicians, grad students, animal handlers, cooks, climatologists, etc. Send me a private message and let's see if we can take this concept into roleplaying...

I am renewing the interest check for a "The Thing," Casual Roleplaying game. I truly believe that this would be very fun and should be done.

Ugh I haven't seen the 2011 Thing yet. Naturally that's not something I could take the kids to and my husband doesn't like horror films. On the other hand, the 1982 Thing is distinctly etched in my mind as one of the first horror films to really ever genuinely give me nightmares. I may be game as a research scientist or physician.

    Certainly!

    Hi, CalliopeCrayon:

Yes, you may play either role. Standard character development with attritubes like name, age, height, weight, hair / eye color, occupation, nationality, and brief suimmary background.

I will be raising the game In-Character site later today.

Additionally, I have put out some feelers to the other roleplayers on this system who have had a similar interest in this horror / sci-fi storyline to see what interest is sparked.

Finally, I need to do some online research as to the initiation of a plotline and possible expansions of the story.

    Welcome!

Think I have a better plot scenario

I beleive I have a better plot scenario for the continuation of the storyline from the two 'Thing" movies. This will have the jumping off point starting from the American McMurdo station and the crew rotation change-out in mid-September, 1982.

Also, I believe that after the initial exposure / infection, I will leave it up to the players to decide whether they want to voluntarily change into a Thing or this will additionally be handled w non-player characters as well.

    Oh, no...Better

Oh, no...this is much better! This is the one that is a' la' Cthulhu...a mimick alien that copies its host perfectly and then attacks when least expected! It will be a lovely RP with the plan I am brewing!

The Thing is creepy gross the way it bursts out of something and then merges all those things together into a big blob. I suppose it is a bit Cthulhu the way it takes things over too.
