GMs: Is it a good idea to GM two RPs at once?

I would like to ask successful GMs out there if it is recommended or not.

I have an idea for another roleplay but I'm currently GMing a very active roleplay. I love my current roleplay but I want to host this another roleplay. Would it hurt me if I GM both?

How do you take care of players with a lot of grammatical mistakes without sounding like a total asshole?

And what would you do if you're interacting with another player but the player went inactive?

Depends. I'm of the opinion that you should focus on one at a time. I know people who don't, though. You can RP in others while you GM the one, however.

If Post is readable, ignore the mistakes outright.

If post is unreadable, suggest they drop their post into MSword

    You're the GM, right?

I haven't done it and probably won't, but I have seen it done well by others. Maybe someone with experience will weigh in with some advice or you could ask a GM who juggles two or more directly about it.

    Dudel covered this quite nicely.

How long have they been inactive for? Depending on the circumstances you could take them over, move them about and get them to a point where they are off screen and unimportant. If they are important to the plot just use them as an NPC for the duration.

    1. GM'ing 2 games at once isn't something I can recommend, but it's your spare time.
    2. "Hey man, I'm having some troubles reading your posts. Mind going over the grammar a bit before you submit? Would be much appreciated. Cheers!"
    3. Contact the GM or in case you are the GM; whatever the hell you want :P

It all depends on how well you can divide your attention. Some people are great at running multiple games at once, some really can't. My suggestion is to simply give it a try, and if you can't handle it, let one of them go, or turn control over to somebody else so that the RP doesn't die outright.

You might find it helpful to make notes about where you want the story to go for both of them, that way if you have to hand it off to a new GM, they'll have a ideas to work with. Notes also come in handy if you need to post something quickly, especially if you're prone to creative blocks every now and again (I find it rather difficult to switch genres sometimes, so if I'm going from a DnD campaign to a zombie survival RP, it's great to have notes to look back on).

Adopt a helpful tone when you approach them about it. It's hard to bring up the subject of spelling and grammar these days without sounding condescending, so I wouldn't even bother worrying about it. As long as you stay polite, you ought to be fine. If you really want to prove that you're not out for them, shoot them a PM and deal with it there, that way it doesn't seem like you're calling them out specifically.

It's up to you as the GM to keep things rolling. If you find yourself in a situation like that, you can either ghost the character along with as little dialogue as possible, take full charge of the character yourself until the player becomes active again, or, as Dudel so readily suggested, kill them off.

Taking me seriously is generally discouraged, mostly because even I don't take me seriously.

Taking more than one roleplay wouldn't 'hurt' you, but it does take more time to host two roleplays instead of one. I generally make a rule to only do one or two roleplays in case I have don't have time from work(or homework / tests for other people) and have to be inactive for a bit.

As long as you have people who can take over your duties if you have to 'disappear' for a bit for whatever reason. I don't see there being any problem.

Asking them to put their next post through a spell checker because you find their post hard to read has been a sensible request in my experience.

Ex: Um. So-So Name. I am having a hard time understanding your post. Could you put it through a spell checker?

And what would you do if you're interacting with another player but the player went inactive?
If the player went inactive. I tend to have that character naturally leave the stage either on an errand or stay back in the previous town or go off slaying dragons on their own(whatever fits their character) so that the other players don't have to interact with that character anymore and can get on the rest of the rp without them. If that person ever returns and wants back in. They have a way in(back from whatever adventure they embarked on) without disrupting the rest of the story.

Personally, I dislike killing people off because they are inactive, a bit disrespectful if you ask me, but if it makes sense (you were in the middle of a huge battle with arrows and hatchets cleaving) then by all means have a sword find its mark among the chaos and chop their head off. As long as they're out of the big picture and no longer stopping anyone from posting.

When I GM, I focus on one Roleplay at a time. That's a personal choice, and knowing those who've hosted multiple at once, I think I'll keep to this. Power to those who enjoy doing more than one though!

This. Been here a few times and I just made it clear that it's a learning experience for us both. Pointed out that the power behind their post might come out more if things were a bit clearer, of course pointing out areas where one just can't make out a damned thing. Spell-checker doesn't always work when the issues are highly confusing grammatical issues.

When players have gone inactive I usually do my damnedest to get a hold of them in some form. If after x days pass, based on what I understand to be a "long time" for that specific person, I make decisions. Once I turned the character into a victim of a trap, hinting to those around them of danger. Another time I used them as one of the casualties in a crash, and once more as a NPC who'd serve a similar purpose to warn or inform participants through show rather than saying "hey, these guys are hostile, they'll shoot you".
