PROF. JOHN MARWICK
Headmaster
Born and raised in Chicago, Professor Marwick was identified as a mutant from an early age and cast out by his right-wing parents and left to fend for himself. Eventually, he was picked up by an orphanage and spent the remainder of his childhood and teenage years moving from one foster family to another; each abandoning him when they learned of his abilities. Still, somehow he managed to perform exceptionally in school and finished his education with impressive grades, and so he went on to study politics at university; determined to make the world a better place for mutants. His plans went well and he soon entered the government where he was appointed Head of Mutant Affairs. As a side-project, he founded the Marwick Academy out of his own money in order to give all mutants a safe place away from prejudice and to help them learn to control their powers and utilize them for good. Unfortunately, his wealth diminished - as it turns out, running a residential school in a stately ground with absolutely no cost was not very cost-effective. Through dealings with the government, John finally managed to earn funding to re-open the school... In return for playing by their rules. In his head, he knows they're up to no good; but he's willing to do anything for the greater good of mutant kind.
John has the power of biokinesis.
MISS. JANE LILLIAN
Deputy Headmistress
Jane was born in Omaha, Nebraska to a stay-at-home mom and an electrician father. She was the fourth of four children, and the first to display an interest in electronics - establishing a close bond with her father. She often joined him at work on weekend, and showed impressive skill at a young age. Only as she grew older did they realise she was a mutant. Her mother wanted her to be sent away, though her father loved her too much to abandon her. Instead, he rented her an apartment in the city and paid her bills without letting his wife now - visiting his daughter every day in his breaks from work. She joined him as an electrician for many years when she was old enough to work; until he died of age. Looking for something else to pursue, she discovered the Marwick academy - which had been open for about 10 years at this point. Impressed by her control of her power, Marwick employed her as a teacher - and she gradually worked her way up to deputy-headmistress status.
Jane has the power of electrokinesis.
PROF. SAMSON QUATCH
Mutant History teacher
Born in Texas, Samson's mutation became obvious soon after his birth - as he grew dark black hair, sharp nails and teeth and beast-like features. He was considered evil and a spawn of the Devil by the devoted Christian townsfolk, and forced to leave the town before he was killed. Thankfully, he was adopted by a Peruvian travelling circus where he spent his early years - though he moved away when he was of age - getting a job as a librarian in New York. Homeless, he slept in the library - and could never resist the urge to read books about his own people - the mutants, learning everything there was to know about mutant history. Marwick heard news of the mutant librarian, a fixture of New York subculture, and invited the man to enter employment at his academy with an impressive salary and access to a vast library. Of course, Samson could not resist.
Samson has the power of bestial physiology.
MS. DIANE HARPER
Power Physics teacher
Diane was one of the lucky few to be born into a mutant family - as the gene strikes at random, and so her situation was near miraculous; both parents having super-powers. She was an only child, as her parents did not wish to risk giving birth to a non-mutant child as it may feel rejected. They were a proud family - her father boasting elasticity and her mother flight, and having powers was a natural thing for her. She attended school, doing exceptionally well in the sciences, but otherwise being an average student - and this caused her to take science to the next level; wanting to learn about the physics, chemistry and biology of powers. Soon enough, she was a renowned expert in the field - her parents incredibly proud of her - and Marwick stopped at nothing to get her onboard as Power Physics teacher.
Diane has the power of invulnerability.
COACH RICK ZOLANSKI
Power Training teacher
Rick Zolanski was born to Russian parents and lived a relatively average life. He was the champion of all athletic abilities at the school he attended, but despite this his parents were never pleased with him, wishing he would be more academic so that he could get a good job. Because of the hostility between the two, Rick moved to Arizona where he became a high school sports coach. It wasn't until he was approached by Professor Marwick that he learned he was actually a mutant - and obliged to join the Professor at his academy, mainly because of the higher pay and in-house accommodation. Due to living in such right-wing areas, Rick is closed-minded and is a mild racist; although his hatred of gays exceeds being merely mild. Despite this, Rick is kind at heart beneath his tough facade, hardened by years of rejection.
Rick has the power of enhanced physiology.
MLLE. CLARICE GASCARDE
Mutant Culture teacher
Clarice was born in Paris, France to a French aristocratic family, making her very wealthy. She discovered her powers during her teens, but thankfully they were easy to hide; and Clarice chose to do so from her parents to avoid being cut off. Her background lead her to become very well-versed in the arts and her status earned her a place as a regular columnist in
FlashArt France magazine, until she noted the job availabilities at Marwick. She didn't need a job, but decided she needed to give something back to society, and if that meant helping people like her through the struggle of being a mutant through culture, then that's what she would do. She still writes her columns for
FlashArt France from the academy, however.
Clarice has the power of chromokinesis.
MISS. NATASHA EAST
Health & Well-being councillor
Natasha was born in Essex, England to an average family - the eldest of two daughters. Her powers began to manifest when she was in her late teens - and at first she thought she was going insane. Soon, she realized that she was actually a mutant; and she had to learn to control her abilities if she were ever to rid herself of the ambient emotions she had to endure. After years of self-discipline, now in her twenties, she had successfully managed to selectively block out the emotions of others - and control it to a point where, if the emotion was strong enough, she could even listen to thoughts the person was having that were causing that emotion. Despite this revelation, the years of psychological turmoil and taken their toll, and Natasha had to have multiple counselling sessions. During these sessions, she became interested in the profession and worked her way up to become a councillor herself. She only left her position when Marwick offered her an alternative, as she felt she had the experience to help people who had been in a situation to her.
Natasha has the power of empathy.
MRS. GAIL WHITE
Housekeeping
Gail was born to a modest family of Yorkshire, England in the Winter of 1947. By the time she was 21 she was married to her husband, Roy - although despite their efforts, Gail could not conceive children. This, however, was perhaps a blessing in disguise, as it meant that the couple had much more disposable income than most families in the tough economic climate. They used this money to migrate to America, where they lived happily for many years - Roy as a builder and eventually an estate agent, Gail as a housekeeper. Unfortunately Roy suffered a premature death to lung cancer during the early 80s, and Gail was left alone in the world - her parents had passed away, she had no children and now her husband, too, had died. Fortunately, she was notified that a new residential school for mutants was opening - in search of gifted individuals to act as its staff. She applied, got the job and has been at the school longer than any of the teachers. She is kind and caring and most students grow fond of her - and she always appears happy, despite her regret at not having children of her own and the guilt of never telling her husband she was a mutant.
Gail has the power of telekinesis.
JONAS AKERMANN
Catering
Born in Sweden, Jonas was part of a large, loving family of mostly humans - although his mother was a mutant. They embraced and loved him for who he was even after his powers emerged; his seven brothers and sisters treating him no differently than they would had he not had powers. He was never interested in food and hoped to one day be a doctor, however when that did not work out he ended up getting a job as a dishwasher to get by. He loved the kitchen environment; the adrenaline, the creativity, the pride, and developed an interest in food. He worked his way through the ranks and quickly discovered he had a natural knack for cooking, and eventually opened his own restaurant in San Francisco. The restaurant was cost-effective as the only staff required was him, and combined with his fine foods it became a famous joint - until anti-mutant protestors attacked it, burning it to the ground. Fortunately, Marwick was on hand to offer Jonas sanctuary and a job doing the thing he loved.
Jonas has the power of self-duplication.
