Fianna snatched the wristbands out of the air as they walked. Seriously, I'm supposed to be hiding you and you two create something out of thin air. You aren't making my job any easier. She said to them as she put the stones into the slots before equipping the wristbands. She shook her head as they told her to try something. She wasn't going to try anything at that moment. She looked at the pirate sword that was still in her hands. "Erick you owe me new daggers. I wasn't able to get mine back before you blew the ship up."

Paul: I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when my fear is gone I will turn and face fear's path, and only I will remain.

"That's true, I do. When we get into town, we can check the weapons shop, and see if anything catches your fancy." He says with a smile.

Ask him to teach you to use the blue daggers he fought with earlier. It would be an excuse to begin practicing magic, and you will gain a powerful new weapon. The stones whisper in your mind.

Fianna smiled at Erick and nodded. "Alright but I was wondering something. Later can you teach me how to use those daggers you were using earlier. They seemed interesting." She asked with a light smile. She knew better than to disagree with the stones. They have helped her so much. Though she didn't really know about using the magic.

"Controlling magical energy like that is a little difficult. I could try, though. Do you actually know how to cast magic?" He asks, tilting his head, and looking at you, almost as if he's looking through you.

Close one. He read your aura. The aura from our contact with you is blocked. He has seen your potential, though. Lets hope its high, without us, otherwise he won't teach you.

Fianna looked down shyly. "Uh...I don't know how, well actually I've never tried before. I know that it has to do with saying the right words." She rubbed her shoulder as she looked up at Erick. She hoped that he would teach her. She was biting the inside of her cheek. "I've always thought that I didn't have the potential but I want to learn."

"Oh, you've got plenty of potential. I read your aura a second ago. Lots of power there. I'll teach you. The process is... a little difficult to explain, but once you get it once, you'll never lose it. You have to sort of, slide your mind down through your body into whatever body part you want to channel the magic through." He says, raising a hand. He focuses for a second, and then speaks.

"Creare!" He calls. A sheen forms in his palm, and sand rises from the ground, collecting in his palm. A glass dagger forms there.

"Creation magic. A little tricky, but a good skill to learn. It requires the most energy-control, and the blue-blades I used before are a form of creation magic. If you want to use complicated spells, you'll need to learn the language of power. That's where spellbooks come from. But, you can do weaker spells with regular English. Go ahead. Try and put your mind in your hands, and say 'Lift that rock!'." He says, pointing to a small stone laying on the ground.

    Go ahead, try.

Fianna raised a brow when he said that she had to put her mind in a body part. She seemed skeptical. She looked at the stone and closed her eyes to focus. She did her best to shift her mind to her hands. "Lift that rock." She said as she opened her eyes. She looked at the stone that she was supposed to be lifting. She focused on it.

You instantly feel your mind slip into your hands. It takes no effort at all. It must be the stones doing. "Levare quod petram!" You hear yourself say. Erick looks surprised. You feel surprised too. The rock wobbles slightly, and then lifts upwards to eye-level.

"I didn't know you knew the language of power." His eyes go out of focus for a second. "Now that's interesting. At some point in your travels, you must have met a powerful magician, because there's a spell on you that makes your words into the words of power when you use magic. And, to top it off, it's not feeding on your energy. Interesting..." He says, looking down at the ground ponderously. The Mapmaker, having been sitting quietly for a moment, stands.

"I think I'll go and secure us a room. You two come in when your done playing around with magic." The Mapmaker says, coughing a little.

"Right, right." Says Erick. "Okay." He seems to be done thinking about whatever he was thinking about. "The phrase to summon knives is just that 'Summon Blades'. Of course, you'll need to say 'Summon Steel Blades', or 'Summon Energy Blades'. However, since sand is readily available, lets start with 'Summon Glass Blades'. Summon one like I did before." He says, folding his legs. He appears to be sitting on the air, and just floating, without touching the ground at all. A blue haze surrounds him. "A quick meditation that I'll teach you later. Try to summon the blades." He says, hovering there, hands together, fingers interlocked into a complex latticework.

Fianna felt her eyes widen in shock. Though the shock wasn't there for long. She knew what happened. It was the damn stones. She instantly pulled her mind back and let the rock fall. She thought to the stones. 'You know I wanted to learn without your help. I'm not going to have you forever.' She was angry at them but didn't show it on her face. She mustn't let Erick know that she has them. She took a deep breath to calm herself as she listened to her teacher. She might as well do this.

She closed her eyes, forgetting about her anger and the mapmaker's departure, and once again let her mind slip into her hands. She tried to feel the familiarity of it. She then opened up her eyes, looking at the ground. "Summon Glass Blades." She said.

The second time, sliding your minds into your hands is extremely difficult, but you manage it. Not so easy without us, is it... The stones whisper in your mind. They actually sound hurt.

"Summon Glass Blades!" You hear yourself say, not in the language of power. A staggering amount of energy tears itself from your body, and you black out, two perfect, glass knives laying on your chest.

"Fianna? FIANNA!" Erick yells, leaning over you, though of course you don't know it.

You awake on the sand, only a moment later, being shaken by Erick.

"Gods above, what happened? The first time, it seemed so easy for you." He lifts the blades you made with your magic. "Still... these are... amazing for your first time. Really, astounding." He says, spinning the blades in the air.

Still don't want our help? The stones snap in your mind. Without us, magic will take you decades to master. With us, you could become an adept magician in weeks, and the skills will transfer. Their voice softens. Sorry about snapping, but you're our host. If you die, we'll be destroyed, and no living thing wants that. Still, if you want less help, we can give you less help. You have high potential, it's tapping into that potential that's difficult. So, we'll just help you by providing strength. Sound good? The stones ask.

Erick smiles down at you. This is getting a little confusing. "Don't think that one diving act will get you out of a lesson. We've got plenty of time to kill. Since you obviously have trouble tapping into your own body, I'm going to teach you how to draw power from the elements around you. Close one eye, and put your mind into your open eye, like you do with your hands. You'll see the energy around you. Then, extend your mind from your body, and put it in the energy lines." He looks at you, expectantly, waiting for you to do what he asks. You realize Erick is quite the demanding teacher.
