Common Name for Nation: Russia, New Soviet Union, the Union, NUSSR
Proper Name Revived Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (RUSSR)
Russian: Возрожденный Союз Советских Социалистических Республик (BCCCP)
Population: Approximately 270,000,000 citizens, all devoted to serving the Motherland--in theory, anyway.
Military Details: The BCCCP boasts approximately 7,500,000 soldiers on active duty and another 12,000,000 or so in reserve. Combined with the Union's knack for producing military technology, these soldiers make up the most powerful ground force in the eastern hemisphere.
The Motorized Rifle Troops make up most of the Union's ground force, are highly mobile, highly trained, and equipped with the AK-200 assault rifle, composite body armor, and augmented reality devices which feed them real-time information concerning the situation on the ground. They are fiercely loyal to the Union, and a force to be reckoned with. Their main method of transport is an upgraded BTR-90 (of which the Union claims 16,000 active and 32,000 in reserve).
Tank Troops serve as the Union's main impact force, used for important combat decisions. The Union is always ready to show off its terrifying T-100 tanks (of which they claim 25,000 active and 23,000 in reserve) in the hope that they'll send enemy troops fleeing. Each unit has a group of engineers attached which are trained to repair vehicles quickly and efficiently, even in the heat of battle.
The Artillery Force provies the rest of the firepower, providing artillery, anti-aircraft, and radio support to soldiers in the field.
The Army Air Force provides aerial support for missions, primarily using the Hind, of which they boast approximately five hundred. When they need a smaller, specialized attack chopper, they send out the Havoc, of which they possess approximately one hundred.
Unlike their predecessors, the Union's ground troops do not attack in waves, instead coordinating with each other and using artillery and armor to take out objectives based on threat level, only moving in for the kill when true danger has been removed.
The Navy can field roughly eighty vessels equipped with Gauss rifles and kinetic missile pods, and keeps its twelve aircraft carries deployed strategically in order to aid its allies in the case of attack. The Navy's true pride and joy, however, are its submarines, which are silent, deadly, and virtually undetectable. They are able to move unseen and launch their payloads of kinetic missiles from anywhere in the world, accurately, with a five-thousand-mile radius. Though the Navy boasts fifty of these dangerous submarines, only twenty-eight are currently active.
The Union's air force is comprised mostly of bombers, but the few interceptors that they possess are top-of-the-line Mig-47s and Su-47s, which pose a threat to any other force in the world.
Industrial Details:
In addition to oil and gas it already exports, the BCCCP has begun using military technology developed during the third world war to navigate and mine the vast mineral wealth of Siberia and the Russian Far East. Manufacturing, especially machines and military hardware, still comprises a good chunk of the BCCCP's economy.
Accepted Religions: None, though citizens are allowed to practice religion privately--so long as it does not cause trouble.
Primary Language: Russian
Head of State: Premier Alexei Harkov
Harkov was born the son of an industry mogul, though he had no desire to pursue the family business. Instead, he went to school, then integrated seamlessly from college to the political scene, then fell off the map as the war started. He was never a military man, but that did not stop him from admiring the military, and he worked diligently behind the scenes to help the military through the war, pushing defense projects and pulling favors he'd accrued. Through his efforts he ensured that the Motherland remained, for the most part, untouched by conflict. In 2046, as the war died down, Harkov stepped from the shadows as the Premier of a newly cemented Union.
Government Details: The BCCCP is, for all intents and purposes, a police state, though not quite as brutally as the original. The Premier serves indefinitely, has full control of the state and its resources, and keeps his own personal cabinet of advisors. Each state exists semi-independently, with representation in a body known simply as the Administration, which, under the guidance of the Premier, oversees the more mundane, day-to-day domestic business. In addition to the Administration, the Premier appoints a group of ministers to oversee various aspects of the Union as a whole. The military serves as the police force, and oftentimes also as judge and jury.
Despite the BCCCP's socialist claims, the government doesn't control
everything--though pay is relatively low and many people don't have money for luxuries, the citizens enjoy some incentives of goverment control, such as basic health care and housing, but are encouraged to pursue economic ventures in the name of the Union, should they have the opportunity. These ventures are monitored, and any that prove too costly are terminated. Citizens that go above and beyond the call for the Union are recognized as often as possible, and are eligible for rewards and incentives based on the circumstances.
History (2020-2050): Korea's initial strike horrified the world, but the American reaction had the Russian people up in arms. So long had the Americans told them that their ambition was wrong, only to turn around and launch such retaliation. Russia called its neighbors to arms, and a new, fledgling Union was formed. The Union's military forces did their best to keep the fighting away from the Motherland, and succeeded in forcing engagements in the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia.
The Union provided limited weapons and supplies to aid the Central and South Africans in their cause and used their Navy to give protection to Cuba (for whom they had always harbored a soft spot) while war raged along the west coast of South America, but did not engage in any direct military action in these regions. Their true concerns were always much closer to home.
Union forces relented as the war stagnated, and pulled back to the Motherland to prepare for its defense. As preparations were being made, a Spetsnaz team was deployed to North Korea (a country the Union had allied with hesitantly during the war) to dispatch its leaders and begin the assimilation of its citizens, in an attempt to curb the country's enthusiasm for conquest. It was hoped that this would appease the Western alliances, if only to buy more time to build up the Union's defenses at home.
Alliances: Cuban Empire (10), China (8), Saudi Caliphate (8), Hindi Empire (5), Central African Republic (4), South African Republic (1)
Rivalries: Korean Empire (10), NATC (9), United Kingdom (8), Australia (8), New German Republic (5), Spanish Empire (5), New Italian Republic (2), New Kurdistan (1), Brazilian Republic (0)
Note: The Union is ultimately neutral toward Brazil, though Brazil's somewhat close affiliation with the Western Coalition technically makes them a rival.
