The Door To A New World (Feathertail22 and MurderVictim)

He sat upon a tower looking down upon the newly arrived people. They were all turning around and muttering in confusion as to where they were, what was going on and how do they get back home. They had no idea where they were or what was soon to befall them. They had fallen into a twisted world like nothing they’d ever seen before. They were used to their cushy lives on Earth where the worst they expected to happen was they failed a test or got fired. It was nothing they couldn’t potentially recover from, but they’d snivel about it for quite a bit. No this was a place very different. One wrong step and you lost your life. They were now in this world and game to live and die by his hands or each other’s. “Well, let’s get started,” he said more to himself than to anyone else. He stood and picked up his weapon, a scythe that was almost as tall as he was. The blade resting behind his feet on the ground, he had no need to draw it. This was after all only the beginning. He spoke in a voice that captured everyone’s attention below and quieted the crowd of a couple thousand people. “Hello and welcome to the Joker Games I am the Game Master, but you may refer to me as Joker. Allow me to explain the rules.” With that he stepped off the edge of the building and let himself slowly descend to the ground while he talked. It was easier to be there for the initial moment because otherwise people got loud. He explained on the way down to save some time. “Each of you is being given a card which represents what type of abilities you shall be given for this game. There are four different types and the ranking is similar to that of a playing card. Everyone starts at two. To advance you must kill monsters or other plays to collect crystals.” He felt his feet hit the ground, the crowd in a semi-circle around him with the building to his back. “Any questions?” he asked. A few people who noticed their cards started yelling. “Why the fuck do we have to do this!?” “Why should we listen to you?” “Send us home already!” He just stared at the people bored and with a sigh put a charming smile on his face moving his arm so the blade on his scythe was out. “If you want to leave you have to kill me, so anyone who wishes to complain can come at me.” He said it calmly. He could see a few people laugh, no doubt thinking he was crazy. A whole mob of them versus him, if only they understood how unfairly balanced this fight was at how much of a disadvantage they were at, but he said nothing and let the first few charge. With a flick of the wrist all those who charged were sliced in half. The blood and bodies now trash at his feet. This scared people and angered others. How boring and normal this had all become to him...

A few more people had challenged him and met with their deaths, but that was it. The rest had gained some wits about them and retreated, forming alliances and finding shelter and food. No one wanted to admit they were playing along, but many seemed to realize how crucial it was for them to play the game if they wished to go home. Joker sighed and looked at the bodies at his feet. They’d make a nice treat for the first few who lost it and went after anything they could get. There was food in this little world, but whether people could find it or not was left to chance. Joker let his scythe disappear and headed back into the building he had jumped off of. He didn’t need to watch at the moment, the people would have about an hour to move about before the first swarm would appear. They should enjoy the small moment of rest they were being given to adjust. It was through his short walk into the building he noticed it. An odd door decorated unlike the rest. It wasn’t the door out of the game and back to his office with the other jokers (who made it their business to not attend the first day) and it didn’t seem to have any purpose. “I wonder what that’s doing here.” He asked himself curiously. He waved his hand to try and do something to it. Open it, make it vanish, see where it went. Nothing. When the curiosity became too much and gnawed at his curiosity he did what any curios person would do. He opened the door and ventured inside. Little did he know the door was now locked behind him, until the little click sounded and he had nowhere to go but forward.

He walked along what seemed like a dark tunnel until he appeared out in a thick forest. It was nowhere like where he had been and it didn’t seem to be Earth. Mostly because the bark on the trees was a dark blue, the leaves were neon green, the grass was pink, the water was orange and the sun looked purple. Earth may have changed a bit over the years when he caught brief glances before taking people, but he was fairly certain nothing this extreme had really happened to the environment. He glanced behind him and saw why the place he had been seemed dark. He had wandered out of a tunnel in a giant mushroom with an orange top. “I wonder where I am…” he could only ask himself curiously before a childish smile appeared on his face. “Guess I just have to explore!” and with that he started walking across the light pink grass and deeper into the forest. Never forgetting his position, but unworried about what laid ahead of him.

"Why did Mr.Kris have to give us this huge project on the last week of school?"

Riley sighed, grabbing another book from the town library's non-fiction shelf. She flipped through it, cursing under her breath as she realized that it was useless to her. Closing it, she shoved it away from her, disturbing a blank piece of paper and causing it to slip to the ground. With another curse Riley bent over and retrieved it, turning her head as she came back up to look at the clock. It was almost dinner time. She had to get home! But she hadn't even started...And she only had three more days to complete a five-page paper and oral speech.

"Something is seriously wrong with that man!" She said, opening another book in a desperate attempt to find something she could write down. Mr.Kris only assigned this project because he was retiring this year, and moving clear across the country. He was getting his revenge and wouldn't have to deal with angry students the next year. Lucky bastard. Riley sighed, leaning back in her chair and rubbing her forehead. Oh well. Best to cut her losses and just check the most promising books out, maybe do some research online after dinner, as all the library computers were either already taken or broken. Gathering her things, the seventeen year old grabbed one last book from the shelf, which was fairly large and thick. She struggled to the check-out counter, dumping the five books on the fake-wood surface. The librarian at the other side of it had a bored look etched on her aging face, her hands slow as they scanned the books and took Riley's library card as it was offered.

"These will be due on the 20th," she said in a voice that made it clear that she was a heavy smoker. She coughed a bit as she turned to the register, cursing as the small machine at the side of it failed to print out the reciept, which would also serve as the reminder of the date the books were due. "I'll be back," the woman said before turning and disappearing into the back room to grab another roll of paper.

Riley sighed, feeling a bit impatient. She glanced around, taking in the poorly painted walls and stained carpet. Oh...Wait...She turned her head again, finding a strange door that was coming out of the side of one of the shelves. What a weird place for a door, and it clearly wasn't decoration, what with the shiny hinges attached to it. And she hadn't noticed it before. No one noticed it. She looked towards the back room, seeing that the old librarian was still rummaging around for a roll of reciept paper. It wouldn't hurt to just have a close, quick look, right?

Upon stepping up to it, she saw that it was made of exotic wood that appeared to shine. Her fingers ran along one of the grooves, her eyes admiring the smooth surface. Eventually, her curiosity got the best of her, and she tried the knob. To her utter surprise, it actually turned and the door opened. Before she knew it, Riley was plunged into darkness, a small light appearing at the end of what seemed to be a tunnel. She blinked at the sight she came across.

    "What...the hell?"

Pink grass, blue trees, green leaves...? Oh, and orange water. She heard the sound of a crashing waterfall, and of course the water was orange there, too. She turned to see that she had come out of a double-headed, giant mushroom. "The fuck...Did I fall into a Dr.Suess book?" She thought for a moment. "Oh crap! I'm on acid! Damn you, Mike and your damn drugs!" Turning, she saw that the door had vanished. Riley roughly ran her hands through her hair. Oh well. Best thing to do was to go on and wait for the surpisingly realistic acid trip to fade away. She sighed and began to walk through the thick forest, incredibly confused by everything she saw.

Joker had wandered towards the water and was following is downstream for a long while or so it felt. There wasn’t much to do, the water remained orange, but that didn’t seem to stop creatures from drinking it. He was tempted to try it, but considered waiting to see another person to drink it before trusting the odd water unless it was dire that he drink it. “No need to kill myself early,” he thought. He stopped when he realized the river fell downwards into a waterfall. He glanced down but nothing seemed to be too different. There were still giant mushrooms protruding from the ground in small clumps near the trees and the grass was still a light pink that reached the ankles when you walked. He had inspected some of the trees out of curiosity, when the dark blue bark was stripped away the blue color became lighter, almost like the sky back home. A bush rustled a little further back and he paused to watch a creature very similar to a rabbit scurry out. It was only similar because its eyes were red, it had small feathery wings on its back, sharp claws on its paws and the tail was much bigger. It was still cute, but a little more deadly. He watched for a moment as it lapped up the water. It spotted him and started growling in his direction. It crouched as if to spring and kill him, but Jasper shrugged it off. Where could he go from here? The rocks of the cliff he was on were a purple color, and while it clashed horribly with the river he was able to see what was down below rather easily.

There was some land at the edge of the water that he could jump down to, but that was assuming all his powers worked here. He knew the worlds were a little weird with abilities and it depended mostly on if the world was created with an all governing power policy and limiter. He could choose the safer route and climb down or find another path, but really what fun was that? Besides if he slowly descended he could see what the area below looked like with a birds eye view and would still be able to follow the water towards a town. Assuming the people in this place relay on the rivers here that is. The growling continued behind him and there were a few small paw steps towards him, but he thought nothing of it and walked right off the cliff to descend. He went at a normal pace so gauge the gravity of the place, but it seemed rather similar if not identical to his own and the slow descent of his body seemed normal. If nothing else he could get around this world by floating up and down cliff sides. He bent his knees slightly when he landed and looked at the surrounding area. Not much at really changed from what was above. “KKKKKKKKH!” a high pitch hiss whistle sounded again. Joker turned to see what was making so much noise and saw the rabbit creature from early swooping down towards him in fury. “I don’t have time for you,” Joker said stepping to the side and watching the small creature face plant into the ground without much grace. “See, you hurt yourself. Now shoo! Go run along,” Joker said in a rather bored tone. He wasn’t in the mood to fight things he just wanted to explore for a bit. The rabbit thing clearly didn’t want to listen to him since it sprung to attack him again. With another side-step the creature flew straight into a tree. I feel like I’m just bullying it now…Joker thought watching the strange creature. The act of him dodging didn’t seem to occur to it at all since it kept charging and face planting. “What a strange creature,” the little rabbit had sheathed its claws and was rubbing its face which had a few twigs on it. The small bits of dirt caught in its face. It looked pretty peaceful at the moment, so Joker took this as a chance to start walking away. “kkkkkkkkkh!” the small creature whined and stopped cleaning its face to hop after him. Yes hop, it could have flown, but it chose to hop. If it weren’t for the fact he just saw it attack him he might have thought it was just an innocent creature. “Shoo!” he said again followed with the gesture. The bunny creature hopped closer. He felt his eye twitching at the creatures odd behavior. First it was to harm him and now its following him? When does that ever make sense? He sighed. Ignoring the creature he continued his walk down the river. “kkkkkkkkkkh!” the rabbit creature whined again, instead this time jumping onto his head. “kkkkkkkh!” it mewled happily. “What the!?” Joker said feeling the weight on his head now. “I’m not a transportation service!” he muttered. He tried to nudge the thing off, but it simply moved around his head and in one case kicked his hand. “Fine, stay there!” he said with a glare at nothing in particular. He continued walking, trying to ignore the fluff that was now atop his head.

Riley cussed loudly as a branch covered in sharp-edged leaves struck her in the face. She had gone in deeper and deeper, coming to a part of the woods that hardly had any space between the trees. She could no longer hear the waterfall, suddenly realizing that she should have followed the river. Perhaps she could have come across some sort of town. But no. She had to go in deeper and get smacked in the face by a stupid branch. She slapped it away from her, cursing again, not bothering to hide her foul language. A few minutes after walking off she had finally gotten the fact that she wasn't on any drugs. This was really happening. It sunk in even further, and she made an irritated sound. Seriously, she wouldn't mind tripping out on acid at this point. At least then she would eventually come out of it on her own...Not be lost and horribly confused with every little thing around her.

She stopped suddenly as she caught sight of a clearing, the trees thinning out a bit. She sighed in slight relief, walking towards it then stopping as she noticed the four-legged figure right in the center. Ducking behind a pink and red bush, she saw that it was...A deer? Although it was a faded purpleish color, its antlers light brown and speckled with black and red spots, it was every bit as graceful as a normal deer. It grazed seemingly peacefully, completely unaware of her presence. At first, it was a comforting sight, something that was remotely familiar. She watched as it twitched its ears, hearing something that she couldn't, raising its head. She held her breath as it took a step back, a strange growling sound emitting from it.

A creature that appeared to be canine in origin emerged from another bush, its medium-sized paws walking lightly on the pink grass. The deer-like creature growled much more loudly, causing the canine to flick its ears back and freeze. Everything stopped. After a long pause, both animals burst into action, the deer dashing towards the canine as it tried to go back through the thorn-filled bushes. But it wasn't fast enough, and the deer caught it by the tail, dragging it back.

Riley watched in horror as nature was reversed. The deer made quick work of the canine, which obviously served as its lunch as it tore open the pelt and began to eat. Her mouth hung open and her stomach churned. Instantly, she moved away from the scene, not wanting to be the deer's dessert, and turned around. Maybe this time she'd follow the river. Whatever. She just wanted to get out of there.

There was a lot of walking Joker had to do which was worse than anything else. His scythe had gotten heavy so he turned it back into a playing card that had a joker on it and hid it. If you hadn’t known any better he would have just looked like a weird kid walking around with a deranged bunny sitting no his shoulder/head and occasionally growling and running off into a bush and coming back with dead animals to eat. He would have found it peculiar if this wasn’t another world. “Now, now Fyfe if you keep running off to hunt food I’m just going to leave you here!” Joker warned after stopping again to see if the rabbit thing would actually return again. It always did and he really wasn’t sure why. “kkkkkkh!” the rabbit looked up at him innocently waving it’s elongated tail in the air happily as it finished eating and hopped back onto his head. “Odd little creature, it’s probably using me as a cab service or something of the sort so it doesn’t have to walk. Smart, but not particularly nice. Oi! Did you forget I could kill you,” Joker said slightly pouty and poking the rabbit thing with a finger, trying to knock it off. He felt like bullying it a bit since he was bored. He only had it for company and it was lousy company at that. “Kkkkkkkh!” it whined and moved away from his finger trying to find a grip on any other part of his head of shoulders to avoid it. “Hmph, don’t think you’re getting away that easily.” Joker said pushing it a little roughly when it decided to sit on the back of his neck. He felt the weight fall of and in surprise looked at the ground. The small creature fell and used its wings to land right, but it looked a little teary eyed. “Can rabbits even cry? Then again you aren’t a normal rabbit.” Joker mused crouching down and observing the strange creature yet again as he had been doing for quite a while now. The rabbit must have taken this as him apologizing because it scampered closer and tried to run up his arm to his head again. Joker caught it between his hands and held there for a bit. “What do you think you’re doing? This isn’t a free ride service!” he said looking the rabbit in the eye as if it really could speak English. “Kkkh!” the rabbit thing wiggled trying to get free and climb up again. “Hmph,” Joker let go and the rabbit, which landed on the ground easily before climbing back onto his head.

“What is with your odd obsession of sitting on my head? I’ve pushed you, poked you, and even threatened to slice you and yet you still stay on my head. Is cruelty kindness here or something?” Joker asked. He was talking to the rabbit thing, he knew it wouldn’t respond, but it was something to do. Besides his voice might just draw someone out and that would be infinitely more amusing that just walking! “Then again that wouldn’t surprise me at all since this world is already messed up.” He continued with a sigh and shrug exaggerated for the fun of it. He went to poke the things nose this time, but it ducked and bit his finger. “Ow!” Joker said yanking it sharply out of the rabbit’s mouth. There were two little holes that bled a bit from the bite. “Fine, I won’t jab you anymore,” Joker said annoyed. He liked the rabbit better when it just took his teasing. It wasn’t as much fun if it was going to fight back seriously instead of just wiggling around. The rabbit messed up his hair a bit as it repositioned itself on his shoulder and got comfortable. “What a strange thing you are,” Joker said again glancing at the water and spotting his reflection glancing back at him. The rabbit was mostly hidden since it occupied his left shoulder and the river was on his right. It looked like he had an odd white thing hanging out the back of his shirt instead of a tail hanging down his back. The rabbit’s ears twitched up slightly when he moved his head so the reflection in the water looked as if it had ears. “Hmmm,” Joker said glancing at the reflection with more interest. The rabbit moved so its front paws were on his head. It stared at the reflection in the water with him for a while before losing interest and moving back down onto his shoulder. “How much longer till we see a town?” Joker asked aloud to his reflection glancing up and seeing nothing but more trees all around. “How boring…” he complained.

Following the river, Riley did her best to forget the disturbing scene she had just witnessed. After a while, she became increasingly glad that the deer hadn't noticed her and took chase. Eventually, she passed the part of the forest that she had originally entered in, choosing not to linger. The river shrunk a bit, the bank clear of any trees or bushes so she walked by the edge of the water. She would occasionally glance down at the surface, glad that at least one thing was the same, save for the orange hue the water gave her reflection. Her ears perker up as she heard something...A voice? A male voice.

She stopped for a moment and looked around, trying to pinpoint the location it was coming from. It sounded like it was ahead of her. She narrowed her eyes, spotting a figure a good distance from where she was at the other side of the river. And it looked like another person! Even if he was from this screwed up place, at least he wasn't a carnivorious deer. Well, she hoped so, anyway. Riley quickened her pace, closing the space between them until they were right across from each other. She tilted her head curiously, seeing the rabbit-like creature on his shoulder. Was that why he was talking? Whatever...Worked for her.

"Hey!" she called out, desperately wanting to get his attention.

Joker glanced across the river to see someone shouting. “Ah, a person,” Joker said to the little rabbit. He looked across the river and saw a girl standing there trying to get his attention. He could respond and keep yelling across the river, but that was no fun. He took a step towards the bank and jumped slightly so he could float over to the other side. He landed gracefully in front of the girl on the opposite side of the river. “Who are you?” He asked curiously. He hadn’t seen any people near-by so it was a nice change of pace to talk to a human. Better yet, one who wasn’t in the mood to kill him if he thought back to his own world with all the angry people there. Joker heard a growling and saw the little rabbit thing on his shoulder growling at the girl, it sounded similar to when it decided to attack him and it looked like after it had fell and gotten up for the second attack. “KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKH!” the rabbit growled. Joker looked at it for a moment before putting his hand over its face. He was curious what would happen. The rabbit’s tail when from fluffed up and in the air to down by his shoulder like normal. It was whining again and trying to nose Joker’s hand off. “I think I embarrassed it…” Joker said blinking at the small creature on his shoulder. The rabbit kept pushing against his hand, but he didn’t move it. “Kkkkkkh!” the rabbit tried to push against the hand again, but seeing it wouldn’t move the rabbit retreated onto Jasper’s head and sulkily behaved, no longer growling. “Such a violent little rabbit it is,” Joker said shrugging casually.

Joker glanced back at the girl. “So are you from this world?” Joker asked. He was looking at the weird things again, he couldn’t imagine living here, but he supposed for those who already did it was normal. It was only odd because he was used to vegetation in different colors and orange water usually meant something was wrong and not to drink it. That and mushrooms weren’t the size of houses and doors didn’t randomly appear in life. Hmm… yep this place was definitely a little odd. It was a nice odd since it was a bit refreshing, but if this was all there was to this world, and then it would just be remarkably dull. He wanted to get walking again and find a town, but first things first. He refocused his attention back onto the girl and watched for some reaction of speech to indicate she had heard him.

Riley looked at him in awe, watching as he moved across the river, floating. How the hell was he doing that? Besides the orange color, it seemed to be normal water...So it much have been by his own ability. But before she could say anything about it, she was distracted by the strange rabbit creature. She too ka step back, suddenly remembering the deer and canine. Creatures who would otherwise be harmless on Earth were vicious and deadly here. Well, at least that's how to seemed to her. When he managed to calm it down she let out a relieved breath and took a small step towards him. She glanced up at the animal, taking in its appearance. It was sort of cute...In a psychotic way.

"Umm...No. I'm from Earth. What aout you?" She tilted her head curiously. He seemed like he would fit well in this world, what with the floating. And he even made friends with one of the inhabitants. But she played it safe and asked, not wanting to offend him by assuming that he came from such a weird world.

“No I’m not from around here, I was hoping you were,” Joker sighed slightly dejected. There went his hope of having a tour guide to take him around and point out all the strange things in this world. “I’m from Earth too, I just don’t occupy the same space you do when there,” he said. He wasn’t sure how best to describe it, but technically the dimension where he was from overlapped Earth and without getting too in-depth about it, it was the best explanation he could give. He could feel the rabbit still sulking on his head though and after a moment he felt its ears lift off his head. Joker blinked before looking at his reflection in the water. It looked like he had rabbit ears almost, it was a little odd, but it didn’t mean he didn’t look good with rabbit ears. Wait, this wasn’t the time to be distracted. The girl had said she was from Earth which probably meant she didn’t have any powers or abilities to use here, which meant she was weaker than the rabbit sulking on his head. And that was a very sad thing to be here it seemed, especially if rabbits were this strong here. He saw the rabbit move towards his ear and watched it through the water curiously; it took him a moment to realize it just licked his ear. “What the?” Joker said making a grab for the rabbit to get it away from his ear. The rabbit gave off a devilishly-happy “kkkkkkkkkkkh!” before jumping and flapping its wings. Joker glared at the rabbit and he saw it glare back almost with a smile on its face. “I think that rabbit just gave me a wet willy!” Joker said his eye twitching slightly. Joker stood and went to grab the rabbit, but it seemed to be more on its toes than last time and flew straight towards the girl, tucking its wings in and crawling onto her shoulder and nuzzling in there acting all innocent and adorable. “Don’t move, I’m killing the rabbit,” Joker said with an angry glare. He took out the playing card with a joker on it and let it turn back into a scythe. He took a well-aimed hit at the rabbit as a diagonal cut so he didn’t behead the girl and saw the rabbit’s eyes widen in fear as it just barely dodged. “kkkkkkh!” the rabbit whined in a panic. It hopped closer to the girl’s leg as if she was supposed to protect it from this mad man. Joker looked at the girl, “Surrender the rabbit,” he said. He still looked pretty mad. The rabbit tried to make a cute face before jumping straight towards his face. Joker dodged by moving slightly. “Not hiding anymore?” Joker asked still plenty annoyed at the weird creature. The rabbit flapped quickly to make a sharp turn and jumped onto his shoulder and tried to act cute by nuzzling his neck and ear. Joker sighed in annoyance. “Stupid fluff ball,” he complained with a sigh. He let the anger leave his face, but he was still pretty annoyed. He let the scythe turn back into a card again since the rabbit was behaving, but he really wondered if he shouldn’t just make life that much easier and kill it. But then things would be dull and boring. He should see if the girl was interesting before he started killing off his playmates. He turned to look at the girl. “Who are you anyway?” he asked curiously blinking and looking her over in a more childish manner than perverted. It was more like a child looking at another child in curiosity than a teenager checking out another teenager. Joker could feel the rabbit on his shoulder turn its head towards the girl too. He wouldn’t be surprised if it were curious about her too and wait! He still hadn’t extracted his revenge and he was letting the rabbit sit on his shoulder. Joker pushed his hand back towards the rabbit and pushed it off his shoulder. “Kkkkkkkkkkkkkh!” the rabbit whined in surprise, flapping its wings so it landed on its feet. The small creature looked slightly annoyed and climbed back onto Joker’s shoulder stubbornly and setting its paws so as to not be knocked off so easily.

Riley was clearly surprised, not knowing what to do when the rabbit sat on her shoulder. She shut her eyes tight when he swung his sythe, biting her lip when she realized that it didn't slice her. Looking down, she couldn't help but feel sorry for the rabbit. And a little fearful of the guy. Once it was all settled, she sighed in relief, glad that she didn't have to witness another gruesome death. "I'm Riley," she said, eyeing him. What was this guy? He appeared human, but he acted strange, and had strange abilities. Though she decided not to question it, at least not at that moment.

"And, uhh...Who are you?" She tilted her head curiously, then turned her gaze on the rabbit. "And your friend."
