The Body In The Ditch - A Murder Mystery (Hashi & Manic)

A body of a girl has been found in a drainage ditch in a sleepy little town, an obvious case of foul play. Detective Locke DeCine has caught the case, but he has so few leads to go on the case seems destined to be just another cold file left on a shelf. That is until Locke runs into Allison Brimley, a girl with a strange gift who just may be the key to cracking this case wide open.

This is the OOC thread for The Body In The Ditch. It will be used as a point of reference for characters, NPC's, locations and anything else Hashi and Manic need it for.

Locke is 6'0" and a lean 195lbs. Having once been a lanky awkward teenager, Locke has finally grown into his arms and legs, although he's still not the most coordinated man ever. He has brown hair that is kept a little long and a little shaggy. He has deep blue eyes. When on duty he wears a suit, usually black or dark grey, and a tie. When he's not on duty, Locke favors jeans and t-shirts with prints referencing video games or geek pop-culture.

Occupation: Detective of the Stoneyvale Police Department

Personality: Locke is the thinking type. He generally has no problem talking with people when its in regards to an investigation. However, outside his duties as a cop, he sometimes can come across as a little awkward or uncertain. Locke truly is a geek under the suit which often surprises those who don't know him very well. He enjoys video games and sci-fi.

History/Info: Locke was born in Boston, MA and lived there with his strict mother until adolescence when they moved to Manchester and in with Locke's even stricter grandmother. In a fit of young adult rebellion, Locke joined the Manchester Police Force and his mother stopped talking to him. Despite having joined only to spite his mother and grandmother, Locke soon found that police work suited him. His superiors were impressed with him and he became one of the youngest detectives in the department at the age of 24. He'd only been a detective for a little more than a year when his partner unexpectedly committed suicide. It wasn't long after that when he was transferred from Manchester to Stoneyvale.

Occupation: She works in the back of Acacia Bakery, owned by her sort-of-friend Mary. She arrives early in the morning and spends her working days baking, something she has always loved to do. Breads, muffins, cookies, pastries - anything she can make, she does. Mary enjoys not having to knead dough anymore - it's difficult with her arthritis, and has a fondness for the strange girl, who seems to have no friends.

History: Allison doesn't know anything about her real family. She grew up in an orphanage and various foster homes, though the families never kept her for long. Three months was her record, a nice woman who taught piano and her computer programmer husband. Unfortunately, the man had started cheating on his wife, and Allison hadn't known exactly what she was seeing, being only seven. Her inquires had ended with her back in St. Agnes, where she spent her time hiding from the other children.

At thirteen, Allison wandered into the kitchen one day trying to escape the other children. The cook, a burly woman named Gerty, caught her and told her that if she was going to be in the kitchen, then she'd better be working. So, she worked. Gerty taught her how to cook and bake and Allison found a small amount of comfort in a otherwise dismal place. The woman never touched her, a trued relief, and barely even spoke unless it was to instruct her.

She tried to find out once where she came from, when she was seventeen, but the only lead she'd found had turned out to be a dead end. She'd seen the memories of the nurse who'd found her, watched as she stepped outside the hospital for a smoke break and been drawn into the parking lot by the crying of an abandoned baby. Whoever her mother was, it was obvious she hadn't wanted Allison. When she'd found Stoneyvale a year before she'd been relived. Finally, there was a chance for her to live a normal life - or, at least as normal a one as she could - and leave her past behind.

Allison spent months searching for a place to call home, and when she finally came across Stoneyvale, it had been a relief. Finally, there was a place where she could start a new life - there was even an add in their local paper for a baking assistant! It was perfect.

Personality: Allison is a loner. She tries not to be a complete recluse, but she has trouble controlling her abilities and it can make having friends hard. Even in a quiet town like Stoneyvale her only sort of friend is her boss, Mary.

Ability: Allison's ability lets her see into the minds of people around her, though it's not mind reading. She gets images, not words. If the person is thinking something strongly, she doesn't even have to touch them. She can also get images from objects or entire rooms if there is an imprint of a highly emotional event on it, like murder. She has a hard time keeping other people's memories out, and often finds herself caught in disaster when she steps into a room or finds an imprinted object. Her lack of control over her ability has lead to habits like hair pulling when she's being bombarded. She struggles to keep the images away, but she's only able to keep them from completely overwhelming her, not block them out completely.
