    Demonbane Chapter One: Overrun

So, i'm wanting to make a sort of high fantasy RP set in a world that has been nearly overrun by demons, with mankind about to lose the fight for dominance until you, the heroes, are granted abilities beyond those of mere mortals to turn the tide of war. Any input you have, feel free to post.

    ___________________

Your world has always been one of war. Kings and emperors have fought for land, resources, and ideals. You yourself may have been a part of one or more of these conflicts, fighting alongside your brothers in arms for a cause determined by those above you. Although these wars have always been bloody, they have always had a common factor that makes them in many ways predictable and therefore controllable. They have all been orchestrated by humans whose lust for power and wealth could be, at least momentarily, sated. And thus tenuous peace would follow until a new conflict arose.

But your world is in the midst of a new kind of war. One that transcends the terrestrial boundaries of men. Your enemy is not some high and mighty Duke or King, out to stuff his coffers or expand the reach of his control, but a force whose agenda is as primal as it comes. Your enemy wishes to feed, to burn, to destroy. You fight a war against demons.

Several months ago, in an area known as the True Barrens, an unknown force ripped through the fabric of the world and opened a portal to another realm. The few men brave enough to regularly travel through the Barrens, for they were widely regarded as cursed, had barely enough time to sprint to the nearest points of habitation before the horde broke through. Thousands upon thousands of grotesque creatures spewed forth from the opening and began to engulf the land. In their wake nothing stood but the ruins of castles, and all was set ablaze and left to turn to ash.

Individual nations tried to quell the onslaught themselves at first, but each army that was mobilzed against the demon horde was vanquished no matter how mighty their warriors or how numerous their forces. It soon became clear that if the demon menance was to be fought, all of humanity must band together. And so Kingdoms desolved, Empires disbanded, and all men were equal in the face of this new threat. An army was formed, one so enormous that its ranks could form a barrier across the continent five men thick. They fortified existing keeps and equipped them with as many catapults and ballistae as they could build. Their encampments formed a border at which they intended to stop the Horde once and for all.

And they did, for a time. But the Horde was restless and their losses began to pile up. Desperation was in the heart of every human by this point, and they had nowhere to turn for the power to win this war. Nowhere, that is, but for the heavens. One night, just as the first signs of Spring were beginning to appear, a truly miraculous thing happened. Every human, every single soul on the entire continent, uttered a prayer. It was to no being in particular, as their beliefs were varied and often conflicting, it was a simple, pleading phrase: "Save us."

On that night, five pillars of light broke through the sky. Their radiance was mesmerizing, and where their blue glow struck the earth any demons within fifty yards evaporated. But it was not the demons that was their target. It was five humans. The glow struck them, and it changed them. They became stronger, faster, more resilient. And each of them emerged from the light brandishing a weapon that shone with the same blue light that had engulfed them.

They had been chosen. Chosen by a power that had heard their plea and decided to give mankind a fighting chance in this war. They had become Light Bringers, Demon Slayers, Gods of War. They had become Demonbane. And it was time for them to reclaim their world.

    You are they.

    ________

    Bio Sheet:

    Name:

Age: (Minimum 16. No maximum as long as it is within the human norm)

    Appearance: (Pics accepted)

Personality: (No need for great detail here)

    Demonbane Weapon:

    Power:

    History:

    ________
You would start this RP at the moment that your character is struck by the light. You might be fighting amidst the Horde, you might be asleep in your cot within a keep, your might be sitting by the fire in a cottage in the woods, terrifyed that one day the Horde might overcome the army and destroy your little home. For the sake of convenience, you will all be with a range of, say, fifty miles of each other. So that you would be able to find each other rather quickly, either by chance or design.

You can choose the sort of weapon you are granted and also one magical ability. Your magic would start out relatively weak, and grow with practice. However, your enhanced speed, strength, and the inherent magic of your Demonbane weapon will inatantly make you a thing to be feared on the battlefield.

I'm interested. But I am wondering why every person here feels the need to put a wall of text as the intro to the interest check. Nothing drives people away like walls of text.

Because I was going to simply post this as an OOC but decided to get an interest check first. I would assume that happens with a lot of people, and therefore walls of text.

Also, tl;dr shouldn't exist on a forum based around writing. xD

Oh, I read it. And I'm not saying it was bad or anything. But sometimes I open up a thread out of curiosity, see a wall of text, then my brain and mouse hand go "Nope."

I like the sound of this, interested
Loss is acceptable, failure is not.

Seems like a cool idea, what kind of control over where our characters come from would we have, in terms of making a nation for them?
"We will not go quietly into the night... We will go screaming into the night, bathed in flame and shooting lightning from our hands, riding dragons made of fear and wearing armour with neon flashing lights."

There is no where in this sig where this makes sense, so I'll put it here:

    As created by JDH97:

You can have complete control over that, as long as they don't come from Atlantis it should be just fine. Since all nations have since collapsed, whatever you decide to come up with can fit into the story just fine.

First post edited to include character sheet.
