Uncovering The Mysteries Within

In the year 2056, life for man changed. He was able to go to Mars and the Moon, and set up colonies. With this new gateway to resources man suddenly had no reason to stay on Earth. There were so many options now, so many places to go. The rich wanted their own resorts in space, the poor wanted to go up there at least once, and signed up for manual labor on the new projects. This was the new economic boom Earth needed, and a new Golden Age for Humanity. However there were still some on Earth who feared this new age, and some who wondered about other life out there.

As the year 2100 came, it was announced that a brand new kind of ship was being produced, it could go out of the solar system, there were a lot of problems with its development, and it was said that bad luck would follow it. It was finally built in 2115, and after 4 years of testing, it was being sent out to explore the space beyond the Milky Way.

It was the ESS (Earth Space Ship) Bates, named after the man who had developed most of the technology being used on board. The people who were to crew it had needed to be the very best. The waiting list for the crew had numbered several hundred thousand, and for a ship that would carry 25 Officers, 150 crewmen, and 36 scientists, competition was tough. The Captain was to be the famous Jack D Roberts, the man who had single handedly stopped the Triton Revolution 8 years previously.

Those who were to work on board the Bates were finally decided, and to each this was probably the most important moment of their lives. They would be the first, going places no human had ever gone.

S.A.L or Sentient. Artificial. Life. was to be the most important change to the Bates. It was the most advanced of its kind, and had been programed to run the Bates on its own if required. On a mission of such scientific importance, the crew must have the best. It contained everything every recorded for the crew to read, and could use this knowledge to come up with its own ideas. In short, you had all of the genius of Earth packed into a portable machine.

Jack sat in the captains chair, now was to be the most important moment of all, the Bates was ready to depart the ISP (International Space Port) and go into brand new waters. Jack watched as his bridge crew did their amazing work, each one fully competent and less likely to make a mistake then a baby was to read Shakespeare.

His heart raced as reality came to him, he was going out there, how could anyone dream of anything else? People said that being in the air was fun, but they had no idea about space. There aren't any living creatures out there, only your ship, vast regions of beauty, and nothingness. Jack was a man who believed in God, and now he felt that he was fulfilling Gods greatest desire! Mankind was becoming something great, the quality of life was increasing. Everything was better then he had ever hoped.

Now the Bates began to move slowly away from the ISP on thruster power only, it was a slow and meticulous process, any mistake would cost them. The hardest part was making it away from anything else which might be harmed as they activated their Jello Drive (don't ask about why it is called Jello, no one knows). Anything close by them could vanish forever, and that had happened in the early days of space travel, more then anyone would admit.

The Bates turned around on its course, minimal power for now. "Helmsman- Captain, set course and make engines to 1/3rd power. "

"Captain- Helmsman, Aye sir! Course set, engines at 1/3rd power. She is handling like a beauty sir.

Jack pressed a button on his chair, his voice would now be carried along the entire ship, this was the moment many had been waiting for and all work stopped, everyone was silent for these moments.

"This is Captain Roberts speaking, we are now clear of the ISP, and have begun our journey. In a few hours we will arrive at our first destination. I wish you all the best of luck on our journey, make Earth proud!" He ended the transmission.

"First Officer- Captain, you have the conn"

"Captain- First Officer, I have the conn, aye sir. Enjoy your sleep, this ship is safe in my hands."

The ESS Bates was on its way to a planet just outside the solar system, recently discovered. There they would take pictures and plant the Earth Federation flag, little did they know that they would never arrive.

I am the GM, I will guide your characters through the unknown spaceship that you will soon see, what you do with the information I provide is up to you, however anything can happen so think before you act. If you make a bad choice you will get hurt or die. If you make a good choice you might find out one of the ships many secrets.

I will play some NPCs, the S.A.L computer, and possibly others. The Captain has little use in the RP so I will play as him if needed, anyone else on the ship is up to you, first come first serve.

Death will happen, if you have a major problem with your character being hurt or dying please don't join, you can make more then one character if you wish, however after a while there will be a cutoff of who can join. The people who land are the only ones able to be used.

Story So Far-

ESS Bates leaves ISP
ESS Bates comes across mysterious ship, names Point Alpha.
ESS Bates launches shuttle to board Point Alpha, 3 trips. The first flight is of engineers making an opening, the second the 45 man boarding party, 10 guards including Mike and Jennifer, 15 scientists including Leon, 10 tech people including James, 9 engineers including Jess, and the pilot Zack.


I will be updating this with more information as we go into the story.

Character Sheet:

Name: Leon Kafka

Age: 35 (Yes that's a little young, but I figure in this day and age, you can become a master in your trade early, and that point, the younger the better.)

Appearance: Tall, black hair, big bushy eyebrows. Wears a doctor's usual garb, unless not working and then he just wears fancy clothes (aka a suit's equivalent in this time period)

Personality: He's a doctor, but first and foremost he's a scientist. Saving lives on the operating table is important to him, but what's more important is figuring out the cure to cancer through science. Incredibly smart, he can problem solve quickly and efficiently. Years of doctoring have gave him good reflexes, a steady hand, and being able to think on his feet, which wasn't something he used to excel at. On the flip side however, he is a tad bit high and mighty. Quick to anger when fighting against stupidity, Leon can get condescending in a moment's notice. He doesn't generally have problems in social situations, although he isn't very empathetic.

Nationality: German descent. (Note: I speak only one word in German RL, which is "nien" so don't say anything in German, and I won't either. Also, my character does have a think accent, but I don't know how to type it out and I don't want to anyway, so just pretend I have one please :] )

Job on ship: Chief Medical Doctor, Chief Scientist on the field of medicine and human anatomy. Leon is first in line out of all the scientists to go out in the field because he has the most first-hand experience and is one of the most high ranking scientists (if somebody wants to play a scientist, you can be higher rank then me, otherwise my character will be higher.)

History: Leon studied from an early age to be a doctor like his father wanted. At the age of thirteen he could do heart surgery without trembling or having fear. At the age of eighteen he was one of the most successful doctors on Earth. Leon always wanted to study however, and after finishing school rather early in his life, Leon began to study. Publishing three separate essays, Leon started to become a prominent figure. Until today, where he's set off to head on a strange journey to the unknown.

Name: Mike Cleary

Age: 50

Appearance: A tall man, with grey hair, short and buzzed, and light stubble. His eyes are a piercing blue and he almost never smiles. His facial features are unremarkable and not very memorable, with the exception of prominent ears. Despite his age, Mike is a large and imposing man who keeps himself in shape. He is almost always wearing his black uniform.

Personality: Mike is single-minded in his maintainence of peace. He speaks bluntly and in as few words as necessary but is also sarcastic and has a dark sense of humor. Despite his willingness to venture into morally grey areas, Mike is also dedicated to his main job of making sure everyone is safe.

Nationality: American

Job on ship: Security officer

History: Having acquired a very particular set of skills from serving in the Army, Mike couldn't live a normal life when he was discharged and just couldn't finish his formal education or hold down a 9 to 5 job. His experiences made it so that he could only find employment in the private security industry. As the years passed, however, he found that his services were increasingly wanted by more high-profile and high-paying clients. His willingness to take on jobs that others might find morally reprehensible had given him a reputation for getting the job done at all costs. Unknown to many of his prospective clients at first, Mike willingly performs odd jobs as required, such as clean up for unexpected and undesirable situations...or people.

Name: James Matthewson

Age: 19

Appearance: James is a tall man, standing at around 6'4'', with dark brown hair, and bright green eyes. He has well-shapen features, which flow nicely into what most would call a fairly handsom face, with a strong jaw-line, mid-sized nose, and slightly angled mouth. A well-proportioned man, his arms and legs both seem to fit his frame quite nicely. He has long fingers, like those of a pianist, and slender hands. He has thin arms which, though aren't particularly muscular, are still fairly strong. His legs are slender as well, giving him an all-in-all outwardly pleasing appearance.

Personality: James is a sociable man, who enjoys idle chatter. Never a man to scorn time-wasting, he spends a great deal of time he could spend doing more productive things playing darts, or talking with the other crew members. He is fairly intelligent, and has a bit of a bloated ego, but doesn't let his ego stop him from asking questions. He greatly enjoys making others laugh, even at his own expense. He has sarcastic, deadpan humor, and has sometimes been told that it's hard to tell when he is or is not joking. He always tries to lighten situations for others, even at the gallows. All things considered, he is a friendly, humorous person, who enjoys the sound of his own voice, and the sound of other people laughing about it.

Job on ship: Computer technician (programing the computers and rebuilding them)

History: From a very young age, James loved computers. As a child, he seemed disinterested in the world, before his parents bought him an old, decrepit computer. They didn't want him, a child of only five years old, to have something he could accidentally destroy very easily. In a matter of weeks, all he did was use that computer, practically absorbing coding language after coding language. When he was headed to elementry school, his parents, fairly wealthy as they were, sent him to a school for gifted children. There, he enjoyed school, and learned to love learning. Everyone there was a lot like him; gifted with computers, and friendly. He made a great deal of friends, and soon was off to high-school. His parents sent him to a public school, hoping to get him some 'real world education'. At high-school, he was greatly abused for his skills at first, but it only drove him to succeed. He learned how to deal with bullies, and nice people, and every other kind of person, just to get what he wanted. And by the end of high school, he already had a job working with the Space Exploration company he is with today, and spends a very small portion of his time on the ship thinking up a new design for the computers. He much prefers darts, however.

Name: Zack Reynolds

Age: 22

Appearance: Standing at about 5"4' with blonde hair and blue eyes, Zack has a thin frame. Overall Zack is easily overlooked, with his small frame and his shy manner.

Personality: Zack is an idiot savant when it comes to flying. He struggles with social situations, and often s-stutters when he speaks. But he can plot a trajectory faster than even a computer can, it just comes to him naturally. His psychological profile was closely examined before he was selected to pilot the bates. He poses no danger to those around him, he's just awkward to talk to.

Nationality: Zack was born and raised on a colony on mars.

Job on ship: Pilot (of both the ship itself and any shuttles or landing modules.

History: Growing up, Zack's parents would often take him on business trips to earth with them because they could never find a babysitter that could watch him on mars. It was here on these trips that Zack discovered his love of space travel. Because his parents were so rich, they got some private flying lessons for Zack with a patient teacher. Zack graduated and got his licence without ever making a single mistake, or needing a computer to correct his course. He still hasn't screwed up behind the pilot's seat to this day.
