"WE ARE NOW ON RED ALERT, ALL CREW TO YOUR POSITIONS. WE ARE NOW ON RED ALERT, ALL CREW TO YOUR POSITIONS."
Jack rushed out of bed and quickly slipped into his uniform and hovered his hand over the the head gear button. All modern day space clothes were set up with such a device. It wouldn't stop a projectile, but it might just save your life in time to get to the real protective gear. What had happened while he had been sleeping. There was no change in the engines or he would have noticed, scratch that, the ship was slowing down, port thrusters going in reverse and starboard full ahead, had something popped in ahead of them? That would have been expected, although going to Red Alert just for that? What had been going on.
Jack pressed a button on his intercom after checking the time, it was almost watch-change, "Bridge- Captain, I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON WITH MY SHIP!"
"Captain- Bridge, Sir this is Ensign Soto, something unbelievable just happened sir, it appears that there is another ship directly in front of us, you won't believe it until you see it sir."
Another ship, unless something had gone wrong, they would have been halfway to the destination. Was this God at work? Had he come to reveal himself to them, to welcome them? Could this be a First Contact scenario? Jack rushed to get to the bridge.
The ship began to shake as the momentum was countered, inertial dampeners were kicking in. The ship rolled, anything that wasn't sealed down was thrown to the ground, it continued on for a few moments, whispers began to spread while the crew wondered what had happened.
"Attention on Deck" called the guard outside the bridge as the captain approached, his call as mandated by countless shipboard customs.
"As you were ... my god!" The captain said as he looked upon the main monitors. The thing was huge, it looked almost bigger then the moon, how could it be a ship, surely it was a sign from God! It was spherical in form, the outside appeared to be flawless, no sign of any human technology marking its perfect form. Had this been Jacks destiny all along?
"What is that thing, get me detailed scans right now" The captain called again, duty demanding him to put aside his faith and maintain the security of his ship.
"Sir, we can't get any scans of it, it doesn't even appear on our sensors. We would have hit it if it hadn't been for the computer. It shouldn't even exist." This was Ensign Soto talking.
"Well then, if the sensors say it doesn't exist, perhaps we should prove them wrong. Get a shuttle prepped and loaded, I want a team to get in there now and find out what the bloody thing is." Jack called, the situation ahead of him looking daunting. Surely it would take months to explore the ship, somehow it looked dead, no movement at all. 'If a ship had almost hit me I would be finding out what was on that ship, and yet there have been no signs that they even noticed, what is going on?' He was thinking to himself.
