Stand Together, Die Alone - WWII Nuclear Apocalypse

Set in an alternate history wherein the atomic bomb is invented and mass produced by a mercenary organization rather than the United States, the story revolves around the struggle for survival in a harsh world following a nuclear apocalypse.

June 22nd, 1944, inland France. In the midst of the Normandy Invasion, this mercenary army (simply known as "Armada") bombards German-occupied France with several atomic bombs, scattering Allied and Axis troops alike. Armada, having managed to remain under the radar up until this point, catches both sides completely off-guard, resulting in mass panic and total dissolution of any sense of order.

Both sides suffer extreme casualties as a result of the bombings and the resulting chaos -- only a small fraction of troops on each side manage to survive, but the odds are against them. Completely cut off from central command and lacking reinforcements, supplies, or a sense of direction, most of the survivors die in the ensuing nuclear fallout or succumb to the elements.

One month after the bombings, even fewer soldiers remain amongst the living, most having settled down in rural towns or villages that managed to avoid the destruction. One such town is the quaint village of Beliart, currently occupied by a mix of Axis troops of several different nationalities who managed to coexist with the natives. In exchange for food and housing, the Axis soldiers protect the Beliart from any hostile bands of survivors who may wish to move in and take over. They live in a tense peace, surviving day to day on the limited food available to them.

This all changes when a group of Allied survivors of various nationalities discovers the village. Battered, exhausted, and without any other options, it seems like they have no choice but to move into Beliart, either by force or on more peaceful terms. However, aside from the language barrier, both sides have obvious problems trusting each other for obvious reasons.

However, unbeknownst to the survivors and the townsfolk, Armada's ground forces advance closer to the village every day, picking off stragglers. Neither side stands a chance on their own, but together, the Allied and Axis survivors could defend Beliart. Only time will tell if the survivors will stand together, or die alone.

Players will have a choice of being part of one of three factions -- the Axis soldiers occupying Beliart, the Allied soldiers who discover Beliart, and the townsfolk of Beliart. The RP will be character focused -- I'm really looking characters with strong convictions and prejudices to create conflict within the group. What I do not want to see is a bunch of lovey-dovey, free-thinking soldiers who are more than willing to strike up an alliance without a second thought.

The Allied and Axis soldiers should be mortal enemies -- years of propaganda and fighting against them should definitely dissuade both sides from the idea of an alliance. Unity should not be achieved easily or smoothly. The RP begins as the Allied soldiers first discover Beliart. There won't be much time to relax, however -- Armada and other hostile survivor factions will be hot on their tails.

That about sums it up! Questions? Interest?

I will put myself forward as an Axis soldier, and possibly an allied if we are allowed more than one. Let me know.

I could play either side, but I think I'll take Axis.
