A world filled with an powerful energy called Mana, which nurtures life, and flows throughout the world.

It aligns itself with the Earth, changing it's attributes reflecting the elements:

In wet areas, it becomes of the Water Element.

In hot areas, Fire Element.

Breezy areas, Wind Element.

Earthy areas, Earth Element.

Areas radiant with energy, Light Element.

Areas devoid, Dark Element.

Mana of each element is found throughout the world.

Man found a way to harness this power, able to use it in a variety of ways, and able to manipulate the land around them as a tool. To use it as magics, and as weapons of war. Many more convient uses appeared as well. Channeled aquaducts, brilliant forges, light in the dark, an easier farm tool.

Many men became obsessed with gathering Mana, seeking it in it’s purest form, and dwelling among area’s of high Mana concentrations. However, their bodies were not accustomed to such harsh concentrations, and began to change, began to become dependent on the Mana, literally dying without it. They weren’t even human anymore, they became like demons, separate from their fellow man, and were called Dureva.

Over the centuries, Dureva and man seperated more and more, with intense hatred between the two, though little came of it as Dureva were unable to leave their lands, dependent on extremely concentrated doses of mana, of which only some corners of the earth could provide.

However, lately, something amiss seems to be in the world, the flow of Mana seems to be off. In areas where people are used to gathering it, it begins to thin rapidly. And across the map, Dureva start to invade villages, where it was thought they could not exist without mana.

Many fields once rich are becoming desolate. Wildlife in prosperous areas is disappearing, causing people to suffer.

Being have appeared, called Aihiki, who look like man, but unleash unparamount levels of chaos where they walk. They are walking natural disasters. As they travel, they scream for men to stop their madness.

Beforehand, Aihiki had been rare sightings, with no harm with their wake. They were symbols of many religions, as a part of the earth, sentient protectors. Now, their powers now are unleashed not to protect man, but seemingly to destroy it. Whats worse is they come out of nowhere, and disappear into nowhere.

Humans- Playable
Most common race is man. They use Mana as tools and fuel for their arts, such as magicks, but also in everyday life. Man seeks Mana in abundance to sustain their lifestyle.

They use Mana as an external source, for their magicks and tools

Dureva-Playable
Called demons by many people. Originally man, their exposure to intense concentrations of Mana has changed their bodies, increased their lifespan, but has made them dependent on Mana to live. Without concentrated Mana surrounding them, they quickly wither and die. Mana is like water to them.

Despite their dependence on it, they do not use Mana beyond sustaining themselves. The heavier the concentrations of Mana they live in, the less human they normally are, though exceptions to this rule to exist. It has been said that Dureva and Man can never coexist, neither able to get along with the other.

Dureva use Mana as an internal source for their strange bodies.

Aihiki- Non-Playable
Man does know what these beings are. Manifest like gods, proclaiming man's error, one Aihiki is akin to a natural disaster. Many legends say what their goal is. Some say they are enforcers of the Earth itself. Some say they are a guide to the dead. Some demons sent to torment man. Whatever their case, the sight of one can frighten an entire country.

Cities(Humans)

Samudra

A harbor town that formerly was one of the wealthiest of the city states. Even now, it remains quite posh. It's naval technology is one of the best, and several spots in the ocean are ripe for harvesting Mana.

It's location makes it ideal for trading, fishing, and travel.

Recently, the marine life seems to have dwindled. The Mana supply seems to be disappearing, impacting their navy, with less power to run their ships; and the fishermen, who are having less luck, with less fish to work with.

Despite this, so far, this city's problems are rather small compared to others, living mostly untouched by the problems of the world.

A Royal family rules this town. They have refused to assist Madhya, due to their own problems.

Madhya

A town that grew from a mere trading post into a city rivaling Samudra in size. The location in the middle of many cities made it ideal for business. Man people moved here to accommodate merchants.

This area is rather rugged, depending wholly on the goods passing through the city.

It's known for it's harsh life and scarcity of Mana, or at least previously. Thick blankets of Mana suddenly appeared here one day, and Dureva following them, leading to this former trading town to become akin to a war zone.

A republic, whose citizens cry out for something to be done about these creatures.

Zaila

Located in the mountains, in a maze of valleys, the flow of Mana is largely unchanged.

In part to the rich amount of mana and ore, this area is rich for raising soldiers, warriors and mages. Infact, the city makes a handy economy by lending out their soldiers as mercenaries. Life expentancy tends to be rather...short in these mountains.

Veteran soldiers, who have somehow made it to old age, make up the council that rules this city with an iron fist.

They probably the only city to be making a profit off of the misfortunes of the other cities.

With the conflict of Madhya, a team has been requested to drive back the Dureva, and for the right price, Zaila was all to happy to provide.

Sasya

Spoiler

A farming town in a rich valley, south of the mountains where Zaila is located. It is also the site of many religious abbeys and convents, where the faithful make a simple living plowing the fields.

By manipulating the earth with Mana, it's fields are made even more fertile.

These lands are protected by it's zealous king, and a standing army, mostly out of fear of Zaila, but also for protection of it's crop production.

But recently, crops have failed, threatening the lives of everyone in the city. It was not a normal failing, even using earthen arts have done nothing to help. Not only is it the crops that fail, but even the animals are silent as of late.

The church has declared that the gods are unhappy at the Dureva fighting citizens of Madhya to the East, and Sasya not aiding their brotheren.

The king is desperately looking for answers, and is even stooping to asking other cities for aid in this. Believing in the church, he has sent several troops off to Madhya.

Tribes(Dureva)

Gurujana

The eldest tribe of Dureva, and currently the only one yet to be forced out their homelands, living deep within the mountains, rich with Mana. Infact, they are the least nomadic, with their source being the most unchanging....under normal circumstances.

Even though the Mana around them is still rich enough to survive off of, it thins everyday.

They don't move for their sense of tradition, as a tribe, avoiding man for centuries, and the flow of Mana seems to be headed away from their secluded life, and the borders of the mountains on all sides lead to civilizations of man.

The tribe chief is secretly concerned about whether or not they can continue to live in a deteriorating state, but due to tradition being part of their very culture, was indecisive about what was to be done.

But recently, many youth, who have no sense of tradition, have declared they would find the source of the problem.

The chief realized something had to be done, handed to the group the tribe treasure. Crystals that could contain Mana, allowing the Dureva to travel out Mist rich areas for sustained periods of time. Not many existed, and thefy had to be filled constantly, but it was what he could do.

Nava

Spoiler

A tribe of Dureva forced out of their homelands as the Mana depletion was literally killing the tribe. Without much forethought in their decision, and with the desperation of the situation, the entire tribe chased wildly to find once again a heavy concentration of Mana, and they did. With one problem. Humans stood in their way.

Conflict immediately ensued. While the Nava had found Mana rich enough to live in, it comes at a hefty price, as each day, conflict sparks with the humans. Though they may defeat 100 humans, 1,000 would take their place, both sides trying to drive back the other.

*The Aihiki race isn't open to many for a few reasons. A) THey are designed to be extremely power. B) There are alot of mysteries about them, why not much info is provided.

Name: Burning light
Type: Magic
Range: Two metres
Description: Icarus can release gamma rays which are essentially light in its most energetic form. Light in this form even in small amounts could permanently damage or kill a person due to the long term effects of the light. In large amounts it would flood the body with radiation if it hadn't incinerated them.

Weakness: - This can only be done in areas of substantially high mana.


Name: Blinding light
Type: Magic
Range: Usually 20 metres, increases with each crystal used.
Description: Icarus can shine bright light at his opponents in order to daze them, allowing him to escape or fight with much more ease. These are best used on archers. By using this in conjunction with light reflecting crystals which can pass on his beam of light without losing intensity, he can light up an entire area.

Weakness: The source of the light can be seen if the opponent has decent vision.

Type: Magic/Melee

Description: Icarus can bend the light around a dagger to hide it from sight before stabbing his opponent.

Weakness: It is still possible to see him hold the invisible object and it is still tangible. Requires concentration.

Personal

Personality

Icarus is a very tame and mature character by nature mostly given the strict upbringing up of his parents. He doesn't have any problems with authority - he prefers not to challenge it unless driven to it by his own morals.
He is very much so a pacifict although he carries a dagger for safety and the most he will usually come to do in combat are dazing light shows.
Around other people he tries to be friendly to all despite prior knowledge of their wrongdoings which sometimes doesn't turn out well when travelling dangerous roads.


History

Icarus was born to an upper middle class Samudran family; his father worked for the navy and his mother was a well respected medical professional who catered to the medical needs of the upper class. Growing up his parents expected him to follow in their footsteps and pick up a stable career - he had the brains to do whatever he pleased. He was top of his classes at school and had all the contacts to get himself his parents dream job.

Yet when he hit his teenage years the doubts began flooding in. He didn't want to just life any old comfortable existence; he wanted to find something that made him happy. He decided to become an explorer and an inventor - he would travel the world, coming up with new ideas and creating wondrous inventions.

Only that was five years ago. After travelling the world he is returning home to Samudra to reveal to his parents that he is even more penniless than when he left.

I almost never kill people in combat, after all characters are hard to build.

Depends on preference for your race. It's built so you could be either.

If you want a suggestion, I've got more built up for humans so far.
