    The Enemy IC

    -Lance-
Lance was on watch over the small group of people, kids really collected in Café de la Sanglant Rose. It was a little cafe Ace and Bullseye had apparently worked in a lot before. There was a small fire going in the center of the back room and the doors were closed up tight.

Bullseye had pulled her coat tight around her and was sleeping too close to the fire. Ace was off scavenging as always. Madman was lounging in one of the big lazyboy recliners they had dragged into the room. It seemed relatively safe here, and they had gotten comfortable. To comfortable for Lance's taste.

He remembered the last time he had been this comfortable. Sitting there doing homework. For a moment he was back in his room and then the screaming started. He jerked up. No. That was then. This was now. Now his family were these people around him. Ace and Madman were his brothers, and Bullseye was his sister. That was that.

    -Connor-
Connor had hit the jackpot. He had a shopping cart full of twelve packs of soda, a couple twenty-four packs of the individually bagged chips and four new travel sized first aide kits. He had stashed the first aide kits and tossed the goodies in the cart and started his way back.

So far so good. No Grownups and no dogs or cats. He got back to the Cafe and did the secret knock on the back door to let them know it was him. It took a second but finally Lance let him in.

"What did you bri-" Lance stopped short when he registered the cart. "That's some good stuff." He said quietly. It had been a long time since any of them had had sweets, even longer since they had found some actual potato chips. "Think it's any good?" He asked.

"Doubt it, probably all super flat and stale, but hey food is food, and it's the best we're gonna get." Connor responded, closing the door, sliding the bolt locks, and chaining the door shut. He stepped through and pulled the grate down over the back door.

That was one of the reasons they had come here. This Cafe had been in a really bad part of town and had some pretty insane security features, granted the alarms didn't work anymore, but the grates and stuff were still pretty near indestructible.

Ethan woke with a start as he heard the gate shut and wiped his eyes clear of the crust that had formed there from the night of sleeping. He yawned and stretched then grabbed his Greek sword from beside him and put on the leather jerkin that was the first stage of the roman armor that he had propped up and lined freshly cleaned. He strapped the sword to his belt and looked around noticing he was one of the only ones awake He found he was cold but didn't want to bother the sleeping bulls eye who looked like she was about to be in the fire herself. He chuckled and found himself looking at Cap and Ace just coming back in and he waved a greeting.

"Morning..." He mumbled his voice still asleep so it made the word come out blurred and not totally comprehensible. His eyes widened when he saw the goods and he let a smile come to his face, "nice one."

Blair woke up as well. She sat there in her hiding spot, still too afraid to come out. What would these people think when they find a complete stranger? She was cold and scared. After the fire and the murders....She didn't trust anyone. She didn't understand why se was trusting that these people would accept her. Ha!

She squished deeper into the hiding spot, holding her breath so she wouldn't be heard. Maybe she could lie a happy life in the tight spot. Unless of course they found her.

Ray sat there in front of a fire, on the flat cement roof of a tall building in what seemed to be the downtown area. He didn't have a very good idea where everything was since he had moved to California only two weeks before the outbreak. He stared at the can of ravioli he had put into the fire. He hated eating it straight out of the can without heating it up first... But he neglected to get a pot to cook it in, so he just cooked it straight in the can.

When he decided it was in there long enough, he poked it out of the fire with a stick. He knew it was too hot to open now, and would be too hot to eat even if he got it open, so he stood up, grabbed his rifle, and walked to the edge of the roof. Looking down the scope, he couldn't see much as it was still pretty early in the morning. By the amount of light, he'd guess about four or five AM. He could see the usual eerily empty street, or the occasional infected person wandering around... But what caught his eye was the flicker of a fire in the window of a distant building. He squinted and adjusted his scope... Surely there wasn't anyone else like him, right?

After about twenty minutes of staring at the flicker of light in the distance, his stomach rumbled and he lowered his rifle. By now he was sure the can was cool enough to handle, and sure enough, it wasn't too hot to touch. He quickly popped the can open with his skinning knife and started eating. The idea to investigate that fire would have to wait till his 'meal' was finished.
If you're going through hell. Keep on going.

Chance meandered down the wide road, one thumb hooked in her belt loop. She idly twirled the baseball bat in her other hand as she remembered the way this road used to look. It had once been packed with cars at almost all hours of the day; it was the most direct road into LA from the suburbs where she'd lived. Commuters, shoppers, sports fans, et cetera used this road.
Nowadays, it was devoid of life. On the day that adults turned into monsters, people had tried to drive away, or abandoned their cars in the middle of the road in favor of running. Other survivors had already been through here, taking whatever cars they could start and trying to get as far away as they could. Now the road was cracked and dusty, and the lone girl that walked down its middle was the only thing that moved.
Chance was just reaching LA, walking among its outermost buildings. It's probably around five o'clock, she guessed, looking at the sun as it began to rise. I ought to explore as much as I can before it gets dark, try and find some food and shelter before nightfall. . . . And I'll keep an eye out for any more survivors. She had been into the city before with her family to go to dinner at nice places, shop, or attend professional sports games, but she definitely didn't know her way around. Tightening her grip on the baseball bat, she started off into the city.

"Yeah, I found them in a little minimart. This was all I could really get, but hey it's some good ole grub." Connor said with a laugh. "Abigail, don't you dare sleep that close to the fire!" Connor shouted running over and yanking his sister away from the fire.
"Wha-?" Abigail grumbled after being jostled. "Wha's goin' on?"
"You were sleeping way to close to the fire, like always." Connor said shaking his head.

Gabe was relaxing in a reclining chair, and as he was the room started to get a little hazy. He was remembering what it had been like wandering the streets back when the outbreak had first started, and he was starting to have the same dream that had haunted him for a while. The streets were barren as if he was in a ghost town. Gabe usually traveled during the night, as he had figured out quite early on that the Adults seemed like they had pretty regular sleep patterns. To really understand how it feels to wander through a desolate town, one must understand that every sound is magnified tenfold. Especially since it was night, it meant that every single shadow seemed to be like one of the adults. It also made Gabe's humming sound a lot louder, which actually made Gabe feel slightly better. Suddenly a couple of shadows moved around him, and instantly both swords were drawn and he was scanning left and right trying to discern what was happening. As per usual when danger was present Gabe's vision started to black out.

He was jolted out of his dream by the gate closing. Connor had just come back with a trolley full of supplies, and Gabe yawned and jumped to his feet. "Yo Capt, Ace, anything good morning" He said cheerfully, before walking over to the trolley. "Oh wow Chips, haven't seen those in a while" He said cheerfully, before giving Connor a thumbs up. "Who says you are completely useless Connor" he started to laugh lightly before grabbing one of the chip packets out of the trolley. He was starving, and even though they may be stale, they were still tasty. "So Capt what is on the agenda today?" Gabe asked politely in between mouthfuls of chips"

"No one says Ace is completely useless, just a bit useless at times." Lance joked. "And for today I was thinking we should probably get on the move. I don't like how long we've stayed here for. We should pack everything up, and figure out the best route out of here. My aunt owned a ranch in Northern California. We could head up there. I doubt any of the animals are in good shape, but we might be able to plant some crops, and there were orchards all around, so we could probably find plenty of food once we got there. Up until now we have just been scavenging and surviving. I think it's about time we get a life back." Lance said firmly. Connor nodded thoughtfully and went over to where he had stashed a couple of maps.
"Do you know where is Capt.?" He asked him thoughtfully, pulling out a red marker from one of his dozens of pockets. "We can highlight a couple different routes, and figure out which one we think is best."
"Well here's where we are." Said Lance grabbing the marker and putting a red dot over LA. "And here is where we need to go." He said putting a dot on the map that looked like it would be a long way's away.
"That seems like it's gonna be a pretty long journey Capt. You sure that's such a great idea?" Connor asked skeptically. They did have a pretty good set up here, then again, there wasn't much food anymore and out of what they found most of it had gone rotten or gotten spoiled.

Volgun had found something good. It was a freezer. Inside was meat. He hadn't seen meat for a long time, since power ran out and it spoiled, but this freezer was powered by the solar panels on the roof, and it seemed that everything was ok in here. He had spent the last week searching through buildings, avoiding the monsters, and switching time schedules. Since his sleeping patterns were weird even before the outbreak, it was easy to sleep to avoid the adults, or what was left of them. He checked the freezer, it had corn and vegetables, with the meat and some other healthy looking things, better that all the canned food he was eating. He decided that he would spend the night here, to preserve all the food, and pack it up. If he found those other people that he had seen roaming around, he could probably trade for something good. Maybe this trade could lead him to join a group, with the rising amount of bandits and adults, it was safer in numbers. He heard the front door shuffle, like it was opening. This is bad, Volgun thought.

Chance had found what appeared to be some sort of corner store. She didn't have any food or water with her at the moment, so she decided checking this out was definitely worth a shot. Everything that hasn't spoiled will probably be gone by now, she thought, readying her weapon as she slowly pushed the door open.
Somebody else was there. A boy, probably about her age, with shaggy black hair, was going through the contents of a freezer. There's actually food in there. . . And it looks like the freezer's on, too. So it shouldn't be spoiled! But this kid was here first. . . . Unsure of what to do, Chance remained in the defensive stance she had assumed upon entering, holding her bat in front of her body with two hands as she stated at the boy.
