Kato and Soren were mostly quiet besides the brief instructions from Kato. His powers were getting stronger. Though, they stayed away from his latent power. It was something...bigger. Something he coulnd't control at his age. It would only come out during times of need. As they began to enter Moonflow, the blind Guardian started to slow, looking around. He felt someone nearby. He had been trailing them with a group, but they were closing the distance very quickly.

"This is getting truly troublesome," he murmured.

"What is it?" Soren asked, looking up.

"More company. Lady Sera. Eilie. Go ahead and cross the river with Soren. I'm going to stay behind," Kato said with a small sigh. "The Maesters are quite persistent in chasing us..." He turned back, an Al-bhed breaking from the forest slowly, a rifle in hand. It was Renok, panting heavily with a group of five Al-bhed behind him.

Renok aimed his rifle at Kato. "Summoner. We have no quarrel with you. Do as your Guardian suggests," he replied, eying Kato carefully. 'We're to take the blind man and the kid only. You two have no part in this." Soren was instantly on guard, not moving from Kato's side, despite the Guardian's request.

"What...?" Sera stepped up and was about to join Kato's side, but her advances were halted by Eilie. "It's too dangerous, Lady Sera. Our best bet is to ride the shoopuf now when we can," she said.

"I'm not leaving without Kato and Soren!" Sera snapped back, all the while tugging to free her arm that was grasped by the Crusader, though to no avail. Then, to the Al-Bhed, "Stay away from my guardians now, or else!"

"My apologies, Summoner," Renok replied. "But we're under orders from Maester Seymour. You're to go to him. These two, however, assaulted a Maester. Their lives are forfeit." He aimed at Kato, but the blind Guardian smiled at him. "You were a worthy opponent, but you're too dangerous to allow to live." His rifle fired without anymore said, the bullet going straight for Kato.

Soren was already moving before it was shot, though. "Protect!" A barrier appeared in front of the two, the bullet smashing against it harmlessly. Though this is the first time Soren's used White Magic, Kato doesn't seem all that surprised by it.

"Good. Take out the Al-bhed. Leave the leader. I want to talk to him," he said softly. Soren gave a nod, holding his hands up as the other Al-bhed began arming themselves up. Before they could attack, though, Soren's spells were going. Fire spells and Thunder spells took out each of them in turn rather quickly, leaving only Renok out of the elite Al-bhed assembled to hunt down the group. "Now...I'd like to ask you why you're betraying your own race." Renok gave a start at hearing that, but the Guardian continued regardless. "Yevon blames you for Sin. The Al-bhed didn't cause this. Sin is just another monster. There's no logic as to why Sin is here that could connect it to the Al-bhed. Yet...you gave in and joined the Maesters full heartedly. I expected more pride from the Al-bhed."

"What would you know about that?" Renok snarled, firing another shot. It was blocked again by Soren. "You don't know what it's like being outcasted your entire life for something you didn't know. If we have a chance to prove them wrong, we'll take it. Even if we have to join them."

"Ah. You're correct. I don't know that feeling," Kato said quietly. He patted Soren's shoulder lightly. "You did well, Soren. Keep up this level of training and Seymour will be no match for you next time you fight. I'll be fine on my own, though. Join Sera and Eilie. I'm trusting you to protect Lady Sera." Soren nodded eagerly at being entrusted with that again, running off to catch up to the two, leaving Kato alone with Renok. Renok was already aiming for the boy though, not ready to let his prey go. The Guardian cut in before he had a chance to fire, though. "If you'd like to take out your anger on me, fight honorably and not with that rifle. Or, better yet, listen to me. I have another proposition for you that might appease you a bit more than killing the boy and myself."

After a few minutes of struggling, Sera gave up and just let Eilie pretty much drag her towards a departing shoopuf. Soren joined them later, and as they got further and further away from the river bank, the summoner watched helplessly at the six figures that seemed to grow smaller and smaller as they went. Kato was right, she thought. They could have just summoned Bahamut and be done with the fifth temple, and those Al-Bhed wouldn't have caught up with them.

    Speaking of the Al-Bhed...

"Is it true that Seymour gave orders to the Al-Bhed?" Sera turned to Eilie. The female Crusader replied to the question with a shrug. "I never once understood why Maester Seymour would want to mingle with those heathens myself."

Sera let out a sigh. Just what could be inside her cousin's head now? She really had no idea anymore. She knew then that the Maester Seymour was nothing sort like the cousin Seymour that she once knew long time ago. She turned to face Soren, then. "Do you think Kato will join us soon on the other side of the river?" she asked.

"Of course he will!" Soren replied confidently. "They aren't that strong. Especially if he's the only one left." His confidence in the man was strong at least.

Kato smiled at the Al-bhed. "You know I'm a monster, right? You saw it first hand. I want you to prove that the Al-bhed aren't a nuisance here." Renok raised an eyebrow in curiosity at that, the rifle being lowered as a result. "Become Lady Sera's Guardian. Help her defeat Sin for good." Now his eyes widened, taken aback by this proposal. "Come. We'll talk on our way across the river."

With that said, Kato walked toward the shore, Renok following after with only a moments hesitation.

A smile rose on Sera's face, then. Soren's positive and optimistic attitude - especially on topics related to Kato - was indeed infectious. "Yeah, of course he will, won't he?" she said, chuckling. "We'll wait for Kato after we land, then all four of us will continue on to Macalania and retrieve the fifth Aeon."

The summoner's bubble of confidence was painstakingly apparent that Eilie didn't have the heart to tell that Macalania Temple was under the jurisdiction of Maester Seymour, nor that they would have to pass so close to Guadosalam, the capital of Guado and home to the Guado Maester. Though she was very sure that the Maester wouldn't do anything to harm Sera - at least not while she was on her pilgrimage. Especially since the two of them were still related.

When the shoopuf finally arrived on the opposite bank of Moonflow, Eilie couldn't help but notice the presence of a man who was standing on the port. His sharp features, together with his light colored hair and long limbs were unmistakable characteristics that represented the face of his entire race. The fact that the Guado didn't move an inch from where he was standing even though the shoopuf was close to landing only served to strengthen her assumption. "Lady Sera, I think someone from Guadosalam is here to see you..."

Soren was on guard as he realized that. A Guado meant Seymour. That couldn't be good.

Even as the three were disembarking, Kato and Renok were discussing their plans. Kato explained that he was Al-bhed as well, hence the blindfold. He also explained why he wanted strong warriors with a cause to guard Sera. He nodded along with it, but paused when he saw the summoner's transport landing.

Kato was on edge at seeing a Guado, but Renok was already aiming his rifle as a precaution for Sera's safety.

Though alerted at first, Sera quickly noticed that the Guado man didn't seem to have a weapon on him, which caused her to feel a considerable relief. "He doesn't seem to be armed," she told Eilie and Soren, before offering to walk hand in hand with the little boy. "I guess it's safe to proceed, don't you think? We'll leave for the woods immediately after we know what he wants."

Both Eilie and Sera departed from the shoopuf's back, then, and upon approaching the Guado, the man performed a formal sign of prayer and bowed deeply at the summoner's direction. "Welcome, Lady Sera Guado, to the Southern Continent," he greeted. "My name is Tromell and I serve as an attendant to your cousin, Maester Seymour Guado."

Out of courtesy, Sera replied the greeting with the same level of formality, not forgetting to introduce Eilie and Soren as her guardians. Her mind tried to remember as much and as quick as possible the many lessons that her mother had taught her about the Guado manners and speech. "May I ask why you are so far out of Guadosalam? Surely you don't come come all the way out here only to welcome a mere summoner that just happens to pass by."

"Of course not only a mere summoner; m'lady is the niece of our late Lord Jyscal Guado!" replied Trommell. "Maester Seymour has arranged a dinner to welcome you and your companions. I'm merely here to show you the way. Macalania Woods can be quite intricate to traverse, even for those that originally hail from Guadosalam."

Stifling a sigh, Sera continued, "Is it not troublesome for Lord Seymour? He must be spent from all the travelling ever since he became a Maester of Yevon."

"Of course not, m'lady. The Guado Manor is your home as well. You're always welcome to stay, especially when you have a long journey ahead of you." The Guado servant then bowed so low that Sera was almost sure his fingers would touch the ground if he hadn't folded them by his sides. Nevertheless, it seemed like it would be tough to reject the man. Turning her head back to the Moonflow, the half-Guado was partly hoping that Kato would appear sometime soon and helped her make a decision.

As if on cue, Kato and Renok arrived, taking place at Sera's side. The blind Guardian smiled as he heard about the invitation. "Well, it would be rude of us to refuse, now wouldn't it?" he asked. He winked at Sera as he said this. It would help to resolve their conflict with the Maesters. Hopefully, anyway.

Eilie eyed Kato and the incoming Al-Bhed suspiciously. Renok and his underlings were far more hostile on the guardian earlier, but now they seemed to be in friendly term. Nevertheless, what bothered her even more was the fact the Sera seemed to take the presence of the Al-Bhed lightly, greeting him as if he was travelling with them all along. It was clear that the half-Guado trusted the blind guardian far too much after all that he'd done in Mushroom Rocks.

"Are you sure?" Sera asked quietly. The tip of her knuckles brushed discreetly against the back of Kato's hand. "Considering that his servant is telling the truth, Seymour may won't hurt me, but he didn't mention anything about you and Soren."
