I am in! I call dips on a teacher![]()
Wow, you actually clicked on a 'Magic school' thread? One amongst the like, hundreds, on this forum? Were you that bored?
Lol, no but in all seriousness, i know this general setting has been done to death pretty much like zombie threads have been done to un-death, but hear me out here.
The general concept is that, at the dawn of the 21st century, magic was discovered through the study of inter-dimensional fields. Magic was essentially the energy that flowed through the various parallel universes as the basis for creation, fusion and separation. It also wasn't spread out evenly across these dimensions, there were certain areas where magic was highly concentrated in a 'knot' that both pinned that part of reality to its place in the Multiversal web, and connected that dimension to other dimensions, and one such 'knot' was found on earth, in the arctic ice fields.
There, a multinational secret research facility funded by the UN was erected to study the effects of these energies on time, space, organic and synthetic patter, and the perceivable reality itself. in 202X the first recorded instance of controlled manipulation of these energies occurred when a famed 'psychic' was brought to the facility and made to perform several tests of her abilities on a willing participant. During a tarot reading it was revealed that the dimensional energies fluctuated and rearranged in an unpredictable matter around her and the person she was performing the readings on. Later examinations revealed that she had permanently altered the flow of magical energies around the test subject to a degree of 4.6%, over ten times what was thought possible by human intervention and technology at the time. She had, in essence, subjected to change the very basis for the man's existence in reality as it was known, altering his destiny.
This discovery sparked a boom in the field of magical research and tarot readers were gathered from all over the world for these test. It was discovered that, firstly, only select few individuals had the ability to manipulate the dimensional fields, most practitioners, it would later be found out, could only read them through the cards. They could divine the structure of a person's magical field, but could not subject it to change. It was then found out that the tarot system, primitive as it was, was the only divination method to show constant, positive results, and subjects that had a confirmed ability to alter the structure of magical energy fields, were either hampered, or rendered completely unable to do so, when using methods other than tarot. It was subsequently determined that the original practitioners of tarot must have had some, basic, primitive knowledge of the newly re-discovered magic energies, which allowed them to center their craft along the flow of these energies which they perceived through natural attuning.
in 203X, after over a decade of research in the practice of tarot and how it could be utilized to manipulate magical energies, the Universal Magical Research Association,or UMRA (pronounced 'oom-rah'), the multinational organization responsible for the discovery of magical-manipulation techniques and devices, held a worldwide conference where one of their test subjects displayed the ability to cause a single seed to grow into a full-grown tree within the span of a few minutes, another test, one of average physical build, was able to tear apart a solid block of steel, after using magic to weaken it's structure.
Like this, the existence of magic was revealed to the world.
it is now 2063, the arctic research facility has been demolished and re-constructed as a great scientific and academic complex named Arcana Academia, there, people of all ages who poses an affinity for magic are gathered and are educated both in common academic matter, but also in how to manipulate magical energies and cast spells based on a system centering around the 22 major arcana in tarot. It is also the world's seat for magical research and development as several of the top graduates of Arcana Academia are offered jobs either as researchers for UMRA or as teachers in the academy, often times both.
Our characters would be high-school level students, teachers and researchers at the academy living their lives as the world's eyes are on them and they are bringing the world out of the electronic age, and into the magical one.
Basically (cause i know plenty of you will TL;DR through that) the rp is a mixture between Mx0 and the Persona game series. All of our characters are students at a university located in the arctic circle (no worries, they control the weather within the academy grounds so that you're not freezing your ass off) that is essentially an escalator school, teaching from the primary to university level that teaches the students how to use magic through the use of tarot cards, as well as regular stuff like math and language classes (cause, you know, what good is being able to levitate shit if you can't do long divisions and have no computer skills to speak of? I'm lookin' at you harry potter). There WILL be a central plot including a primary antagonist and everything though, don't worry.
So, yall interested?
the problem with awesome roleplays is they attract awesome players, and the problem with having awesome players is they usually fuck up in awesome ways, and require awesome explanations to correct their awesome mistakes.

Bad spelling is fine as long as it's sill readable, i constantly type the and like as 'teh' and 'liek' as a sort of written tick.
what i am looking for is quality posts. this doesn't translate purely into length but it is impossible to do a 2 1/2 line quality post (unless you're in the middle of dialogue of course).
qhat is quality is when i observe 3 things in a post. Firstly, reaction, your character has to properly and adequately react to previous events to which they were subjected to.
so, for example, if your character is in a fight with a guy that is twice hi size and gets clocked in the face, you have to show him staggering or better yet get knocked on the floor (unless he's a trained/experienced fighter and has learned how to absorb hits).
second is thought. The mark of a good role player is someone who knows how to illustrate his character's thoughts and mood, react to things not only in the physical sense, but in the emotional one as well. the quality of how it's represented also maters. writing "she was distraught at the current development" is better than nohing, but writing "she bit her lip and her brow furrowed with worry as she looked on, aware that she was helpless to do anything to help" is much better.
and lastly is progress. after you're done reacting to what just happened, it's important to progress the story further in some way, big or small, so that you give the people who will reply to your post something to react to as well, rather than leave it completely up to them to introduce new developments. Now, of course, since you're not the gm, I won't be expecting you to do anything super major as far as the central plot is concerned, but that doesn't mean there aren't still plenty of ways for you to progress the narrative.
and example would be: "she bit her lip and her brow furrowed with worry as she looked on, aware that she was helpless to do anything to help. She turned to jack, who was observing the scene with a hard expression, the same frustrated feeling of helplessness painted on his features. "Jack, isn't there anything we can do to stop this? hasn't it gone on for long enough?" she asked with a pleading tone."
if you can show me a post that properly showcases these three factors or construct one, then I'll use that to judge your RP ability. Description of your surroundings/appearance as well as creativity and heightened vocabulary are all a nice bonus, but should never overshadow the above three criteria.

Strange...your the first one to complain on that....But den again i would probably make a student with some afterthought....I only did decent anyhow.
well, rpg shows up with different collors depending on your monitor screen. I know that a certain shade of red looks fine on my computer, but is hard as fuck to read on my mother's. I've identified a few colors to stay away from since i know some peopel (even if not everyone) will have difficulties reading them.
anyways, not really that much interest in this so far huh?
do me a favor and advertize this to people you know who might be interested please? just so we can get ennough ppl onboard to justify an actual rp
