    Shadows of London - OOC

London in the late 1800s was a place of mystery; the notorious fogs, the colorful legends, and the extreme ranges of living conditions have all served to capture the imagination of writers and artists that have since followed, hoping to re-create some of the magic that London held.. Or the horror.

With the Ripper murders in full swing and the infamous killer still on the loose, London is a place where caution should be exercised by all. Neither riches nor rags are safe, and no one knows where danger will strike next. While the violence has been mostly confined to the slums of Whitechapel, there is no guarantee that Jack's tastes won't extend beyond those boundaries and into the very heart of the city itself..

General theme for the play isn't necessarily based entirely on dealing with aspects of horror/crime. Play is casual and more focus more on every day life in London, but with this current underlying threat looming in the background that people can take advantage of. This should make it palatable to most players, but offer occasional plot twists for interest. Keeping things more general also offers a wider chance for people to join in and really stake out a claim for their characters in whatever manner they'd enjoy most. I'm aiming for a large group of people for this one so that there's a lot of interaction. (Focus will be more on character interactions than being totally plot-driven, so it would make for nice casual play, but can easily be made more in-depth, if feeling so inclined.)

There is no limit on the amount of players allowed in this SL -- The more, the merrier!

All period-appropriate characters from literature, movies, and OCs are welcome to join in at any time. (Other modern or historical characters may be adapted to fit the setting, if desired. Anything supernatural should be kept to a minimum, as this is set in a more realistic world - i.e. vampires, werewolves, magical powers, etc. If you're looking to play a character that typically would have supernatural abilities, you may still play that character, but their abilities have to be explained by a scientific reason. Example: If you want to adapt Lestat, he may still have Vampriric tendencies, but wouldn't be an actual vampire. His 'condition' of wanting to drink blood or being sensitive to sunlight may be explained as having a medical disorder such as 'Porphyria' or 'Xeroderma Pigmentosum', not by simply having supernatural abilities.) Having multiple characters is allowed, but is limited to 2 per player. (Except for the GM who may throw in random extra characters from time to time as irregular features to bounce things along. A list will be kept of them for reference, however, should anyone wish to keep tabs.)

Actual London locations may be used as spots to play, but creating new/unique venues is also encouraged. (Does your character want to run a shop? Perhaps there's a particularly seedy pub they like to frequent? Feel free to make one up!) Locations specific to certain fandoms/characters may also be used, so long as they're appropriate to the time period/setting. The list for current locations will be updated as needed.

When posting, it might be best to post 'Character name - Location' (replaced with appropriate information) at the top of your post so that the people reading will know who you are and where you're at. (Especially helpful if you play multiple characters or are looking to play in a specific location - so people can keep straight where you/your character currently are.)

    Be Respectful

This should be a no brainer, but I'm saying it anyhow. Be courteous to your fellow players and you'll be treated the same in kind.

    No Fighting

This is an extension of the first rule -- If you start bickering, I'll quickly break it up and you'll get a warning. You get three strikes, you're out, buddy. GM has final ruling on such matters and decisions won't be questioned once a verdict has been reached.

    No Godmodding

If a conflict arrises in the course of an RP session, please keep it realistic. All characters have their strengths and weaknesses.. And no one in this SL is superhuman. Keep that in mind.

Post At Least Once A Week

Hey, I know life can get busy, but that's a fairly easy bar to reach. If you're able to post more than that, then definitely post as often as you can to help keep the flow going. If you know you're going to be away for an extended period of time, be sure to message the GM to let them know! (If I see someone is inactive for a period of time, I have no problem removing them from the roster, unless otherwise notified. If you disappear without explanation for one reason or another without notice, you may not be allowed back in again at a later date. Keep this in mind.)

    You May Post Graphics

Graphics are allowed in the IC thread within reason, but they MUST be posted behind a spoiler button to keep the thread tidy. I know sometimes if your character is sending someone a note/telegram or something it can be fun to post a picture of an actual handwritten document you've mocked up, or if your character is giving someone a gift it's helpful to post a picture of it so they can actually see the item, but we don't want cluttered threads. Use your discretion and keep things appropriate.

    Off-Shoot Sessions

You may splinter off for private play sessions between particular characters, if you're so inclined, but a brief description of what occurred must be sent to the GM via message. (Or a link to the thread must be provided, if played out in the 1x1 area.) This is so that the plot development list may be kept current. Private sessions are suggested if playing out themes that are overtly sexual or violent in nature, as a courtesy to your fellow RPer's who many not wish to read explicit material. (PG-13 rule in the main IC thread, R and above should go private.)

    Have fun

That's why we're all here, after all!

Alistaire is still a work in progress and I should be done with his bio by tomorrow. At the moment, I am about to fall head first into my laptop's keypad and that's not pleasant. I hope you like my version of Watson! :O I added a small touch from the movies, that being Gladstone, and had Mary killed off as Doyle did. A living Mary Watson = no excursions for poor Johnny-Boy, even if it'll make him sad.

"Look at the sky. It's not dark and black and without character... the black is, in fact, deep blue. And over there: lighter blue, and blowing through the blues and blackness the winds swirling through the air and then shining, burning, bursting through: the stars! And you see how they roar their light. Everywhere we look, the complex magic of nature blazes before our eyes."

Good sir! This is a very ingeneous idea, and I would be flattered if you would permit me to participate. XD

    Name: Hercule Poirot

    Age: 38

Brief Physical Description: Hercule Poirot is best described as a short man, standing at only 5'4, with a head the shape of an egg and a slowly receding dark hairline. Thus, he is rarely seen anywhere without his trademark bowler hat. Most impressive about him is his stereotypically Belgian mustache, curving up-wards at the edges.

Character Bio: Although he often mentions things concerning his past, very little of it turns out to be true. More often than not, he will create a ruse to discern important information from near anybody. However, what is known is that he was born in Spa, Belgium, and joined the Brussles police force in his twenty's. Poirot was raised a Roman-Catholic, and a Roman-Catholic he remains.

After leaving the Belgian police force, Poirot became a private detective, a thing well suited to his distinct personality and methods. Poirot operates as a fairly conventional, clue-based detective, depending on logic, which is represented in his vocabulary by two common phrases: his use of "the little grey cells" and "order and method". However, he has another detective skill up his sleeve. His ability to decieve. Perhaps even a descendant of Thespis himself, Poirot knows how to get anyone to believe about him that he wants them to believe.

    That is all.

(P.S. - I'll add the bio up for Alistaire once you've finished, Haemonculus.)
