I'm pretty new to the place, and these sites in general, and I've only RPed casually-freeish with a small gang of friends as the moderator. I advanced the story, created the supporting characters and NPCs and gave them the setting and place.
Is this alright on here? Moderating for posts like I did on said site? I dunno if that's the standard or norm around here.

Here we call it "GMing". The maker of a roleplay is called the GM, and is essentially the one in charge of it. You, as the GM, have control over who joins the roleplay, as well as posting expectations and the like. It's also your responsibility to steer the story along and create NPC's where needed.
So yes. That's quite alright. We just don't call it "moderating", really. That's something mods do.
Yeah. I think the confusion stems from the fact that in persistent-style RP boards (the Harry Potter, the Star Wars) the moderators and site admins actually act as the GM's, because essentially, the entire site is one big RP, so shifting over to something that's more thread-based can be confusing.
The OP says s/he RPed with a small group of friends and acted as the GM him/herself, though. Just under the wrong title.
Valid point, but I'm not sure that's the issue here, particularly.
Basically, Minime, you've been GMing practically by definition; you just haven't been calling it that. Thankfully our Guild terminology doesn't take long to pick up on.
