Name: "Sir" Amsel Blue
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance:
Amsel is a dark-skinned man of average height, and despite his knightly appearance, he's quite a bit skinnier than most warriors, lacking muscle definition. His face appears foreign, but not too much so, so it's easy to deny that he's not from the area around Kraath, although upon closer inspection, many can eventually deduce it. Brown eyes and very short (almost buzzed) black hair adorn his head, once again not a very knightly hairstyle.
Class/Occupation: "Knight Errant" (or so he claims)
Skills:
Sprinting: Even in full armor, Amsel is a veritable lightning bolt, his impressive speed gained from his years evading soldiers in crowded streets. Outrunning Amsel is nigh impossible -- catching him is even harder.
Freerunning: Years of leaping from rooftop to rooftop and scaling walls during his criminal years have made Amsel an impressive freerunner. Getting from point A to point B as quickly and creatively as possibly is one of his many thieving talents.
Thievery: Pickpocketing, lockpicking, stealth and other facets that require guile are all parts of Amsel's thievery garnered from his criminal background.
Resilience: Often having to go days without food or shelter, Amsel's past in poor living conditions, getting beat up by other thugs and taking a number of hits in his illegal pursuits have made him one tough cookie. It takes a lot to keep Amsel down, and he tends to recover faster than most.
Weaknesses:
Direct Combat: Amsel was never formally trained in any form of martial combat, and cannot effectively wield most weapons, as he always preferred running from attackers rather than defending himself. Usually his mercenary work and assassinations don't put him up against much in terms of skill, but against a more skilled opponent, he'll quickly become outclassed. Thus, he prefers to use other methods to kill; poisoning, backstabbing, or simply hiring an assassin are commonly used methods.
Equipment: Amsel was never taught how to sharpen, clean or otherwise maintain weaponry, so he is currently between swords and shields, usually preferring to steal a weapon from someone else if necessary. Aside from a simple iron dagger, Amsel carries a few lockpicks, a skeleton key, and a lantern.
His suit of armor bears the crest of the Blue family on a purple tabard, but is otherwise a standard suit of light chainmail with protective plating on the shoulders, hands, thighs, shins, and feet. As he is often worried about someone discovering his true identity, Amsel tries to keep his helmet on as much as he can, something that many find odd.
Personality: Amsel does not even attempt to exhibit the chivalry typically befitting of a knight. Condescending, arrogant, and accompanied by a ridiculous sense of self-entitlement, it can be very hard to get along with Amsel if he doesn't respect you. Earning his respect requires a lot of one of two things; money or power. He's a very verbose person if need be, and is quite good at talking out of a his ass, for lack of a better term, mostly due to being the son of a scholar.
Background: Born in one of the more distant kingdoms of humanity, Damascal, Amsel Fakhir was the son of a scholar (his father) and an artisan (his mother). He lived a relatively happy life in his quiet hometown, until he was about fourteen years old. It was then that the Great Purge occurred; scores of knights invaded Damascal with the intent of conquering the Damasca and "uniting" them with the other kingdoms, as they'd long resisted unity with the rest of humanity.
Amsel's hometown was the first to be hit by the invading wave, and as such, they were completely decimated before they could even attempt to resist. His parents were not murdered; no, the crusaders did something far worse, at least in Amsel's eyes. Both of his parents, despite their impressive background and reputation, were forced into slave labor with the rest of the rabble, something that affected the incredibly prideful Amsel quite deeply. Not wanting to be made subservient himself, Amsel eluded the slavers and decided to make his own way in life.
And so, he became a simple pickpocket -- a profession that he believed quite beneath his illustrious upbringing -- to make enough scratch to feed and clothe himself. Soon his venture into criminal exploits surpassed simple pickpocketing, and Amsel found himself caught up in various not-so-salubrious activities like highway robbery, mercenary work, and even assassinations. Despite this, he longed for a position he considered befitting of his greatness.
Fortune finally smiled on Amsel at the age of twenty when he discovered Sir Francis Blue, a forgettable, bumbling Knight of a lower family, and his son dead out in the Damascan desert. Seeing this as a great opportunity to turn his life around, Amsel stole Blue's armor and his patents of nobility and decided to pose as his son. Among Blue's possessions was a map and a journal, which Asmel made sure to read thoroughly. Apparently Blue was from the kingdom of Kraath, but was sworn into knighthood and settled down in the province of Brembrook, which was quite a distance from the central court.
Not wanting to risk getting found out, Amsel, now calling himself Sir Amsel Blue, Knight Errant, traveled to Kraath where he hoped he could find work and finally receive recognitions for his actions. Unfortunately, Blue's name did not carry nearly as much weight as Amsel had originally thought; instead of being showered with praise, he was simply brushed off as a fairly obnoxious nobleman.
And thus, Amsel's "Knight Errantry" simply devolved into petty mercenary work and extortion, just like old times. No longer even attempting to give the impression of knighthood, Amsel simply tries to get by and get recognized, wearing his armor on jobs for the impression it leaves on people. Now 22, Amsel received word that the crusaders finally withdrew from Damascal a year ago, but many of the Damasca still remain enslaved. Amsel hopes to one day raise enough money to buy his parents' freedom... if they're still alive, that is.
He stays in the keep in between jobs for a steady source of food and lodgings, lending a hand to the Guard if need be. His connections in the criminal underworld allow him to hear a lot of interesting things that are often of use to the residents of the keep.
