Ours is the Fury

The Baratheons are both the youngest and oldest of the great houses, their founder Orys Baratheon was rumored to be the bastard brother of Aegon the Conquerer, he killed the last of the Stormkings and married into the female line, taking up the lands and sigil of house Durrendon becoming lord of the Stormlands. His descendants are known for their large builds, black hair and fierce tempers.

In recent times the Baratheons sided with Aegon II during the dance with dragons, staying true to Andal tradition, their lord feeling a king was needed to rule the Seven Kingdoms. Though the war officially ended with a truce and a compromise between the two sides there is inevitable hard feelings between the Baratheons and the king. Manfryd Baratheon's appointment as the Kings-Justice served effectively as a ward on the families loyalty. The Stormlords have generally kept to themselves this past decade, unfortunately allowing their rule over the Dornish marches to slip back slightly, they have grown bolder more recently though and only time will tell what effects this will have.

Name: Lord Bryen Baratheon
Title: Lord of Storm's End
Age: 55

History:
Bryen has little memory of his father, when he was only seven reports came back that Fergus had died of wounds inflicted during a tourney mishap and Bryen was appointed as lord of Storm's End while still a mere boy. Obviously he didn't truly rule until he was much older but the appointment and the supposed power it gave him instilled a great deal of confidence in the young lad that would carry through to when he became a man. Bryen acted as merely a figurehead for much of his life while advisers and bannermen took care of the day to day running of the realm, as a result he was brought up to be more charismatic than academic.

Like all figureheads though Bryen did serve a purpose, something of a cult of personality was built up around the boy to try and inspire the small-folk and make the kingdom look less weak to others, the downside being if you tell a twelve year old that he's the warrior incarnate then he's likely to believe it. Bryen spent a good deal of his childhood in the training yard or later out across the Stormlands leading some boyish adventure. He developed an interest in sailing which was quickly quashed by his carers, Ship-Breaker bay not being the best place for young sailors to learn the ropes, still Bryen always held a romanticized view of the sea and the east.

Responsibility was gradually weened to the young Baratheon as he grew up and he readily accepted it, believing himself an excellent ruler, even if he did leave the more administrative work to his Maester whom he regarded with some contempt. Despite being quite headstrong the balance of power actually worked quite well in the Stormlands, Bryen had enough charisma and good enough advisers to make things run. He married a woman from house Tarth, arranged by his mother it was a political marriage to ensure stability in the region and there was little love between them, her being quite plain in appearance. He sired two sons from her before she lost her life during a miscarriage of what would be a third. Manfryd the eldest son took after his father, relishing in adventure and combat, Bryen found himself quite close to, while the younger Errik was much more studious and academic theirs was something of a more distant relationship.

When civil war brewed Bryen did what he deemed the honorable thing and sided with Aegon II. Jarred was a good friend of Aegon, the close proximity of their homes meant they had much contact over the years and he also had a good relationship with the lord commander of king's guard, Criston Cole; when Rhaenyra called for war Jarred was more than happy to accommodate. One of the earliest supporters of the king, Bryen wanted to take action before any of his bannermen had time to consider their loyalty and other than a peasant militia in the Rainwood the majority of Stormlords stayed true on their oaths to the Baratheons. Despite his age Bryen was determined to try and serve in the front-lines of conflict and took quite an aggressive strategy to war which while costing many troops did help significantly in the capture of Kings-Landing and the subsequent death of the pretender.

The war did come to an end though, seeing as the young Aegon III was now lawful king by any definition peace was sued for between the two sides, Bryen was more reluctant than most of his allies but grudgingly he had to come to the realization that their cause was indeed lost. Though no side could truly be counted the winner, the lack of victory in the costly war seemed to drain a lot of spirit out of Bryen, what he had once viewed as a very black and white situation had gradually become much more grey. The lord of Storm's End was uncharacteristically meek during the negotiations and agreed to unfavorable terms in order to ensure his families loyalty, seemingly uncaring of what happened.

In the years that followed Bryen struggled in his Lordship over the Stormlands, where as he had once seemed to effortlessly command respect from his subjects the war had taken the flare out of him and he couldn't come to terms with what he considered his failure. In the aftermath Bryen grew distant from his two sons, Manfryd whom he had encouraged to fight and had arranged an early knighthood to allow him to do so was severely affected by the battle, post-traumatic stress and a blood-lust made the boy eventually request appointment as the King's Justice, though it pained Bryen he had admittedly lost touch with his once beloved son and knew the position would stabilize his families relationship with the Targaryens so reluctantly agreed. His other son Errik had never truly seen eye-to-eye with his father in the first place being much more of an intellectual, it wasn't long before he too left to study at the Citadel with dreams of becoming a Maester. Both sons gone and his wife long since dead Bryen was left to wallow in his fall from grace.

More recently there was a pirate raid on the isle of Estermont, in the grand scheme of things quite a thing but it represented something bigger, it showed how weak the lord must seem that his lands could be plundered with impunity, it crossed a line. Rumor is the attack rekindled something in the man, woke him up, still a shadow of his former self he has stopped slumping in the past though and begun to look to the future, to redemption.

Personality:
Lord Bryen Baratheon is a beaten man, but one trying to rise up. He considers himself to be a shadow of his former glory, the loss during the civil war broke his pride shattering the glorious heroic life he seemed to be living, showing him he was not in fact invincible. But while he lacks much of the bravado of his former self he is also wiser and more cautious than he once was, Bryen has never been considered an intelligent man, even by himself, but he's now gained a certain wariness about him.

Outwardly Braden tries to appear as boisterous and strong as he ever was and at times it isn't even an act, but generally he wears this element of his old self like a cracked mask, who exactly he's trying to fool isn't clear but unfortunately it only serves to drive home the contrast between him and who he once was. Despite his rumbling voice and powerful build the man is quite quiet now and sometimes goes into self-pitying moods that can last days at a time. He drinks, he laughs, he fights, but there's a hollowness to it all, he's lost his pride, his honor.

For the most part he is a kind, simple man with an odd sort of honor to him, willing to put the realm before himself in most things and very respectful of Andal tradition, but on the whole quite meek. Of recent though there is a marked change in the man, a certain grit, a base determination has entered in him that drives him to try and pull the Baratheon name out of the dirt and reclaim his glory. You can see it in the man's eyes, beneath the half-hearted brazenness and under the self-pitying depths he's fallen into there's something that fights back. Some boy king would not be enough to keep a true stormlord down and Braden will push and make enough noise to put himself back onto the center stage.

Name: Ser Manfryd Baratheon
Title: The King's Justice (royal executioner)
Age: 27

Biography:
Manfryd was only 17 at the onset of the dance of the dragons, a newly appointed knight lacking in experience but compensating with eagerness; bolstered by his father's encouragement he set out with dreams of honor and glory, only to come back with fire and blood. The front-lines at the storming of the Red-Keep and witnessing two dragons tear each other apart are not things a boy should know. Still, traumatized and scared he was driven on until the end of the war, trying fruitlessly not to feel every blow as he carved through the hordes of peasants. Fortunately for Manfryd he didn't cross blades with any other nobles and was lucky enough not to be on the losing side of any of the conflicts he was involved in, even if his side didn't end up victorious overall.

When peace did at last return to Westeros Manfryd was not the same man who'd had left Storm's End. Though considered to be on the unofficial losing side of the war house Baratheon was pardoned and allowed to keep its lands and holdings, Manfryd was allowed to return to a normal life. Sadly though, while the young Baratheon may been done with the war it was not done with him. His initial joy and relief at returning home was soon soured by recurring nightmares and post-traumatic stress, whenever a great storm beat against the walls of Storm's End he was transported back to the hell and clamor of battle. His family tried as best they could to console him but part of Manfryd never really left the battlefield, he could never forget the horrors he'd experienced. But what was strangest he found, was he missed it.

At first it was difficult to understand, he had hated the war, or at least he thought he did. But at least then he'd felt alive, sending men into the arms of the stranger made him cling to his own life ever tighter, like a drowning man clutching at driftwood. That was being on the edge and living every second as though it could be his last, this? Life in Storm's End was slow and drab by comparison, he had no interest in politics, there was an itch in him somewhere that he was almost unaware of and had no idea how to scratch, until he killed another man.

It was a bandit, he and a few of the sworn swords were sent to take care of a local group in the Rainwood, he entered combat and suddenly he was back. His pulse raced and breath quickened something in him had re-awoken. It took three men to drag him off the corpse and another ten minutes for Manfryd to come back to his senses, but when he did he felt alive. It was something he struggled with for a long time afterwards, he made the other men swear not to tell his father feeling disgusted with himself and a monster, but it was something he couldn't deny. Manfryd withdrew from the rest of the family, he sought religion as his solace, one night he lit a candle to the stranger and then he knew what he had to do.

Manfryd still was uncomfortable with the bloodlusting side to himself but had to admit that becoming the king's executioner would be the perfect outlet. His father didn't take as much convincing as he'd expected, becoming King's Justice meant he could act as an effective ward to ensure Baratheon loyalty while the family could still retain its pride, though he was admittedly quite highborn for the position.

Personality:
Manfryd is good at his job. He's not a cold blooded executioner, far from it, he feels every kill and that's what drives him to do them, awakening something deep inside of him. Though like many soldiers who go AWOL or breakdown post-battle Manfryd is heavily at odds with himself over the morality of his actions, fully seeing himself as something of a monster. At the beginning of his term as executioner he tried to rationalize the killings as justice and a necessity, however that viewpoint soon broke down for him, killing a murderer doesn't bring the victim back to life, rather ironically the Kings-Justice lost all belief in justice.

Manfryd found his solace in religion and is a deep adherent to the seven, spending much of his off-time in prayer and regularly lighting candles to the stranger before and after beheadings. He is a quiet, solemn man and very introverted, except on the rare occasions where he is brought to anger where he has the appearance of going straight from calm to almost blind rage, fortunately he is quite slow to anger. Despite his families allegiance during the war Manfryd is very dutiful to the crown and has little to no pride when being asked to do what would normally be menial tasks for someone of his birth. Possibly because of his religiousness, experiences in the war or the way he views himself the Kings-Justice cares very little for materialistic things or honors and has little regard even for his own well being, at times even praying for his own demise. He's been nicknamed 'Bloodaxe' or 'The Black Stag' but rejected them almost immediately as he has no wish to dress up what he is.

Despite his job and relatively humble outlook in life it's very clear that Manfryd is of noble stock. Subconsciously or not, the executioner's well groomed appearance and his fashionable, if grim, attire make him stand out among the gaolers and turnkeys he works with, he has a well spoken accent and his mannerisms have all the customs one would expect to find in the heir to Storm's End. Manfryd is generally quite courteous and pleasant enough when speaking to others, but he can often seem bored and detached when doing so.

Name: Errik Baratheon
Title: (Ex)Acolyte of the Citadel

Biography:
Errick had a difficult time growing up, his father was a proud man who only really valued strength in people, but from an early age Errick was heavily academic. Most of his time was spent reading and learning off the maester, the times his father did drag him to the training yard often turned into the more unpleasant of Errick's childhood memories. His relationship with his father was distant at best, the pair generally tried to act as though they were close, but they were living worlds apart. Fortunately for Errick his father didn't press him too hard to become a warrior, Lord Baratheon had Errick's older brother Manfryd to focus on, who was every bit the fighter his father had wanted.

As he got older Errik grew to look down on his father and brother to an extent, seeing them as simple minded brutes viewing himself to be far more intellectually superior to them. He had a better relationship with his mother who, while no more academic, was more emotionally open than the other members of the Baratheon household. Unfortunately she died after having a miscarriage while Errick was fairly young so while he has pleasant memories of her he does not have many.

When war came Errick was thankfully too young to take part in any of the fighting so instead aided with administrative duties aiding the fighting, a task he found thanklessly dull. Warfare didn't reach Storm's End but during the duration Errick was rarely let out of the castle for fear of him being kidnapped as a way to get to his father as there was a peasant uprising for Rhaenyra in the stormlands. The young Baratheon grew to loath the keep and dreamed of leaving to travel to exotic more enlightened places.

When the war ceased and his family returned Errick began thinking more seriously about leaving Storm's End, seeing how easily his older brother convinced their father to let him join the court in King's Landing Errick too requested to go and study at the Citadel to become a Maester, his father being in quite a lessened state since the war obliged him and Errick left within the fortnight.

Errick initially excelled during his years at the citadel quickly earning links in economics and warcraft however the more time he was there the more he let his arrogance and contempt get the better of him and he grew impatient with the tests eventually overestimating himself and giving little to no study, a life around relatively light-weight intellectuals had made the lad grow lax. The final straw came when he was caught at one of the Oldtown brothels with a whore and was expelled from the Citadel and has been sent back to live at Storm's End.

Personality:

Errick considers himself quite cultured and intellectual and growing up with a battle loving father and brother has made him generally look down on others to a degree. He is intelligent though perhaps not as much as he thinks, his failure at the Citadel has certainly left him quite bitter but he doesn't blame the incident on himself, preferring to pass the buck to whomever he can. In his current position he has traits of the prodigal son, though less remorseful, Errick still hasn't given up the dream of making something of his life.

Master At Arms - Ser Ossifer Plumm
A household knight from the Westerlands, hedonistic and known womanizer, Ser Ossifer has become infamous for his absurd claims of "well endowment". Despite this though he is a competent fighter and from a fairly wealthy house so maintains good standing in the Baratheon household.

Fool - Bottler
A simpleton from Oldtown, though some have questioned his, simpleness. He was initially brought in to Raise Lord Bryen's spirits after losing the war and provides the man brief respite between his moods. Oddly the Baratheon Lord has come to trust the fool explicitly and Bottler has become something of an odd confident of his, causing some disturbance in his followers. Its said that behind the veneer of merryness and stupidity that the fool may actually be quite a depressed man.

House Stark



The Starks are the most ancient of the great houses, their decent stretches back long before the Targaryen conquest and even before the invasion of the Andals. They are the principal rulers of the region known as the North, the largest of the old seven kingdoms but also most sparsely populated, they govern from their ancestral seat at Winterfell the ancient castle known for its great defensive capabilities.
A sign of their origins, the Starks are one of the few houses who still keep to the worship of the old gods, shown by the Godswood located in the castle grounds and the large weirwood tree that lies within. Their sigil is a grey dire-wolf on a white backdrop and their words are "Winter is coming".

Age: 37

Personality:
Known as something of a recluse and a slightly unnerving man, Willam nevertheless tries to give off a good impression when in company. What humor he has is generally sarcastic, otherwise though he can be quite rigid and ambiguous.

A defining aspect of Willam Stark is that he's an insecure person, this comes partly from growing up where his younger brother was the family favorite and later in life where his wife quite openly disdains him. As such he is driven by a strong need to prove himself and obsesses about the kind of legacy he will leave behind him when dead. He is generally ruled by the fearful prospect of being the Stark that loses the north.

While he can be seen as calculating and is certainly suspicious, Willam is really too much of a blunt instrument to be effective at playing the game of thrones. His loyalties lies strongly with the north and how he will be remembered there when he's gone. Over the past few years he's witnessed the decay of his father and house Stark along with him, because of this he has a real fear of becoming powerless and is now something of a control freak.

Combat wise he is stronger than he appears and has skill with a sword but the incident where Willam gained his scar has made him generally avoid danger when he can. He couldn't quite be called a coward as he will do what is necessary with no other choice prevents itself but in combat he is more known for caution and patience than combat finesse.

Appearance:
Stoic and withdrawn; Willam has a very measured demeanour with a gaze at times either aloof or seething depending on his mood. He has the pale skin of a man who's days are mostly spent indoors and a low nasal voice that can give him something of a dark gravitas when it doesn't merely seem petulant.

Willam's most identifiable feature is a twisted scar running up from the right side of his mouth to the centre of his cheek, seeming to fix his mouth to a permanent sneer. He has a gaunt, gnarled face and a heavy brow with deep-set grey eyes. His skin, other than being quite pallid, has a certain weathered quality to it, mixed with his first serious signs of age makes Willam's face quite textured and worn.

Greasy black hair curls down to his chest which has a gentle sway to match his movements. He walks with a slow gait but his strides seems purposeful nonetheless and his lean, angular physique makes him seem taller than his 6'2.

The clothes pictured aren't a good indication of his usual wardrobe; generally Lord Stark dresses in dark leathers (although the chain remains) and a long fur cloak with fine boots to match. His outfit is hardly Kings-Landing fashionable but compared to other northern lords he could be said to dress quite well.

History:

Willam grew up as second best, his stronger, smarter, younger brother came back always impressing before going off out into the world again on some new adventure, so it seemed to Willam. He was stuck at home learning politics, tactics and any manner of other boring things.

Essentially he grew up as an only child; for the most part his friends were smallfolk, children from Wintertown and he struggled to truly feel like one of them. Each seemed to be scared when he was around, fearing some punishment and walking on eggshells in case they made a wrong move.

Turning eighteen he had an arranged marriage to an older Bolton girl named Marya; she'd spent most of her life down south where she had fallen for a man named Roryn. As a result she resented both the north and her snivelling little husband, of which the five year age gap was particularly prominent at that point.

They had two children a few years after that, some rumours float around the their conception wasn't entirely consentful, but both deny them. Shortly afterwards Willam was sent to Dorne to help quell the rebellion, leaving his two children behind. Mentally he seemed well suited to war but suffered a spear wound across his cheek which still marks him today; the blade had mild poison on it and the young Stark was sent home before the Dornish campaign really began.

Upon returning he and Marya had entered a sort of truce for the children's sake, at that point he was practically a stranger to the boy Cregan, but got increasingly attached to his younger daughter Anna. After the war ended his brother Artos returned as a septon to the surprise of all and Willam especially gave him the cold shoulder for his new religion, possibly being unused to becoming the favoured son.

As years passed Willam's mother died quite suddenly which hit Willam hard, but unbeknownst to him the death would cost him two parents. They say husbands never survive a widows life for long and soon Ernus Stark began to suffer dementia (whatever the in-universe term would be). At first Willam tried to look past his fathers odd behaviour pretending he was imagining it, that gave way to hoping it would pass before he eventually accepted that the man he once loved was gone.

Two years Ernus has suffered and for two years house Stark has declined with him. Willam only able to watch, coming more and more to hate the thing that sat where his lord father once did. He has done his best in this time to keep Ernus out of the public eye and to contain the knowledge of his illness to within the household, but he knows he and his father are fighting a losing battle.

Age: 42

House/Affilitation: House Stark, Bolton before she married.

Personality:
If there is a word to describe Bethan its bitter. Over 15 years of marriage has done little to soften her animosity toward the Starks and those she lives with, still pining for her old life back in Kings-Landing.

There was never any real love between Willam and her, they both knew her purpose was as a peacewager and nothing more. Bethan never respected him, seeing him as quite cowardly and weak in her eyes, a lot of that to do with him not being the lord of Winterun at the time, only a first son. The two children however have brought them together and in a sense are the only thing still keeping them together.

She loves both her children but has a particular attachment to Cregan as when he was born the boy was the only thing she could love about Winterfell and emotionally she clung to him. Its because of the children mainly that she keeps her disdain for Willam to a more underhanded affair and generally undermines him more with her tone than her words or actions.

Before marrying Bethan was a Bolton, something that's earned her a bit of a wary reputation among the castle, she often plays up to this but in truth she only spent a limited amount of her time with the Boltons most was among the south living a very aristocratic life, she in fact loathes her father almost as much as Willam.

Appearance:
Bethan is someone who would probably be called beautiful if she would only just smile. Her lips always seem to be tight with anger and she has a sharp chin that accentuates this. Black chest length hair with a touch of red in it that frames her somewhat icy glare and highlights her pale complexion.

Despite her loathing of the circumstances she seems to make a noticeable effort to look nice, possibly to spite her husband. Bethan's hair is never in disarray and she usually dresses in quite fine gowns. Her voice always seems very strained as though shes always choking back a retort or an angry outburst.

Biography:
Wind the clock twenty years back and there's talk of the Boltons rebelling; no actions, the lords never mentioned anything really, tactics were never discussed. But there was talk and whoever said words are wind was a fool.

Bethan Bolton was far from all of this, currently staying at Kings-Landing in the south, deep in love with a man named Roryn and living happily when the raven arrived. The two respective head of houses had met to resolve the situation before it could escalate. It was decided that a marriage would be the best way to assure peace and so Stark offered up his eldest son, Bolton his Eldest daughter.

In the next few weeks she lost her home, her friends, her love and her maidenhood in exchange for a cold seat next to what she considered a sniveling little lords son. First she was uncooperative, that clearly couldn't last, then she moved onto anger, that too couldn't be maintained after the first child, so at last she settled for icy disdain, unwilling to give the Starks the satisfaction of breaking her.

There was something of a war between Bethan and Willam for a time for the affection of their children not backing down despite the mental scars it dealt the two young ones. In the end while neither hold any hostility to either parent Cregan does favor his mother slightly while Anna the father. And so life goes on in the household there is still a tension between the married couple but its reduced to a much more underhanded affair and Bethan will perform the bare-minimum duties expected of her becoming somewhat more acceptant of the situation.

Age: 16

Personality:
Cregan is a shy boy, not afraid of company exactly but just very quiet when he's in it. Generally happy simply to listen and often feels put on the spot when talked to by someone he doesn't know well. Not particularly bright in any respect being slow at his studies and not in any way cunning. But at his heart Greg is a good person though he hasn't really had any difficult decisions to make throughout his somewhat sheltered life.

Of the two parents he gets along better with his mother who's very warm to him while his father generally spends more time trying to get the boy out of his shell and mold him into a man, their relationship can sometimes feel forced. He is close with his sister who, is one of the few people he will genuinely open up to and is visibly emotional with. The two's relationship strengthened due to the fact they were caught in the middle of the conflict between their parents.

What belies his very passive nature is that the lad has an incredible gift for combat. Possibly related to the fact that he has always been big for his age and so was made to train with older boys, Greg, though still young, is considered to have a real natural aptitude for the blade; something his father has high hopes about. He gets along well with Coltor the master at arms in a sort of uncle like relationship, Coltor likes to talk and Greg likes to listen. Hes also been, not unlovingly, referred to as the silent swordsman due to his shy nature; he doesn't dislike training and the sword but probably wouldn't do it as much by his own accord.

Appearance:
Tall for his age Cregan is often mistaken for being around 18 years old, he is lanky but not in the angular fashion of his father, more sinewy and wired. He walks with a smooth step but his arms tend to jangle about giving the impression of clumsiness.

He has a soft, open face and an easy dumb smile, his skin is a sort of pale tanned from the amount of outdoor training he does. Unkempt dark brown hair falls down to his shoulders and frequently hes brushing it out of his eyes.

Clothes wise Cregan mostly dresses very plainly and functional unless his mother makes him more formal southern wear which she usually picks out, when that happens there is a notable difference in appearance from a scraggy lad to a more highborn lord.

History:
The first child of Willam and Marya Stark, the birth reconciled the two for a while and firmly sealed her loyalty, if somewhat unwillingly, to the Starks. Growing up Willam had high expectations for his heir and from an early age began to groom him for lordship, it was probably this pressure that lead to a lot of Cregan's shyness and partly to the unease he sometimes feels around his father. He bonded with his mother more; this was partly to do with the fact he was one of the few things in Winterfell she didn't resent and caused her to dote on him early in life.

After what happened to Artos, Willam decided to keep a right reign on Cregan and he ended rarely leaving Winterfell while growing up. He's grown curious about the outside world fueled by his mothers tales he dreams of going on adventures.

He was about eight when Cregan began training in combat and ten when they realized he was something of a prodigy with the sword. His father wasted no time and hired once famous knight, Bulwark to be the new master-at-arms and hopefully train Cregan into a formidable warrior. Willam insists on focusing the training on great-swords in the hopes of soon passing the valyrian steel forged Ice onto his son, in the hopes he will bring renown to the house.

Age: 13

Personality:
Anna generally tries to be mature for her age, though lacks the experience to pull it off effectively. She has a bossy nature, particularly when it comes to her older brother, and is generally quite a strong character. She sees herself as quite dutiful, a trait from her father and tries to be as 'proper' as she can.

Anna was affected badly by her grandfather's deterioration as they were close beforehand and she previously enjoyed his stories. Now she probably spends the most time caring for him and is the only one still with any real hope that she might recover. This has opened up a nursing side to her that wasn't really there before and in the days of Ernus' illness she has very much become her own person.

Appearance:
A haughty, primly manner; Anna takes after her mother more on looks, she has the same reddish black hair and deep blue eyes. Her skin is a little more tanned though and her manner is far more gentle. She looks as though she will grow up to be, if not beautiful, then certainly attractive.

A skinny girl and she is a girl despite how she dresses and sometimes acts and dresses like a lady. Anna has wide serious eyes and has an almost mockingly stern look when she wants something done her way.

Age: 33

House/Affiliation: Younger brother of Lord Willam Stark, currently serves in the household.

Personality:
Artos comes across as a jolly and usually quite passive chap, he has a strong genuine faith in the seven, despite his families misgivings about it and spends a lot of time talking to the other Starks, as well as anyone who will listen, about his new found religion. This created tension after the death of his mother though, as he wanted to perform rites of the seven for her but Willam would not allow it.

Internally though Artos suffers from a strong feeling of displacement, too northern for the south and too southern for the north, the fact his family and in particular his brother Willam have given him something of the cold shoulder has only increased the feeling. His response to this and also his fathers recent illness has been to act with an almost unnaturally upbeat attitude to life, something which again grates his brother.

Going into the characters real motivations, Artos suffers a lot of guilt from the Dornish war some years ago which deep down he is still unable to get past. He tries to hide that darker side of himself with his zealous worship, but its ever lurking at the back of his mind. Occasionally this will cause him to lapse into a depression if strongly reminded of the events, but tries hard not to show it when he does.

He is noted for his patience and kindness, particularly when compared to Willam's somewhat callous ways and is heavily pacifistic refusing even to hold a weapon. His mannerisms may seem somewhat pampered and he will put morals and faith before all else, again a stark (I'm hilarious) contrast to his brother who thinks along an 'ends justify the means' mind-track.

Appearance:
At first glance you could be forgiven for seeing Artos as simply being another softened septon, but another look and one starts to question that first assumption. There's a certain callousness about the man's body that isn't immediately obvious, perhaps its his passive manner that hides it, or his gentle step. But its there.

Take a little longer to study Artos and you'd start to see what you once thought fat is actually built up muscle of quite a big man hidden under layers of white robe. He has large weathered hands, thick shoulders and standing at about 5'11 he couldn't be considered short.

Talking to the man though can make you forget these things, all his mannerisms as well as his shaved bald head and round open eyes reinforce that first perception of a gentle septon. He also walks quite cautiously and slowly which seems to undermine his actual age and fitness. His voice lies somewhere between Ned Stark and Varys from the HBO adaption.

Biography:
Lord Ernus Stark, decided to groom his second son for an advisory position to the first. As a result while Willam spent most of his childhood in Winterfell, Artos was shipped between various houses in order to gain a wider experience of the world to better him for diplomatic duties.

As he Grew up though he quickly became seen by many as the greater of the two sons, more social than the somewhat reclusive Willam, Artos also took to the sword much better than his older brother and was seen as a more charismatic leader. It was this hidden favoritism that made Ernus Stark bring him to Dorne when the banners were called to quell the rebellion, when in truth the boy was too young for war.

The particularly bloody conflict scarred the young Stark, though he was largely successful he left questioning his actions and more so his purpose, struggling to get over taking another mans life.

On the road north back to Winterfell Artos met and shared the road with with an old septon named Pendry. After long talks together and some inner reflection, the idea of faith seemed to fill a void left in him from Dorne. Artos renounced his blade and gave his life to the seven, vowing to become a septon for the rest of his life.

His family was less than pleased. It wasn't so much that the Stark family had anything against the religion of the Andals, but they were very proud of still keeping to the Old Gods and saw it as a betrayal of their ways and culture. Artos however was resolute, he went into deep study of the Seven Pointed Star, began preaching his faith to any that would listen and tried to petition his father to build a sept in Winterfell. As such he went from being the favored son to something of an embarrassment to the house and behind his back some called him Artos the southern.

Over the next few years Artos flat out refused any talk of marriages and it soon became clear him becoming a septon was not simply some phase, a wedge was formed between him and his older brother when Willam forbid him from performing rights of the seven over their mother when she died. However they were reconciled slightly in the coming years when Lord Ernus' dementia began to get the better of him and Artos' care and patience for their father helped both of them through it.

Personality:
There was a time when Colt liked nothing more than a good fight, to crush a softer man underfoot and ride home with his dangerous reputation. Times change though and the years have grown weary, turned him more philosophical, his once fierce blood-lust seeming more like a stupid thing from his younger days. More and more he feels himself becoming a faded legend and the growing decay of his body (he recently suffers from arthritis) is something he can no longer pretend isn't there, though he does try.

Since he was young he'd always been mindful of his reputation, fabricating it far beyond his own skill level. He continues to do so now but he does it more to feel as though all those years building it up weren't just wasted and partly to try and fool himself into thinking the glory days aren't over yet, he's a man who spends a lot of time living in the past. This results in him appearing quite proud, he attempts to shrug off tasks that are beyond him and often tries to act as a younger man.

Bulwark has always been a physical man, prone to violent outbursts he's always sure to make his potential is known to whichever company he's in. A big selling point for him is his reputation and intimidation value, they are often enough to steer away a potential fight something he prays will continue to work.

Appearance:
Colt is a very stocky man, barrel chested with imposingly large arms and thick strong legs. He's not particularly tall, standing just shy of 5'6 but this adds to the sense of bulkiness he puts across.

Features wise Bulwark's slab like head is always closely shaved, small ears and quite a squintish gaze give him the impression of being not a particularly bright man. Its clear age has begun to take a definite toll on the him, there are bags under his eyes, wrinkles have begun to mesh with his many small scars and in places his skin is sagging.

Most of the time he is found to be wearing his very distinctive stylized armor and trademark bull-horned helmet. Weapons wise he wields a heavy kite shield and a cruel looking spiked mace which has caved in the helmet of many an adversary. Voice wise he sounds very similar to Zaeed Massani from Mass Effect.

History:
They say the mighty Bulwark was a son of a mountain clan chief whom he killed while still just boy, or he was a great Skagosi warrior that came to butcher inlanders; even that he was an Ironborn so fearsome he was exiled from the Iron Islands themselves. The truth is Coll came from a merchant family in Gulltown that dreamed of greater things.

Rather than Lord Glover being so terrified of facing the warrior he was forced to accept him into the household, in actual fact money changed hands and Coll was accepted into service at Deepwood Motte. There he learnt the arts of fighting developed his style, selected his weapon (spiked mace) and began trying to make a name for himself like many other wannabe heroes.

Bulwark spent a lot of his younger days chasing adventure wherever he could find it and nearly becoming a head shorter several times along the way. He soon came to learn though that the secret to a reputation isn't just dependent on how good a fighter you are, but how memorable you make yourself. It wasn't long afterwards that Coll styled himself as Bulwark, with an imposing horned helmet along with a blood thirsty, overly viscous style. People ate it up, they liked a hero but they also liked a monster and the latter was easy to fulfill.

His days were then spent keeping his reputation intact, he was popular as a bodyguard for lords as his distinctive outline caused some measure of fear. He tried to keep away from tournaments lest people catch on that while he was certainly very brutal, he may have been lacking slightly in skill.

Blood, death, screams, applause, it all passed him eventually. Coll found himself getting old, his endurance didn't run as far and felt like his joints were becoming rusted (arthritis). Gradually, gradually Bulwark seemed to fade from the scene, leaving him empty at the same time.

A day came though when a letter arrived from Willam Stark; the lord of Winterfell wanted a master-at-arms to make his son into a man and train him to fight, he thought Bulwark to be the one to do it. It could mean a lot of things, a way back into the fold, an aging death, he didn't know, but it was something, Coll needed somthing.

Darren hails from Slateport City in the Hoenn region. While a young boy he was given an itemfinder for his birthday and discovered a love for searching the local beach everyday to find old discarded treasures. As he grew so did his hobby and it wasn't long before Darren was saving up for trips to ruins and archaeological digs, he seemed to find his niche is exploration and uncovering the past.
His parents, both dockworkers didn't exactly approve of his obsession, thinking it a bit odd, but they couldn't really do anything to stop Darren's enthusiasm. Eventually as he started to explore caves and unmapped areas though they worried for his safety, deciding it was time for his first pokemon. After that it was only a matter of time before he enrolled at the academy.

Personality:
Darren's a nice guy, smiles often, quite chatty, quite passive, sometimes prone to nervous laughter. After spending time with him though its clear he's someone who gets lost in his own thoughts quite a lot and often has to be reminded to pay attention to whats around him. Its not immediately obvious but he's quite an obsessive and there's a slightly darker side to him when it becomes clear just how far that obsession can go.

Months of saving and a lifetime of bugging his parents took Darren to Johto and the mysterious ruins of Alph. He explored for what felt like an age but went by far too quickly, enjoying it and every inch in his element, up until he got lost. The map didn't seem to mark his position and there was a certain oddness about the area. Eventually he came to a vast wall covered in symbols, at the center was a small indent where it looked like one was missing. It was then he heard the sound, eerie and low from somewhere in the ruin; gingerly he followed it to the source and came across a dark, hidden alcove. Within, a solitary Unown hung in the air.
An otherworldly pokemon (literally), Unown rarely makes a sound and has a habit of wondering off on its own accord. Darren generally keeps it out of its pokeball in order to study it, he's noticed it can be fascinated by seemingly mundane things.

Darren's first pokemon. While growing up his explorations grew more and more adventurous which led his parents to grow more and more worried. Eventually they resolved that he needed a pokemon to guard their son and act as a companion. His father made a deal with a sailor passing through slateport and bought a Kecleon he had captured on his journey.
It soon came to light why the Kecleon had come so cheap though, Kecleon's camouflage ability wasn't exactly 100%, it could actually only turn purple. His father was furious but Darren took to liking it all the same, the Kecleon was enthusiastic and curious just like him, though it was more nervous and easily scared, also the tongue reminded him of a whip.

See above. Ant is short at 5'3 and quite skinny for his age, he has large round spectacles and generally wears a typical loose clothing of a bug catcher along with wide brimmed hat and a net. Not meant to be quite as creepy as the image above, but that general feel.

Personality:
Anthony gives off an odd vibe of someone who's perhaps spent a little too much time with insects, to the point where he starts to look a bit like one. He is a bit of an obsessive who's fixed on categorizing and analyzing every little thing. While reclusive he's far from shy, being filled with nationalist pride for his home sector and angered by how bug pokemon are often looked down upon; determined that they can be the best, though he accepts it may not be through conventional means.

Suffers from a bit of a Napoleon complex, he often tries to make up for insecurities about his height and relative weakness of the bug type by being especially headstrong. He's isn't exceptionally intelligent though Anthony does possess a certain cunning and determination that usually sees him through. Generally has quite a dry, observational humor and has a habit of talking to himself from time to time with his voice recorder making notes about things or people.

Brief Bio:
Growing up in a fairly rural area Ant spent much of his childhood in the dense forests that surrounded his home village, studying the areas bug pokemon as well as different types of berries. His father Warren was something of a local-legend as a battling expert with his signature shiny Beedrill; while Ant himself didn't take part in pokemon training or battling he looked up to his father as a role-model.

One day a group of travelers from the rock sector passed through their village, while generally getting along well with the locals they kept making off the cuff jokes about the weakness of Bug type pokemon, as things got a little more heated Ant's father was challenged to a contest by one of the group heads. It was a defining moment for Anthony, his Father Warren he'd seen as a symbol of security and invincibility was completely destroyed in battle. Ant looked on in shock as his father's renowned Beedrill was taken out almost effortlessly by the opposing Golem; the Rock sector group made their apologies that the situation had grown so out of hand and left shortly afterwards but the moral damage was already done.

Anthony then started to see how low Bug pokemon were thought of in the grand scheme of things and became determined to change that.

Appearance:
Easily his most distinguishing feature is Toelin's milky-white eye and the scar running down it, along with the general callous state of the right side of his body. Blinded and crippled for most of his life, Toelin has never made any attempt to hide his disfigurement instead displaying it prominently almost as a badge of pride. His movement is hindered by a very noticeable limp which causes him pain and means at best he can move at little more than a jog. Besides these though he has all the signs of a relatively pampered lifestyle, smooth skin and a well fed physique, though it wouldn't be very noticeable to a non-Salarian. He has slightly tan colored skin for his species and usually wears a green-brown political robe.


Biography:
30 years ago a single video spread across Citadel space. Governments across the galaxy had began preparations to mobilize their militarys in the event they were to be involved in what would later become known as the first contact war. The video was of poor quality showing a group of protesters huddled outside an army facility as a convoy of transportation vehicles prepared to leave. The protesters reluctantly gave way as the machines approached, bar one. A young Salarian blocked the path of the transportation convoy forcing it to halt and stopping any attempts for to get by. For five minutes the anonymous Salarian refused to move out of the way in a stand off with the vehicle before eventually being shot down by security personal and dragged off.

Though a relatively minor event the footage spread across the net and became a rallying point for protests and opposition to the first contact war. The Salarian became known simply as "Protester" and sparked outrage from the public and various private media companies. Eventually the council opted to end the first contact war and start a dialog with humanity. After the incident was resolved Protester was hailed as a hero and many campaigns of 'free protester' sprang up among peace groups. The identity was revealed to be that of Toelin Maras who was shortly revealed from detainment by the authorities of that world. Unfortunately the incident had left him badly injured, blind in one eye and walking with a noticeable limp. However for Toelin it was the start of a career in public speaking and using his now symbolic status to back various causes.

Toelin became a notable figure within Salarian media, riding off the incident he made many speeches and aided other pacifistic demonstrations. Any charity would benefit from his endorsement, though at the same time still remained within the shadow of his initial protest. As the years wore on Toelin began to feel more and more used, public figures and politicians would queue up to be photographed shaking his hand but not many people seemed to listen to what he actually said; Toelin began to feel less like a person and more simply a symbol to be paraded about. That all changed when he entered politics.

While in Salarian society he was limited by his gender and family ties to simply being a public figure, within more Citadel influenced worlds he was able to gain more of a foothold, the democratic nature of citadel politics combined with his popularity and reputation meant his rise was virtually unopposed. Eventually he found himself as one of the left-wing representative ambassadors for the Salarians on the citadel. Toelin championed peace whenever possible the philosophy of the best war is one that is never fought. Known for his patience and often mediated stances Toelin did however lose popularity in the wake of the Reaper invasion and his disarming policies of the past brought about grumblings from many, causing even Toelin to begin to rethink his philosophy.

Before Toelin could truly think over his stances though it was decided that after the loss of many Salarian politicians aboard the Citadel and the relays being down Toelin was to be made Councilor for the Salarian race. In the chaos that came from the end of the invasion the Salarian government has hopes that Toelin will be able to prevent or at least minimize further conflict in the galaxy and maintain a balance of power between the races.

Son of a Boss

Name: Lau Feng

Profession/vocation: Son and enforcer of opium den merchant/crime boss

Affiliation:
- Criminal underworld: Dealing in opium and other services the Feng family provides aren't illegal per-say, but their business does at times chafe under the law and they are involved in and acquainted with many of the less reputable operations in Kingstone, such as gunpowder manufacture. It's only fear of the Inquisition that stops the Fengs from going too far in their methods.
- Merchant class: Despite the Feng family being wealthier than some lower nobility, the fact they are low born and also foreign immigrants makes them only little better than working class in social standing. Both Lau and his family seek the recognition and esteem of being part of the nobility, they and other well off bourgeois families often try to imitate their betters, throwing balls and living in manses.
- Harbour: The Feng family mostly operate in and around the Kingstone docks area owning several vessels which can double as floating opium dens.
- Nanmantown: A sector of the Old Commons, the hub of many opium dens and illicit activities in the city, the Feng family have much influence on the immigrants there.

Skills/Traits:
- Opium addict: If Lau isn't exactly a junkie then he's pretty close, he considers a bad day to be where he hasn't smoked the poppy and after two or three days without he starts to develop withdrawal symptoms.
- Trained Swordsman: Lau was instructed from an early age in the use of a Jian sword which he often carries with him; while arguably an inferior weapon to the rapier, many who are not used to fighting against one might be caught off guard. In recent years his training has lulled somewhat.
- Big Mouth: For better or worse Lau has a difficult time keeping his mouth shut, at times he can have a silver tongue but just as often it gets him into trouble.
- Confidence: A life of intimidation and growing up around people who fear your family has instilled a lot of this young Lau, he doesn't scare easy but then he doesn't always know when to back down from a fight.
- Martial Artist: Lau has been taught in martial arts of his native Nanman, covering close combat and acrobatics. He carries an iron fan which, when not wafting himself with it, can be used effectively in his off hand.

Personality:
The philosopher-junkie, brat child and overall hedonistic son of feared crime boss Jun Feng, the White Snake. Neither British nor Nanmane, upper-class or lower-class, traditional or modern, Lau suffers from an identity crisis in some ways embodying the disheveled state of his families native Nanman, his solution is opium. The drug seems to seep the emotion out of him and set him at peace to see things clearly, correct or not this has given him quite a negative nihilistic outlook on life and his response was simply to stop caring and try to live in the now. Deep down Lau would like to move out of the shadow cast by his father and his family, though he can't quite bring himself to give up the trappings of wealth and power that come with his connections; he's searching for something to believe in and care about beyond just the next pipe.

As a result of his outlook and his position in life Lau is quite brazen and cocky, more than happy to make fun of anyone and anything that crosses his path, he is a loud mouth and smart-alec who seem to leak arrogance and is able to talk for hours if no-one stops him. He often muses aloud to himself and enjoys finding out what makes people tick as well as generally trying to bring them down to his level, part of what makes him an effective enforcer. Too long on the poppy and in a happy cushion of safety though have disillusioned him somewhat, in his mind he is fearless and invincible but reality has yet to really bite him hard yet.

Biography:
It was almost forty years ago now, at the defeat and humiliation of the British, Nanman at last opened its borders and waves of immigrants spilled out, a young Jun Feng stepped onto the docks of Kingstone with a mind to go places. Since then the Feng syndicate has risen in prominence to control the vast majority of opium dens in Kingstone; centered in the city Nanmantown and the docks, they have a number of trading vessels and hold large sway over the immigrant population of the city.

So growing up Lau wanted for nothing, at least materialistically, he was instructed to speak and write both English and Nanmane and his education included the traditional martial arts of his home country, as well as various other subjects including subtle instructions on how to run the syndicate from his father, the White Snake. Things changed once Lau entered his teens though, it became apparent to him that despite all his family had achieved they were still looked down upon by many members of society, either for their social rank, ethnicity, or the nature of their business, more and more Lau began to see the Feng's as simply an empire of dirt.

Lau began to treat his family and father with increased disdain, tired of living in their shadow. Jun his father was in turn deeply hurt and continued to try and be supportive of his son which in a way distanced them further, that was when Lau tried opium. The drug wasn't so much an escape but a way for Lau to see things from a distance, it drained out his emotion and allowed him to think without the clutter in his mind. As Lau's addiction grew his outlook on life changed, Lau lost his anger and rebellious nature and began to see life more as absurdity, in general he just stopped caring and adopted a much more hedonistic and nihilistic approach to living. Dismayed at his sons downfall Jun enlisted a bodyguard to be with him almost at all times to watch over him and brought Lau back into the family business at the admittedly much lower rank of just an enforcer and general task doer in an attempt to ween him into having responsibility.



Accompanying Short CS: The White Snake of Nanman

Personality:
Jun's personality lies on opposite ends of the spectrum, on the one hand he is a very stern, driven man in business dealings, adopting a serene mask who could offer you tea or order your execution with the same amiable tone of voice. When it comes to family and personal matters though Jun is much more emotional and sincere, he considers everything he has done thus far in his opium empire to be for his family and is very protective of them and despite everything highly caring, very much leaving his business persona behind him.

A long term goal for Jun has been acceptance into the nobility, though he recognizes it to be a challenging one, to him that would ensure his families legacy for generations to come. Like many other wealthy merchants he has begun living in a manse and adopting numerous other habits of his betters, a far-fetched goal it may seem but looking back on his humble beggings Jun has learned to set his aim high.

Biography:
Nearly forty years ago a young Jun Feng arrived penniless onto the Kingstone harbor, he and many others had immigrated after their native Nanman had recently lost a major trade dispute with the Union and its government had been dealt a heavy blow in the process, forcing them to open their borders. For Jun it was a new start in life, he'd previously been raised in poverty and hardships in a remote rural area, this was his chance to make himself a better life.

It soon became clear though that foreigners were far from welcomed in Kingstone though and he found himself at the bottom rung of society, but vowing that he would make a better life for his wife and their future family he began making connections with other immigrants in the area which had quickly become known as Namantown. It started innocently enough, Jun began to sell what he called tastes of home, food, clothes, furniture, things that reminded people of the now nostalgic old-country. Everything changed though when he first started selling opium, again starting innocently but he soon realized that its addictive properties and the fact he was the sole seller meant he could charge whatever he wanted, soon he opened an opium den specifically for smoking the substance, then another, then five and so on.

Jun went on to sell his product to non-immigrants, the conditions of the lower classes made them desperate for any brief respite, he even started opening higher class joints with women and gambling on the side to try and attract more wealthy clientele. Seeing off competition Jun's name began to be feared and he earned himself the moniker 'The White Snake of Nanman' in reference to opium as venom, Jun has since adopted it as a symbol for the Feng family.



OOC notes:
- Nanman is for this an equivalent of China which I thought to mirror its real-life counterpart, though a more stereotyped version. Trade disputes with the British occurred some time back culminating in a short but humiliating conflict that forced the Nanmane to open their borders breaking centuries of seclusion, the ruling dynasty is now crumbling apart and many of the population are addicted to opium.
- Wasn't too sure where the setting would stand on the legality of certain things (opium, gun powder manufacture etc), so if there's a conflict there then that can easily be changed like many things here that touch upon lore.

History:

After the attempt to use Madame De Pompadour's brain to repair their ship was foiled by The Doctor, the repair androids shut themselves down having lost their primary directive. Most were destroyed on the orders of the king of France however at least one was saved from that fate and over the next couple of years traded hands between various private collections until it ended up in the ownership of Wolfgang von Kempelen. Kempelen was a genius with clockwork ha made many experimental devices, though the 51st century mechanical were far beyond him and much of the work he did on it was simply blind guessing. In 1770 he presented the Empress of Austria with an automaton he claimed to have built that could play chess against an opponent in an attempt to impress her and the rest of the court.



The automaton named 'The Turk' was an large success across the western world, touring and playing against many famous people including the likes of Napoleon Bonaparte and Benjamin Franklin, despite many lucrative offers though Kempelen kept its workings a closely guarded secret. The truth was that, against all odds, Kempelen had managed to reactivate the android through his tinkering, albeit on a very rudimentary level.

STRENGTH: Not an especially big guy but Reece has a wiry strength about him, certainly stronger than average.
DEXTERITY: Quite nimble, being sure footed and able to move quietly. Agile in fights and when moving through crowds.
CONSTITUTION: Poor, despite looking in top condition Arlan's still mending lightsaber wound causes him a lot of pain when exerting himself, as well as in general and the damage done to his right lung means he becomes short of breath very quickly.
INTELLIGENCE: Arlan has a lot of knowledge about things relating to his career and republic matters, whereas he's quite ignorant on topics like the criminal underworld.
WISDOM: Middling; after his injury Reece is naturally more cautious about life in general, he has a fair bit of experience across the galaxy and is good at thinking on his feet. Given how he has dedicated much of his life to one specific job though he can be quite naive when it comes to a lot of things that fall outside of his scope.

Tardis Alternatives

SIDRAT:
This was a type of knock off Tardis' created by a renegade Timelord known as The War Chief (old series) for a species called the warlords to help with their conquests. SIDRAT's are more primitive than Tardis', having limited range, no chameleon circuit, taking up far more power and being inherently unstable. Also its bigger on the inside than the outside.

Seems likely that an exiled timelord might be able to get their hands on one of these or possibly even build one to suit their needs.
