I see characters similar to that on other's avaters. Are they characters from a show or something?

They're from Homestuck, a webcomic type thingy.

The reason it isn't working is the fact that it's larger than 150x150.
If the avatar is larger than that (or 450kb) then it removes the animation and makes transparency into plain white.
You have to take it into Photoshop and change the image size, which sadly, gets rid of some of the pixels (like the rim of the eyes in mine, and parts of Turts avis' face)
