The year is 2017. Early in the year, all was going normal. The world economy was starting to stabilize and US Forces withdrew from Afghanistan. On Valentine's Day, the first reports started to come in: the dead have begun to rise, and this was called The Awakening. At first, the government claimed hoaxes, then the massive number of reports could not be downplayed any longer.
The Awakening happened all across the world, simultaneously. The more stable governments hid it well while the third world countries felt the effects almost immediately. Within 2 weeks, Pakistan launched a nuclear attack on India who retaliated with an all out invasion. Days later, Iran attempted to send a warhead at Israel, but the device was detonated in the atmosphere.
In the short few months after the invasions and prior to Shut Down (the point at which all of the governments went dark and/or offline), very little research was done. Before all went offline, the Center for Disease Control and Homeland Security compiled the a handful of facts that it sent out as literature and online. They called it The Phoenix Report.
Human finding:
>Humans were found to have an immunity to the infection at about 10-13%.
>No specifics to gender, age, ethnicity or blood type were found.
>A handful of infected who rose ceased activity in a handful of days. It was noted that all of these subjects were over the age of 95 prior to the infection taking over.
>It was noted that the infected would eat any flesh. A subject was even given a completely frozen hunk of hamburger and it spent it's time gnawing on the mass until it's teeth broke, and until it thawed.
>While the infected did not exhibit any strength higher than that of normal humans, they do not feel pain and thus the brain does not stop the body from trying to negate pain. Infected would tear their own arm out of socket, or bite metal until their own jaw broke if that was what was its most immediate obstacle.
>The most immediate manner to neutralize an infected is massive brain trauma. Severing the head will kill the body, but the head will continue to be active. Fire will not necessarily neutralize the infected, but if the fire is hot and constant enough, the first burns away flesh. At this point, since the body still uses the nervous system, if the heat will remove nerves, the body essentially "dies" with the nerves. Also of small note, tasers and electricity did not neutralize the threat, but it DID disturb the nervous system enough to subdue momentarily.
>The infect will reanimate anywhere from 6-20 hours after infection. Initially, the disease was only transmitted by bite but it was discovered that when bitten, the human host then becomes contagious. The infection at this point until reanimation was verified to be transmitted airborne, sexually, and as easily as the common cold.
>No corpse older than 96 hours dead had been confirmed to rise.
>Immune individuals have been exposed to all forms of the disease, including bite and infected blood injection. Results have included: nothing, nausea, fever, upset stomach, cramps and shakes. Miscellaneous findings: Animals are susceptible to infection. >Carnivorous animals were more likely to be affected, but were more resistant to the form if bitten while herbivores and omnivores were generally immunes to all forms save for being bitten.
>It was still not known if this was bacterial or a virus.
>Three forms of infected are verified in humans. Right now these 3 forms have been linked to the blood type of the infected.
Almost immediately, the US government began to isolate individuals who were exposed and immune, trying to find the source of this and mass replicate the results. Wanting to make sure to maximize money and time spent, the individuals who were "tested" (or taken into custody) all had some form of knowledge or special training that, if need be could be taught or used (although the individuals were never told this).
It's now 3 months since Shut Down, and approximately 7 or 8 months after The Rising.
SEASON 2...
A group of people held in a CDC containment facility after the outbreak were shook from their routine one morning when there was a loud, unexpected CLICK at their door. Less than 24 hours, the group was met with obstacles, tragedies and betrayal. There were over a dozen survivors prior to that fateful CLICK.
Now there are 3.
Managing to escape hordes of undead, costly mistakes and each other, the three miraculously piloted a helicopter off to what they thought was safety only to realize that the machine was critically low on fuel. They successfully guided the bird well enough to avoid an all out fatal crash, but the chopper made a hard landing in some mud and water. Luckily there were only fumes left, because a small fire broke out immediately that otherwise would have exploded at some point.
Instead, the survivors were strapped into the bird and their status was unknown.
The world had been changed forever. Humans were now a minority and undead zombie hordes ate everything in their path.
No government.
No cure.
No hope.
No future.
All you could do was survive.
READ THESE RP EXPECTATIONS
>Ok. I may come off as a dick here. But if you are the type to lose interest quickly, if you need to be pulled back into story lines or if you leave storylines for no reason, then DO NOT WASTE MY TIME, YOUR TIME OR ANYONE ELSE’S HERE.
I would rather have 3 or 4 avid RPers than have a dozen shitty, half ass players who leave two months.
>UNDERSTAND THIS: This is my storyline. I have the final say in anything. Read any of my other RPs in my signature and you’ll see that this is only important to remember if you’re an asshat or a douche bag. I have not had to utilize any of my powers of absolution yet, so I hope that remains the same.
>I do not require X amounts of posts per day/week or whatever. I ask that you be active and BE UNDERSTANDING. And I will do the same. I understand people have school, kids, jobs and hobbies and lives and other shit. If you are leaving for a bit (NOT just not wanting to post) then let me know. We’ll move the story along without you. Not in a negative way. Just let everything else and your char will be used in more of an NPC role for the duration of your absence.
>I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO KILL OFF YOUR CHARACTER. And I will if need be. Now, I hope you all know I’m not petty, or immature or in a rush to kill off chars or ruin my image or that of my storylines. This is reserved for you people (because even with the above mentioned information, SOME OF YOU will go ghost) who disappear. I’m not saying the moment you don’t post for a week I’m killing your char, but when I see you posting elsewhere and not responding…well, heads up homeslice, your char is gunna die.
>I understand some people can type better than others, and that we all have different typing styles. I ask that you stay grammatically coherent and have a grasp of spelling. I’ve RP’d with English-second-language people before, it’s nothing major. Just pay attention.
>I WILL MODE/FORCE ACTIONS. I expect you to also. With that said, again I say this, be understanding. If my character and yours are walking around and you’re falls in a ditch, I may shoot my hand out and SAY you grab mine, then even have a dialogue. As long as it’s not making MAJOR decisions for your character, then we need to work together. Hand in hand with that, if I DO post and your character says or does something that has your head spinning, RESPECTFULLY mention it. And I expect people to work together.
The reason for this is that if your characters are engaging in a conversation, it could last 18 posts, with lots of “thinking” and “adjusting” and “coughing” in between the one or two sentences shared between characters. I’m trying to avoid the story becoming stagnant.
Feel free to ask about this if it’s unclear. I’d rather explain confusion now than in the middle of posts.
>I encourage you all to work out your own twists, secrets or events either in OOC or if you wanna get all spy-like and the such, via PM. Again, you do NOT need to ask me about anything really, unless it’s something major, but always feel FREE to ask.
>And the usual:
no god moding.
no MAJOR forced actions on other characters (I define "major" so again, talk to each other) without theirs or MY permission.
While characters don't need to respect each other, the players do.
Rules are not limited to those above.

Infected Bestiary:
The Infected: There are a handful of names for the infected including but not limited to: the infected, reanimates (RAs), the risen, zombies, undead, UPOS (undead pieces of shit) and the brain gang (for large groups). All types of the infected eat flesh. It can be decayed, rotten or cooked. While they all share those characteristics, some have more unique ones (see types below). All of the infected can be killed with massive brain trauma, this means you could literally beat the shit out of a zombie to death with your hands (this is not recommended).
The risen live the life span of a normal adult. That means after about 100 years, this infection should (hypothetically) wipe itself out for the most part.
Once a corpse rises, it does not gain any superhuman powers. However, something very important must be considered: zombies feel no pain and have no fear. This gives them more strength than a “normal” human. Pain thresholds stop humans from doing many things, but when there is nothing to tell the body, “HEY. Don’t smash your head against that bulletproof glass to eat the human on the other side. It will hurt, and possible make you dead,” then there is nothing to stop the human from trying to run through the glass with its face. Over and over again until one gives. A normal human wouldn’t try to squeeze their body through a 1 inch slit to get at meat. An infected would gladly try, regardless of the damage incurred.
The few studies that yielded information on the risen showed that zombie types differed by blood type. Those types are as follows:
(O blood type, approx 43% of Americans): This type of zombie is slow, dumb and come in great numbers. They are commonly referred to as “ones” or “unos.” They share many similarities with RA2 (A blood type, see below). They can vocalize moans and do so when they see prey. They react vaguely to smell and hearing to the degree that they will turn their heads. While they do not associate, say music with humans and meat, they are naturally drawn to sounds. They DO react to site. It is suspected that RA1 and RA2 have a slight form of heat vision. One study in Germany showed them react to heat signatures of human silouttes at up to 8 feet. This study was not fully researched prior to its…untimely closing. These RAs are not smart, as mentioned, and can hardly negotiate up/down stairs (which usually constitutes them falling down stairs. To move up, they either crawl or a mass of bodies stacks and actually allows the zombies in the back to crawl up the mass).
(A blood type, approx 41% of Americans): this type is very similar to RA1 but a little smarter. They move a little bit faster and are drawn to things a lot more quickly than Ones. They also react to one another more distinctly than Ones. Field studies have shown that a mass of Ones and Twos moving together will walk without much purpose or direction. But if one of the Twos see prey or meat, they will break off and all of the other Twos (within 5 or so feet) seem to gravitate together while the mass of Ones continue on. This happens even when the other RA2s are out of sight, smell and hearing, and scientists have no theories to the manner of communication that takes place that allows this.
(B blood type, approx 11% of Americans): RA3s are commonly referred to as Threes, joggers or Q1s (quick ones). These are a bit smarter than Ones and Twos and also a lot more aggressive and quick. Most studies found that Threes had a tendency to band together with more of a pack nature. In fact, they have been known to occasionally feed on Ones and Twos. They have been known to easily climb stairs and even climb over low walls. Similar to the Twos, they seem to be able to react as a group to one individual, and they have been documented to do so at distances of up to 15 feet. On rare occasion, this type has been known to stop and feed on non-Three infected.
(AB blood type, approx 5% of Americans): Fours are the scariest of the infected individually. They are called horsemen (a connection to the Four Horsemen), clickers (when excited, they have a tendancy to clack or chatter their teeth) and breathers (they always breath loud and deep and almost sound like they are wheezing or choking). They are fast and have an animalistic intelligence, having been known to follow prey for periods of time and waiting for individuals to become isolated. Unique to all other forms of RAs is that this type will kill anything, including other infected openly and aggressively. They do not kill one another however and groups of up to 3 have been sighted. Also unique to this class is that any creature bitten but NOT KILLED will become an RA4. However, if a human is bitten and dies, it will reanimate according to blood class.

>Do not post in the IC until I APPROVE YOU!
>Nothing in the OOC is official in terms of character bios/profiles. In my signature, there is a CAST OF CHARACTER thread for season 1. I'll be doing something similar with S2 very shortly.
>IMPORTANT! Prior to me approving ANY NEW PLAYER, I want a sample post. As stated, I want this post to be >A< (doesn't have to be YOUR character) person's first encounter with a zombie.
>Feel free to make up to 2 characters.
>ONCE APPROVED, you can post at any time in the IC, HOWEVER, do not meet up with the SEASON 1 SURVIVORS until I distinctly say so IN THIS POST!! I want the story to be chronologically linear, so I don't want characters just meeting mine before other players have a chance to figure out what's going on and potentially group.

>Roleplaygateway page open for OOC chat. Please try to keep the actual OOC going though. The more people see us, the more likely we are to get new members.

Hey everyone! I'm currently in the trenches of finals week at Uni, so I won't be around as often as I'd like to be. If my responses are slow; I assure you, I am not ignoring you. Promise! I'm just super crunched for time, so please bear with me!
You guys don't have to reserve, I recommend you just post your bios when you finish them. We don't have a limit so long as you're active. ^_^ Can't wait to see them. And I absolutely cannot wait for this IC!

So I'm making breakfast (ok, a super late lunch) and he goes to grab the last bottle of cherry limeade, and I tell him 'that's mine'. So now I'm enjoying some Cherry Limeade with my potatoes. C:
Happy Cara is Happy.
All roles are available. Feel free to make a sexy ass, latex clad hottie if you wanna score some points with me.
Everyone. One requirement that's immediate. Aside from Scout, since he's a season one transplant, please send me an example post. I don't want an old post, so PM me a sample of...
Hmmmm.... A character walking down the street in the early says of The Awakening and encountering their first zombie.
And also, nothing here is official. I'm going to make a separate thread for character bios like in season 1. But post here, by all means. If your have ideas, wanna show off or get ideas, use the FUCK out of the OOC.
All roles are available. Feel free to make a sexy ass, latex clad hottie if you wanna score some points with me.
This would also score points with me! If you think I'm friendly now, wait until you have one of those!
