The reply came back quickly enough, and it probably wasn't something that Nathan wished to hear at all. It did not bode well for Reza. Not at all.

We've met before, kine. The other night. And your friend the Assamite is right here with me. He has a stake through his heart at the moment, so he can't exactly say hello...

His mind flashed to big burly man with the three eyes and the woman that had frozen him in place without even lifting a finger. It was either one of those two and of he had to guess, he was speaking to the woman, though he was not sure at all by this point. His heart pounded as he read what they had done to Reza, they didn't sound like they were lying. Reza could survive with a stake through his heart right? They hadn't killed him yet so he must have been able to. He looked at the text, feeling as helpless as ever.

It struck him that he could just have ignored the text, smash his phone on the floor and get a new number. This had nothing to do with him after all, he could just walk out and forget entirely about vampires and every single thing Reza had told him. Forget the man and return to a fairly normal life, a shame he was far from heartless and not one to leave a friend in trouble.

What the hell do you want? Let him go.

It could be easily imagined that the recipient of the text laughed when that demand arrived. It was a truly fruitless attempt. How could a human truly expect to get a vampire to obey them?

I want information from him, of course. And the satisfaction of breaking him. Once I'm done, I'll certainly let him go. I'm sure he wouldn't mind being dumped on the roof to watch the sunrise.

He tasted blood as he chewed his lip and read the text. This was definitely very bad, extremely totally bad and Nathan was almost completely helpless, almost. He very well couldn't threaten the person and he didn't have a single bargaining chip, could he bluff? He doubted it. A thought did cross his mind though, if Reza's phone was actually traceable or not. He could pull a few strings that mainly involved sneaking into his workplace, but even the small technology they had wasnt very good and even if he somehow managed to trace the number, he could t just run in there guns blazing or anything. He felt like banging his head against a wall, he felt so trapped.

Don't. Please.

Was he really going to resort to pleading now? It was the best an worst option he had.

Why does it matter to you if a vampire lives or dies, kine? And why should I value your opinion at all?

There was a brief pause, then another text came through.

The Bishop has woken him up. Boy doesn't he look surprised. This is going to be so much fun, especially since I just told him you and I are having a little chat. Would you like a play-by-play?

His heart was beating like crazy now and it made him so frustrated to just stand there, so he begun to pace in the dark. His mind was desperately trying to come up a solution or anything. It made him sick to the core to read that second text, to think he could only stand here and know his friend was being tortured or worse, unable to do anything to help. What could he offer or use to threaten? Absolutely nothing.

He would have loved to reply with something along the line of 'you're a sick physco maniac', but that could prompt something bad.

Let him go, he's not going to tell you a thing. Just let him go.

Oh, I very much think he will talk. Do you want to hear him? Wouldn't want you to miss anything.

The phone started ringing for an actual call a moment later, and the caller ID would confirm that it was Reza's phone. Those vampires really were calling Nathan, probably getting a great deal of enjoyment out of making the human squirm.

He nearly dropped his phone when it rang, thankful for quick reflexes though cursing himself for being so clumsy in the first place. He waited a fraction of a heartbeat, unsure if he really wanted to answer the call. Finally he took a deep breath and accepted the call, gingerly pressing the phone to his ear and waiting for the other to speak first.

The first thing Nathan heard when he picked up the phone was some talking going on in the background. The female vampire was speaking to Reza in a low voice, so it wouldn't possible for Nathan to hear what she was saying. But after a moment, her voice became louder.

"You really called the kine? How juvenile of you. Though I suppose it is deliciously cruel to have him listening in..."

Reza's voice snapped back at her, "Leave him out of this!" His voice sounded strained, and something made him give a strangled gasp a moment later.

"I didn't ask for your input, Assamite," the woman hissed. "You know what I want you to say, and that's the only thing allowed to come out of your mouth. Other than screams, of course. I'm sure your little kine friend would love to hear those."

There was a laugh closer to the phone, and the three-eyed vampire's voice said, "I'm sure we'll be getting plenty of those before the night is over."

Nathan gritted his teeth, hearing the voices over the phone, he bit back an insult forming on his tongue. His hand clenched into a fist when he heard Reza gasp and almost a little unconsciously he picked up the man's scimitar from the floor. There was a moment's hesitation before Nathan finally choked out in a small voice, "R-Reza?"
