Nation Name: Zamunda
Nation’s Major Race: Human/Zamundans -Brown skinned and wiry haired humans. The Zamundans are a very robust and vigorous people, made so by their culture and lifestyle.
National Specialty -: The culture of this Nation is highly martial in nature, and is embedded in their lifestyle at all levels. From children's games all the way up to the national past times of ritualistic dueling, and other contests of Martial skill. As a result a number of different approaches, philosophies and styles of combat have been developed.[Special Traits Buff]
Culture -The Nation of Zamunda is a product of the coalescence of two competing cultural groups. The Ase, nomadic pastoralists who wandered the grasslands tending to their large herds of cattle, and the Ode, a group of sedentary farmers who lived inside the forests. The fusion of these two cultural groups produced a nation with varying traditions and outlook. Virility and personal prowess, are highly celebrated, and as such there are many annual tournaments and contests held, showcasing a number of different skills. The Zamundan culture can be generally defined by a dichotmy of two Ires, or "spirits", that are the enduring elements of the original two cultures that gave birth to the nation. Each Ire represents a particular set of principles, themes, and outlooks that comprise the Zamundan way of life. While most Zamundans follow both Ires to some degree, most favor one more so than the other.
- Ode Ire – Is the spirit of stability, balance and mastery of the external world. Those that follow the Ode Ire value having a strong foundation in regards to their endeavors, and mindset. They seek to be well rounded, wishing not to neglect any facet of their existence, and are often quite deliberate and cerebral in their decision making. It is from this Ire that the principles of how society should be governed come from, as well as the traditions of Warriors favoring the Ode Ire tend towards a more balanced approach to combat and strategy, while sometimes slightly favoring defense over offense. The elements of Earth, and wood are associated with this Ire
- Ase Ire - The spirit of change, exploration, and mastery of self. Those that follow the Ase Ire value open mindedness, and the acceptance of multiple possible avenues of progression. They are often very passionate about what interests them, and are aggressive in obtaining what they want or achieving goals. Followers of this Ire often seek personal fulfillment and understanding, finding out who they are and what their strengths are, finding their niche. As they follow the path of self discovery, they seek to capitalize on their strengths as much as possible, taking no time to try and attend to weaknesses. It is from this Ire that the traditions of Pastorlism, and artistry come from, as well as many military principles. Warriors favoring the Ase Ire tend to be specialized in a certain area of combat. Often times they will focus more on offensive tactics.
- Belief System - Zamundans believe that their are two worlds, the physical world in which they live, and a metaphysical world, which is the realm of various spirits. They believe that both worlds are intertwined, and that echoes from one influence the other.
Traditions
- Farming - The cornerstone of Zamundan society, it is the primary source of food production, and the most common primary profession
- Pastoralism - Animal husbandry plays a large role in class distinction in Zamundan society. Those with the capability to raise herd animals are of a higher economic class than those whose sole economic function is farming. While a variety of herd animals are typically raised, from Goats, to sheep, the most prestigious herd animal is the cow. Cattle are seen as symbols of wealth, and as such
- Ritualistic Dueling - The national pastime and overall most popular form of recreation. These duels are not only a test of skill between the combatants, but also as means of practice. Spectating is considered to not only be a form of entertainment, but as a chance to learn by observation. The duels are carried out in a very ritualistic manner, with a structured set of rules that govern them. While the likely hood of minor injury exists, these duels rarely ever result in death.
- Seasonal Tournaments - Each change of the season is marked by a festival centered around a series of Tournaments. These Tournaments are essentially a series of duels, showcasing particular schools of Martial techniques. The Winter Tournament is the pinnacle festival of the year, as those who did well in the previous three tournaments compete for the title of Grand Champion.
- Festival of Fertility - In Zamundan culture, females are sought not only for their beauty, but for their physical prowess as well. It is thought that the physical power of the mother is what determines the warrior strength of a male child, and it is thought that the warrior strength of the father is what determines the physical power of a female child. The Festival of Fertility is an event in which women of marrying age display their physical prowess in a number of different trials. Each trial showcases one of the desired characteristics, speed, agility, dexterity, endurance and lower body strength.
- Gender Roles and attire
Government - The Zamundan nation is a Monarchy, ruled by a Divine King. The Kingship is passed down through blood, the royal family is thought to be connected to the communal spirit of the Zamundan people in the Metaphysical world. Aiding the King is his court, which is composed of several elements.
- Warrior scholar Cults - The Nobles of Zamundan society, just below the royal family. Selected for their intellectual and martial prowess, the men of these cults make up the elite of the elite. The cults serve as the King's officials and Administrators. There are 4 cults, two associated with the Ode Ire, and two associated with the Ase Ire.
- Ode Ire Cults - These two cults are more civic minded, and domestic in nature.
- Cult of Earth - Just as the earth serves as the foundation of the world, so too does the Cult of the Earth serve as the foundation for the Zamundan government. Their realm of influence is infrastructure and city planning.
- The Cult of Wood - Zamundans view trees and the forests as echoes of Guradian spirits here in the physical realm. This cult's realm of influence is the administration of the laws of the kingdom, and domestic security. (Police force basically.)
- Ase Ire Cults - These cults are more militaristic in nature. These two cults have similar realms of influence, the distinction between them being less aparante than in the Ode cults.
- Cult of Fire - A flame is ever expanding, engulfing everything within reach, and so too is the nature of the Cult of Fire.This cult's realm of influence is foreign conquests. They gather information about the territories outside the borders of Zamunda, assessing their worth, and ablity to defend against invasion. This cult is also associated with Infantry.
- Cult of Wind - The word for wind, and the word for horse, or Calvary are the same in Zamunda. The Cult of wind is associated with Calvary, and their field of influence is the security of the edges of Zamundan territory.
- The Grand Shaman -
Representatives of the people. Selected by their peers from their wisdom and expertise in their areas of profession, these individuals serve as advisors to the king, giving him direct insight
National Army
Tier 1
Ode Spearmen – Informally trained in the basic Ode Ire principals of spear and shield fighting through the national pastime of ritualistic dueling. These fighters employ the balanced approach to battle congruent with the principles found within the Ode Ire.
Proficiency - Spear Lv1 Shield Lv1 Armor Lv1. Custom Arms - Lv1: Kapinga - A wicked curved multiple bladed throwing weapon that is carried in the shield. When thrown it can ricochet off of shields to hit nearby enemies, or curve around armor. It is a short range weapon.
Special Trait: Unity of Shielding Lv1: A technique that focuses on unifying the shield use of all the soldiers in the company, each protecting the other using networked shield techniques. This allows them added defensive capability when under fire from ranged attacks. [Missile Defense Buff]
Ase Swordsmen– Fighters who have begun to go down the Ase Ire path of battle. They forgo defense to focus on their offensive capabilities. They wield long two handed double edged swords with wide leafed shaped blades.
Proficiency: Sword Lv2 Armor Lv1
Special Trait – Pressing Attack: Lv1 Employing the aggressive techniques found within the Ase Ire style, these soldiers wade into infantry ranks, using their large two handed swords to attack several enemies at once. [Anti- Infantry buff]
Ode Huntsmen - Hunters who ply their trade both on the battlefield as well as the hunting grounds. Their skill with the bow provides the Zamundan armies with ranged support, and their tracking abilities gives the army vital reconassiance information.
Proficiency: Bow Lv2 Custom Arm: Seeker Hounds Lv1: Large and robust hounds bred for hunting wild boars. While they are lethal in combat, the hounds main function is aiding the hunter in tracking, and locking down game.
Special Trait: Tracking Lv1 - Their skill in hunting in combination with the acute senses of the Seeker hounds allows them to detect enemy forces and track their movements.
Tier 2
Ase Windcutter - Bold Ase Swordsmen who have further specialized their fighting techniques, utilizing a fighting style meant to counter the charge of oncoming cavalry. They wield large curved two handed swords, designed to cleave through both the riders, and their mounts.
Proficiency - Sword Lv2 Armor Lv2
Special Trait - Windcutting style Lv1: The word for Wind and cavalry are the same in the Zamundan language. Windcutting literally means, Cutting cavalry. The windcutting style is a collection of stances and techniques designed for the destruction of mounted warriors. [Anti-Calvary Buff]
Eloko Initiate - Hunters who have proven themselves worthy of being brought into the cult of Eloko, these men make up the lower rungs of the cults ranks. Trained in the art of stealth and subterfuge, these men go into battle wearing only leather gauntlets , greaves and the hide of a black panther.
Proficiencies- Bow Lv2 Sword Lv1 Armor Lv1 Custom Arm - Bota Bombs Lv1 - A bomb made the mixing of several different plants found in the Zamundan forests, they disperses a grey cloud of sparkling smoke upon impact. The smoke not only hinders vision, but it also causes painful irritation to the eyes, throat and nostrils. These bombs are used to disorient enemies.
Special Trait - Way of the Panther Lv1: The Way of the panther is a collection of techniques that allows the practitioner to mimic the stealth of a Panther. [Stealth Buff]
