Astra sat on the floor in front of the couch, her brother had already told her to stay away from the windows and the door. She was flipping through the book she'd taken from the library when he'd come to get her, 'Wild Plants You Can Eat', good thing she'd been looking at it, now it seemed it might actually come in very handy. She tucked it back in her backpack and drew her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms around her legs as she looked towards the windows. They were out there, she could hear those awful, blood curdling screams they made, and the people running away from them. Astra wasn't sure what was going on still, but she knew it wasn't good and that people didn't act like that normally, something was seriously wrong, but her brother hadn't told her much yet. When he picked her up from school he'd just told her to stay with him, it was dangerous and they were going home. She pulled the picture from her bag of their family and clutched it close, wondering if their parents were alright in New York. Mother was a doctor and dad was a lawyer, they worked too much and by the time Astra had come along they really hadn't had much time for another child, so her brother wound up taking care of her for the most part. She glanced towards him, wondering what they were going to do now that they were back at the apartment. She didn't really feel too safe there, even with the door shut, those things were still outside.
