SpoilerLost in Myself...
Name: Shinjurin(Severe pearl), Umeyuka(plum blossom incense).
Alias: Umeyu, Meyu-chan, and of course The Timid Titan.
Height & Weight: She stands at 5'2 and weighs 123 lbs.
Age Appearance: 19.
Rank & Division: Lieutenant of the 1st Division.
SpoilerUmeyuka wears little to none of the traditional shinigami attire, as while she does technically wear a shihakusho, hers has been so heavily modified and stylized that it no longer really looks like one. Her lieutenant badge has also been modified into a necklace that she fashioned herself.
Personality: Umeyuka is a bit of a timid, fragile flower really and despite her huge potential and considerable skill she is more often than not going to try and avoid scary situations. Being a rather diminutive person she often, despite her ambient presence, fades into the background due to her own shyness, a trait that she wishes she could overcome. She makes friends easily, but has trouble approaching people so it can be implied that her efforts to befriend people in the seireitei were certainly acts of courage on her part. Yet despite all this it is apparent that when Umeyuka's friends are insulted or harmed, she can become a force to be reckoned with. The power she holds, something she often wishes she did not have, is merely a tool to protect, and to uphold the rights of the many rather than her own. She is more selfless than she often seems and cares much more about her friends and comrades then she does her own self. Sadly this has led to her being rather scared of the world, relying very firmly on her friends to keep her emotionally stable, if not mentally so as well.
While she is certainly sane, she is certainly not stable as her naivety blocks her from the most heinous fact about herself: her zanpakuto. While still having an attraction to the opposite sex, more than she'd like to admit actually, she is rather naive and even child-like to some degrees. She loves sweet things and would much rather have a fun chat with friends over tea than go to the sparring field...unless it is Ceon or Koda. Now, there is a slightly darker aspect to her, but it is not all that notable. Umeyuka has a lot of fear, and a lot of anger hidden beneath the surface of her kind exterior. Her anger she is totally unaware of and is bound mostly to her zanpakuto, but her fear...her fear is something to be terrified of. Be it that one startles her too much or scares her with something that'd made a normal person just jump and scream a bit, she will go either into a fear induced killing spree, or her reiatsu will react, crushing most anything in her surroundings.
SpoilerBorn diseased, both in mind and body, Umeyuka was never exactly right. Despite that, she lived long yet her body deteriorated with the passing of time. She survived much longer then the doctors thought possible, but nonetheless died at the age of 63. Her soul leaving her body, something strange happened, Koutenshi -her alternate personality- attacked her memories and her half of the soul so that when Umeyuka awoke she remembered nothing of her life and her body had regressed. Feeling confused and afraid of her new environment, she wandered for many days, no one came to help her.
on the 3rd day hollows attacked and she was sent flying by a bludgeon of a paw, straight into a wall. Her eyes tried to stay open, alert, but she fell unconscious and blacked out. When she awoke the entire area was rubble, as she had only lived in a small village. The hollow was not dead, or gone, rather it was cowering, as massive as it was. She gradually found herself laughing, though it was much more like she was watching herself do it rather than feeling it. When she stopped laughing the slight fear returned and she fled the place, but the hollow did not even try to pursue her, it was frozen in complete shock. Several hours later a shinigami would arrive and kill it off with ease.
The true curiosity to this shinigami would be what had happened, though he'd probably assume it was the hollow, but one hollow making all that damage was rather...unlikely. Meanwhile Umeyuka simply wandered about, but no hollows came near her anymore. Soon the shinigami located her and trying to approach, she noticed and in that moment it was decided. The shinigami was nearly crushed by the weight of the sudden spiritual pressure, it was as if an entire universe's gravity were pressing down on him, but also as if it was restrained, some of it was not reaching him. He could not move, he could not speak, and the surroundings took a toll from the fluctuating and destructive pressures. Trees bent and splintered, the grass was flattened, the ground cracked and splintered deeply. The air trembled, and a storm appeared to begin its gathering.
Trying to muster his strength just to survive the constant bombardment, the two were locked in the struggle for a long time. He of course managed to call reinforcements, but they were similarly incapacitated. EVentually there were approximately 50 or so shinigami, all pressed flat against the ground, and unconscious. Finally a captain was sent, and while he could move somewhat, and talk, he could get no nearer then 2 yards before the pressure was too much. They called in the only other option: Ceon Tavar. He could handle it, but he had to exert some of his own to let him and the others move once more. Approaching the girl, now curled up in the fetal position and in a state of partial shock, he knelt and put his hands on her shoulders delicately and did his best to calm her.
Her shock eased and instead she lunged forward into the kind man's arms and cried. The pressure eased up quickly after and a solemn silence filled the air, only broken by her gentle sobs.
After that day she was finally sent to soul society, soul burial preformed, where she met Koda off the bat. Afterall someone with such potential could not simply be ignored and thrown into the rukongai, there would have been hell.... Finding the big man a bit foreboding she hid behind Ceon, who had come with her. Ceon and Koda gave one another a look and then Koda's attention turned back to Umeyuka. Ceon convinced her to not be so timid as Koda was just as kind as him, she listened but was barely convinced. From that moment on the 3 formed a rather interesting bond. Both became like brothers, mentors, and friends. Her youthful mind found a certain attraction for both, but the expression of it never truly manifested due to her shyness.
Her little crushes continued on and developed gradually over time despite the difference in age, rank, and experience between the 3. She never voiced her feelings, she never made it uncomfortable. What she did do, was make both of them proud, that was until a coarse argument between the 3 regarding her inability to focus reiatsu. It had started with training exercises and devolved into arguments as she continued to fail and said a few less than pleasant things to Ceon. When Koda tried to mediate later he found fire spit at him as well, so to speak, and a stark silence fell over their friendship.
She withdrew to give them space, she thought, and began wandering aimlessly like all those years ago. Afterall it had been 100 years, of course strange was it that she stumbled upon the captain of the 12th division, a man who'd gained the rank only a year or so ago. They hadn't spoken much, he vaguely recalled his name as Tatasu-... or something. Greeting her in a somewhat friendly fashion, the two ended up talking. For you see these were the days before the cold glacier had rolled in on Shougaku's mind, the days before he became the monster that some can see him as today.
Offering her some advice, Tatasu-san -as she called him- explained to her the concept of Reiatsuhei(Spiritual pressure warfare) where one uses their spiritual pressure as a weapon. Once a week or so she would come back to him, and he would help her focus her reiatsu to some extent and while it was not much, she did manage to learn the basics of the art. Eventually she went back and consoled with her two dearest, Koda and Ceon, and apologized. The 3 made up fairly well, though the memory of adversity would always remain, and those words of anger would dwell in their minds as unsure truths. What had she meant by they hadn't been looking at her, hadn't noticed, what did that mean?
Of course, it was awkward for some time following that but they were excited for her mysterious progress in controlling her reiatsu, though they estimated that it'd be another few hundred years before she could have any great degree of control. What they hadn't surmised was that her zanpakuto would awaken so easily, and that its influence would assist the woman greatly in her exploits. The blade's states opened up to her with ease, but still something strange dwelled in that blade for neither Koda nor Ceon ever felt comfortable when Tene, as she was called, was active.
Still though, time passed and she progressed, even unlocking bankai, but not with much access really. Her rank was raised to lieutenant of the 1st division, under her dear Koda -though Koda was likely still to not know-. It is here that she has been for the last 20 or so years, and here that she has remained loyal, even in the face of betrayal. She stands firm, or as firm as she can, to help not only her two dearest ones, but also the seireitei as a whole. Not to mention poor Tatasu-san...the one who lost his way.
SpoilerZanjutsu: Among all her skills, this one is where she has invested the most. Not only has she trained under 4 of the best in soul society -notably Reihei inori, Koda Ikoubei, Ceon Tavar, and Keiasu Haiyou- she has also intuitively began to merge their styles into one expansive whole. While it is not complete, it is a marvel to watch her fight, not to mention that her zanpakuto's unique form allows for another level or so of versatility.
Hoho: So fast is she that she is considered on par with, or above, Sakiko's skill and closely nearing Artori and Ceon's level of speed. In fact she is so fast that Artori was able to teach her a few of his techniques.
Sensory Capabilities: Her sensory capabilities are rather high as her reiatsu is so thick that she can plausibly feel people moving through it with ease.
Intelligence: While smart, Umeyuka has trouble remembering things long term. Conversely her short term memory, perceptual capabilities, problem-solving, and reaction speed are considerably advanced. Her short term memory and retention is so well developed, plus her perception, that she can memorize and percieve the moves of her opponents on a level that seems to be gradually nearing Shougaku's.
Spiritual Pressure: Unstable and utterly astounding, her reiatsu levels have been likened to the three monsters of soul society: Shougaku Tatasuko, Ceon Tavar, and Koda Ikoubei. However her control of said reiatsu is another story entirely as she cannot keep hers at a stable level or even a normal stability. Instead her ambient spiritual pressure constantly fluctuates with her mood and actions. This is of course an extremely troublesome trait of hers as it means that her intentions are very clearly felt through her reiatsu and so she cannot be tricky or devious, not that she would want to. Conversely, her zanpakuto can easily handle said reiatsu for the most part.
Stamina: Due to her huge amount of spiritual pressure, she has an utterly massive amount of stamina...sometimes. You see her spiritual pressure fluctuates and thus so does her stamina, the higher her reiatsu, the longer she can fight.
Durability: Though her other skills are well rounded out, this is one of the few she does not have. Her body is fairly weak in comparison to most with her strength, but she can be seen to take a fair amount of hits and still be able to get back up and fight. The more determined, the stronger this becomes as her reiatsu focuses and creates a pseudo heirro the more that she is resolved and focused.
Hakuda: Her skills in hand to hand are similar to hers in durability, but slightly lower. While she can do some low level maneuvers and the like with Hakuda, she is not to experienced or good at it and much rather rely on her zanpakuto and other skills.
Kido: While possessing a high threshold for the skill it has been noted that without a focusing point she cannot use it due to her reiatsu's instability. Thus this is likely her lowest skill...or is it?
SpoilerReiatsuhei(Spiritual pressure warfare): Having learned only the basics from Tatasu-san, Umeyuka cannot use it nearly as effectively as its creator. However, she can focus her spiritual pressure over medium to large areas and restrain people or send them blasting in a direction in that radius. She doesn't have enough focus to send reiatsu inwards on some from every direction, but she can send it outwards from one point all at once. She is also trying to figure out if she can influence someone else's reiatsu with this ability.
Kido-giri(Demon arts cut): By channeling kido through a zanpakuto, the user can have their zanpakuto assist, refine, and strengthen any kido. Umeyuka discovered this off of Tatasu-san whom told her of reiatsuhei. She essentially applied that concept and what she could remember about zanpakuto, to formulate this style.
Hachōkan(Wavelength Perception): Due to her massive amount of ambient energy and high level of emotional empathy she has developed this ability on an unconscious level. In fact she actually has no idea that this exists, and thus it is used constantly and passively. While most individuals can 'read' people when they clash blades, and some go as far as Shougaku and have a 7th sense, Umeyuka's ability is rather unique. Since emotions are energy(reiryoku) just as reiatsu is, she can actually feel other people's emotional frequencies through her aura. This means she can essentially read peoples intentions, their mental state, their emotions, and a wide variety of other things. If she were aware of this it would become a powerful tool, but for now it is not much more than an enhanced sensory capability and a knack for understanding people despite being largely unable to understand herself. This has the potential to manipulate other people's energies, but she has no idea about it so that is currently irrelevant. This ability also allows her to detect large energetic disturbances with barely any regards to distance. It works to the extent that reiryoku or reiatsu spikes large enough can be sensed by her even from other dimensions (Hueco mundo, the world of the living, the precipice world, hell, and the seireitei).
Daihyō-saku michi no ō(Masterpiece of an unknown king): Integrating everything she has ever learned regarding swordsmanship and the zanpakuto, Daihyō-saku michi no ō is an incomplete kenjutsu with the potential to eventually surpass all others. With both sudden, and fluid motions, it can appear deceivingly choppy only to reveal its true grace through execution. By implementing the use of her zanpakuto she has found that she can focus reiryoku and reiatsu through the blade in a manner that utilizes both her skills in reiatsuhei and kido-giri. While she is unaware of it, her Hachōkan acts as a guiding principle here by shifting her stance intuitively to match the holes in her opponent's defenses. Continuing in its vast versatility, this style combines the use of Sayajutsu, or the art of sheath wielding, and battōjutsu, the art of the quickdraw. By allowing the sheath to guide the force and trajectory of her blade, and her blade's movement to guide the direction of the sheath -in addition to her intuitive sense for her opponent's actions- she can both quickdraw and re-sheath, while using the sheath in a flash to block or slap away another attack fast enough to move it back and re-sheath in a single instant. While still incomplete, it is these skills which allow her a unique kind of pseudo-mastery in the area of zanjutsu.
SpoilerUtsusemi(Cicada, referencing their molting): It allows for a movement at great speed leaving an afterimage behind. The afterimage may even appear to have taken damage.
Ukishima(Floating mass): By using his shunpo into the air and then adding several steps as he moves again, he leaves behind an afterimage of himself that can actually do several movements. The frightening thing is he can execute an actual attack with this. The purpose is to however leave the moving afterimage, and follow up while the opponent focuses on that.
...Who am I Really?
Zanpakuto Spirit Personality: Cheerful and bringing good fortune to those she wishes to, Koutenshi is a kind and supportive being in the eyes of Umeyuka. While the traits are not outright lies they are certainly not whole truths. For if we look deeper the fact of the matter is that Koutenshi is a conniving, manipulative, and evil little minx. She loves battle, derision, conflict, violence, and any form of manipulation with an incredible zeal. Of course none of it ever shows, and the only ones who can truly sense it are those of intense power. She has of course been succeeding in her primary venture, which is to take over Umeyuka's body completely for her and her beloved Tene.
Zanpakuto Spirit & Inner World:
Bankai State: Both monster and woman.
SpoilerHer zanpakuto takes the form of an elongated Hachiwara.
Shikai: Blade in her right hand and just above her chest and a fee inches from the middle, she speaks, her other palm open and in the mirrored position "Sh-sharpen the mind and turn asunder,...." She moves her left arm so that her forearm and hand block a portion of the blade just below the curved spike. She then pulls the blade downwards with her right hand and moves her forearm upwards vertically while keeping it in a horizontal position. More hooked spikes form and when she finishes this process she raises the blade to a diagonal, ready to swing and proclaims "Koutenshi Tene no uta(Skylark's Tenebrous song)."
Abilities: Upon the release of her hidden curse, the holes in Umeyuka's zanpakuto becomes wreathed in reiryoku which each form a sphere. Each sphere's center point is in the hole of the blade, but they expand out from those about 1/4th of an inch or so. These spheres along with the white edge of her blade are the basis of her zanpakuto's abilities. Generally though, her zanpakuto focuses her reiatsu into her blade and speeds it up as well as having it resonate with her body and travel through. This stimulates her muscles and allows them to act with more force, faster aka making her able to move faster than she normally can. Additionally this rapid revolutionary movement of her reiryoku through the zanpakuto is released in tiny increments through the small spheres which creates a vague mist of reiryoku that wreaths her blade with a rough radius of 4.5 feet. This mist conducts the cheerful, pain relieving and vaguely madness inducing properties of Koutenshi's personality.
If the mist is inhaled or enters an individual through wounds while being around them, it will cause their mood to increase by increments in a positive direction while also slightly stimulating the madness that dwells deep within everyone. If an individual intakes enough of the mist they will end up laughing as if on laughing gas and it will amplify their madness till they can no longer control themselves, not to mention that their pain is dulled and eventually gone. This mist has the effect of stimulating reishi in the wind as well and thus gives her zanpakuto an ability of wind manipulation. The spheres can be used for a variety of applications and they reform over a period of approximately 30 seconds.
SpoilerAgehibari(Soaring skylark): By releasing a single sphere from its hole and letting it wreath the top of the blade where the hooks run, she can form another blade on that side. When she slashes this blade will allow her to then slash back the other way and send off and eruption of reiryoku and wind. If utilized at close range it acts like a directed explosion, but if used from mid-long range it will be sent off as a slash and explode when triggered or hit.
Shinkū tsubasa(Increasing wings): By releasing any amount of spheres, as more equals a stronger effect, Umeyuka can thrust the blade forwards sending her reiatsu invisible behind her target, and then pull her arm back quickly. The reiatsu will bond and condense forming reiryoku and taking hold of the wind. This will blast the target from behind and act as a suction towards her blade.
Hibari kayō(Skylark song): This technique has two adaptations to it, but both are initiated by the activation of all 5 spheres. Once active the spheres will all expand rapidly until each obscures a portion of the blade. Then a sound will be heard that is reminscent of a skylark's natural call amped, slowed down, and made almost into a song. Anything further than this is a divergence from the similarities between the two applications.
Hibari kayō-Kyōmei yamabiko(Skylark song-Echo resonance): The spheres stay where they are and swell further till the entire blade, including the tsuba(grip) and her hand, are engulfed. Then the reiryoku begins to vibrate as the zanpakuto focuses its speed altering properties into the spheres. After a brief moment the perimeter of the sphere's becomes solid while the inside thrums and release a distinct tune. This tone echoes and amplifies as it hits things and reverberates even further. It is the amplified effects of the mist's basic ability and it is unavoidable as the vibrations will still enter you even if your ears are blocked. The only way to stop it is to disrupt her conversation or hit the blade. The blade can thus not be used to attack in this state.
Hibari kayō-Shishuku fuwa(Skylark song-Ardent discord): Flicking the blade slightly the spheres will slide down the length of the blade with a sound like sliding water and the howling of a discordant storm. Reaching the tip of the blade they will combine and focus into a large sphere. Beginning to vibrate at a low off-key frequency, the sphere's energies accelerate faster and faster until they release a howling storm of sound; like shrieking wind and low pitch intonations, the sound resounds in its discordant fashion. From this point on, Umeyuka must do her best to have the sphere make contact with her target. Not only this but the longer the sphere is heard, the more grating it becomes on the nerves of the listens and while it does no real damage and its effects are barely evident, this is not the case when it hits. When the sphere makes contact with its target it latches onto that single spot and then it expands to surround their entire body. From that moment on the individual is exposed to all the power and discordant fury of the sphere's reiryoku. Their body's pain receptors are amplified 2-3 fold and the sphere will either remain as such for up to 3 minutes or it will resonate even faster and cause actual internal and mental damage to the individual. If it remains their sense of touch is amplified by the aforementioned amount so that every single strike that Umeyuka lands is absolutely excruciating to endure. Battles often end soon after the use of this technique.
Bankai: Raising her blade to the sky she says the first half of the phrase "Descend to the gate..." this is followed by a slash directly down the middle of her body, blade pointing away from her "...and seal away its power,...." The blade becomes alight with her power and her reiatsu can be felt condensing inwards until it reaches a point. The tip of the blade gleams and she proclaims "...Bankai..." reiryoku erupts from the tip of her zanpakuto and engulfs her symmetrically and from within is heard "...Tene no himo: Ho suru Koutenshi no seiren uta(Leash of Tenebrous: Skylark's scouring song)." The reiryoku clears, moving mostly behind her to form a towering dark shape and a strange array. She and her bankai are revealed in all their horrible glory.
P.S. There is no book.
Abilities: Expanding upon its initial release, but also taking away, Umeyuka's bankai amplifies the power of its reiatsu focusing and acceleration. While the abilities of wind are still present they are considerably weaker and the state quite obviously focuses more on the two things behind Umeyuka, and her own reiatsu. The first of these being Koutenshi, now the dark specter, who -while made from illusions and reiryoku- is barely physical, can still have some intriguing effects on those she makes contact with. Behind even Koutenshi however, is the darkest manifestation of Umeyuka's zanpakuto, the being who Koutenshi answers to, the being who goes only by the name: Tene. Even now in her final release, Tene's full influence is held back, suppressed, due to the volatility and corruptive force he possesses. Lastly is the influence of her reiatsu and the corresponding reiryoku. Her body is amplified in its durability, strength, and speed as a starter. Besides that she can control Koutenshi's shadowy form to attack with what appear to almost be shadows. Other than this she can form her reiryoku into shields, blasts, and a variety of other semi-focused shapes. Due to her control though, she cannot freely make things that are small and/or complex. Umeyuka's bankai retains all techniques with the exclusion of Hibari kayō.
SpoilerHibari no gen'ei(Ghost skylark): This technique is passive and is linked exclusively to Koutenshi in the form of the dark specter. Koutenshi's body is composed of illusions and reiryoku. This allows it to grasp things, extend, change its shape, and to invoke the power of illusion once it makes contact. Additionally Koutenshi can separate herself into a mist which obscures vision, messes with the sense of smell, and dulls the 6th sense. Additionally this mist will have the similar effects to Hibari kayō-Shishuku fuwa thus causing their pain and pleasure receptors to be amplified 3 fold. Koutenshi can act independently to Umeyuka's will and unlike her master, the spirit can form complex and cohesive shapes, some of which Umeyuka herself can wield.
Tsurai kinbaku(Arduous bondage): The bonds and seals that manage to barely restrain Tene's power, these are naught but a final method to victory. However it ought be a flawed victory as Tene would consume Umeyuka as well in his ravenous fury. These can only be released by Umeyuka herself. Conversely, she can utilize these bonds by extending them with her reiryoku and using them to seal things to an incredible level, comparable to a level 99 kido.
Wa dai juushi no shisha(Harmony of the fourteen emissary): Considered the final technique, though like her shikai there are divergences, of her bankai, Wa dai roku no shisha focuses the majority of her reiryoku, including that which makes up Koutenshi's body, into 14 spheres each the size of small boulders. A powerful humming is emitted by the spheres, a slightly different tone for each. The tones go from low to high and only half of them are beneficial while the other half are off key and in-between the other 7.
Kōraku dai nana fuchōwa(The seventh disharmonic symphony): Focusing on the disharmonic 7 she amplifies their tune and the other 7 shrink as their kin grow in size and intensity. The sound is amplified and Umeyuka begins to feel the effects, at this point she must either condense the spheres into weapons, or send them at her opponent. The nearer the spheres are to her opponent, the more deadly they become. The sound that emits from these spheres is loud enough to drown out most other sounds and has the negative effects of causing hallucinations, amplifying pain by 4 times, and causing low level vibrations to flux through the target. The longer these are active and effect the target, the more likely they are to actually damage said target. At any point she can slam these spheres into her target and cause them to all amplify one another which ends in a horrible display of power which tends to eviscerate the body of the afflicted. This technique can last up to 5 minutes, but usually only lasts 3.
Enkatsu chi ~i Koutenshi no(Harmony of the seven skylarks): By focusing on the 7 harmonic spheres, the disharmonic seven shrink as their twins grow in size to compensate. As they do their tones are amplified and bombard her and everyone else in their powerful amplification. Other people's pleasure receptors are strengthened, which ironically makes pain seem more evident, as well as their urge to laugh being amplified. Their madness it gradually amplified and tapped into. Conversely, Umeyuka's bodily capabilities are amplified 10 fold and while she can tell if she is injured and how bad, the pain does not effect her and her skin is also hardened. Her skills are amplified somewhat going up about halfway higher than before. This technique lasts a maximum of 10 minutes with an approximate from 3-5 mins.
Tsuishō ~i tsugau futago - Fuchōwa ni jōho e(acquiescence to the seven paired twins-Symphony to concede): All fourteen spheres resonate even louder and all of her remaining ambient reiryoku, excluding what holds Tene at bay, is absorbed into the spheres which then condense slightly only to flux outwards and expand into a massive sphere. With a hemispheric radius of 50 yards, the sphere is essentially unavoidable. Once the sphere has fully expanded the resonation begins to take effect. A song of harmony and disharmony can be heard resounding within. Its song is unavoidable and potent for while this technique only lasts a maximum of 6 minutes, in which the song plays twice, its effects supersede this time limit. Amplifying the madness, pleasure, pain, physicality, reiatsu, and reiryoku of everyone within, this technique hyper charges everything within. Anyone below lieutenant level, and likely captain, will be totally overwhelmed -unless in bankai and that is questionable- by the dangerous amount of amplified abilities. While this technique in some ways assists her opponents, it also causes her to experience the same effects thus making it an incredibly dangerous technique. The one time it was utilized, was the first and last time, it caused her to black out and enter a partial coma that lasted for 4 days. She has not used it since, and does not realize just how dangerous it is to utilize, as if she fully succumbs to her madness, the arduous bonds that hold back her innermost dark, Tene, will be released.
