Existentialism: A Heroes-esque Role-play

December 21st, 2013 ...

The world watches in fear as a terrorist group known as Sin 13 takes over a Russian nuclear weapons facility. As months drag on by with the threat of a complete nuclear fallout from the near thousand warheads, news across the globe continues to report on the situation, urging the world leaders to take action. August 11th, 2013 is the date written into history when they were neutralized - most being killed as a Special Ops field unit made up of several different countries rushed in and effectively saved the world from destruction. Though no one to this day knows why Sin 13 threatened the world, making some speculate that it was a bluff - but for what?

It's four months later and people are still on edge, calling out for blood and blame, wanting to call someone out to root out the problem so it never happens again. They are scared - everyone is scared, even if they don't admit it - and even worse, they don't understand. However there are bigger things coming in Sin 13's wake. Unknown to all but a select percentage of the world's population, people are experiencing strange things. Alien things. Certain individuals are displaying abilities, well beyond the norm of humans. Some see these people as heroes, some as villains, some as dangerous ... but what it comes down to, is simple - Evolution.

I'm starting a role-play that takes after the spirit of the TV series, Heroes. Humanity is evolving and this role-play is designed to explore those rare individuals who have been gifted with these special abilities. Will they be heroes? Will they be villains? Will they reject them and try and live normal lives? Of course there is a plot afoot in the background and everything a character does can affect the outcome and what shapes the world around them. For now though, they are just normal people discovering they aren't as normal as they thought they were ...

The process will be simple. You put your interest in and when I'm confident I can at least get a total of six people (myself included), I'll start the OOC. Then I'll have all relevant info pertaining to character sheets and how we'll decide powers - which I'll tell you right now will be random (mostly, players will have some control, like being able to reroll once). This is a bit less about being superheroes and a bit more about exploring the discovery of those special abilities and the reality of how it'd take place if it were to happen.

I'm definitely interested in the setting. I liked the good season of Heroes. And Hero Nakamura was cool. Please mark me down for it.

As a point on random powers, I think that it's an original idea and could definitly be fun and exciting.

Though I should probably say, I think people can also play suprise and discovery in character whilst thinking of a power by themselves.

I think a lot depends on what powers you have on the list, as exploring certain powers may be limiting. But I'm sure you've already considered that.

Basically, what I'm saying is that nobody....and I mean nobody....wants to be Aquaman

Well as far as powers go, there's a few devices to help players have some measure of control. I give everyone one reroll and you don't need to keep that reroll - you can still go with the original roll that was given. I'm also giving everyone "preferred choice" which means, say you want enhanced strength and it's number 21, but you roll super speed and it's number 20 ... I'll go ahead and push your roll by one to give you that enhanced strength - this works for rerolls too.

Anyways, so I have about 5 definite interests and a few with mild or less interest. I'll look into making an OOC later unless someone backs out.
