    Pathfinder: Underworld

This is a game of D&D using Pathfinder rules, because I don't know the setting of Pathfinder but I in all ways prefer its rules. Not that setting is going to matter much in this RP for reasons you will soon discover.

Your characters are established, probably been on a dozen adventures or escapades, but the point is you're pretty well known either in fame, infamy or ambiguity, sort of the next level of a local hero.
But as you kick your feet up at the local tavern musing about your successful career, the world quakes for a moment.
And just as you're about to dismiss it, it quakes again.
Indeed, you'll quickly discover this is happening across the entire world at the same time.
The quakes proceed to occur every now and then as the week goes on, until news spreads of a giant crevasse that has opened up in the ground somewhere and revealed the tip of an iceberg of ruins whose architecture has never been seen, ever. Wizards quickly determined the crevasse was a sort of 'Eye of the Storm' for the global earthquakes, thus whatever was causing them was inside the ruins.

Naturally, a group of adventurers went to investigate, and... only one came back, and was shot to death by the guard outpost that had been setup there because he was in the form of some eldritch horror.
The quakes are only small, but their frequency and persistence is very slowly destroying everything and even slowly causing cracks in the ground, hence there's quite a lot of incentive to go stop whatever it is.

Militaries from all over the world are converging on the crevasse and sending armed expeditions into the ruins, but progress is slow and troublesome; inside the ruins, reality lacks coherency: a cavern here, wide open skies the next -but the ruins don't lead outside, it's like the open skies are of a completely different world. And the monsters... wizards are still trying to figure out where they come from down here...

Your characters will probably have just arrived at the converged mega-camp the combined militaries have set up around the crevasse.
I might build a map at some point.

    Intricacies:

    • Would prefer 4 characters but will go up to 6
    • Starting level is 10, standard wealth for that level which should be 62k I think.
    • Level 10 is pretty impressive in this world. Probably not so much in the Underworld.
    • Try to make it easy for me to locate any non-core stuff that you use. e.g. provide links.
    • I'm allowing flaws from 3.5 but you need 2 flaws for 1 bonus feat.
    • Store characters in Mythweavers using the Pathfinder sheets.
    • Dice rolling will be done in Invisible Castle. Roll 4d6 keep highest 3 for stats, free 18.
    • World is unwritten: meaning you can invent all kinds of towns and terrain and ancient ruins and people for the sake of your character's backstory, even write about some particular quest your character went on, whatever you like.
    • DM is amateur: I won't lie, I'm using you guys as guinea pigs, and this is just as likely to take off as it is to crash, but as I'm trying to learn here, expect timely reboots of the thread with your DM slightly more prepared/experienced. The goal is to have the game stay afloat longer with each incarnation, all that's required is patience and faith.
    • Underworld is DM's playground: I built the setting so I could literally throw whatever I wanted at the players without it being completely incoherent and frustrating, so it's controlled and I can treat each scenario as an experiment. Fortunately I also designed something of a plot that'll still work with such a haphazard setting so I'm somewhat confident it won't get repetitive or aimless.
    • DM is experimenting: Deserves reiteration and clarification; I'll be trying lots of weird and whacky things, so don't expect too much consistency -feedback and suggestions are welcome though, if I know you like some system then I'll try and keep using it.
    • DM is trying to have fun: It's likely I'll steer the game towards interesting scenarios like sieging/infiltrating castles and various environmental challenges and attempt to skip some of the boring stuff if it doesn't help with contrast or atmosphere. That being said:
    • It isn't just about the DM: If you're not having fun, voice your concern and your interests -in PM if you have to, just make it clear -simply hinting it runs the risk of it not being heard and you being bored. I'm not going to demand you have fun, but I am going to demand you inform me if you're not having fun and more importantly why. If you're not having fun then you're not really 'playing' the game are you?
    • DMPC: I'm already aware of common issues with these, hence I've already devised a few tactics against it; stuff like she's either going to be semi-useless or be tortured/tormented/targeted-by-the-DM's-magnifying-glass. Maybe I'll devise a combo of all of them if I feel the necessity.

DMPC I'm probably going to use: Zhali

I would gladly be your co DM. I've been doing D&D for years and Pathfinder as well. I could gladly guide you along the process and art of DM'ing, but we'll have to use a different platform for roleplay.

If any of you have heard of Maptool, you'll know exactly what's planned. Unfortunately it means you all need to be on at the same time, and that is hardly ever happening in a place like this since we tend to be from all over the world, but hear me out.

Maptool is basically a Java-based utility that allows players from around the world join a server hosted by the DM and bring their own 'Tokens' (miniatures), have a game map in front of them, stats that can be appended to the tokens, as well as dice being rolled in the chat. Campaigns can be saved, along with all the chat logs. Private messages can even be sent to send specific messages to certain players so that the rest are not immediately alerted to something that would otherwise be player knowledge.

If not, I'll still stick around and check it out. I'd love to do some Pathfinder. If you don't want a Co DM I'll gladly be a player. Or both.

A co-DM probably wouldn't be too bad if it weren't for the nature of this particular game, as they'd have trouble keeping up or providing more help than a normal player would, as I'm building scenarios that'll help me learn and trying different methods on the fly. And some of these scenarios are gonna be a little crazy, not really something Maptool can handle, even if it was feasible to get several people with their own lives in different timezones on at the same chunk of hours.

At any rate you can still be a player, I'm sure your expertise will show through in some way.

Yeah play-by-post for any game meant to be Tabletop just doesn't ever work here. Ask anyone who has tried one. They go on for maybe thirty posts and die because people forget about the thread, they lose interest because it's not going fast enough, and they never level up. There is no feasible way to level up at all if you do play-by-post tabletop. Good luck though.
