Veronika stood slightly bent forward, looking at the disheveled pilot. "Austin. If I catch you at the bar again trying to catch a drink before a flight, I'll report you to the board. I don't give a damn who you know, drinking is dangerous and fucking stupid." She hissed the curse word at him, knowing that she was in uniform and smiled as patrons were passing her and confirming their flights as they waited for permission to board their appropriate flights. "Come on Veronika baby. You aren't getting any younger. I'm sure there's a cougar in you. Let me help you find it sometime.." the young pilot replied, leaning in a bit too close to Veronikas face. She grimaced from a combination of surprise and disgust. It was taking everything she could to not smack the cheeky smirk off of his spray tanned face and laugh as his green eyes roll back into his head. Instead, she stood, smoothed the wrinkles in her pencil skirt and approached the bar, walking directly past Gene. Courteously, she smiled and nodded noting that he had previously been scratching at his stubble.
"A quick bottle of water please?" she asked the man behind the counter, sliding her credit card across the tabletop and waiting while he swiped her card, grabbed her drink and let her be on her way. Veronika sighed as she looked at her phone. Another voicemail from Anne. She shook her head and whispered to herself "Hang in there. I'm coming..."
LATER - ON THE PLANE
Veronika reached for the small handheld device that allowed her to speak to the entire plane. "Good morning travelers. We at Delta would like to remind you that we will be reaching Denver, Colorado by the early afternoon. We ask that you please shut off any and all electronic devices including your cell phones. Please note, that 'Silent' and 'Vibrate' options mean that your cellular device is still 'On'. In a few minutes, the seat belt symbol will light up and your hostess' will all come around and make sure everyone is buckled in properly for take off. Again, thank you for choosing Delta and we hope you enjoy your flight." Veronika returned the device back into the holster above the door frame, pushing through the curtain and into the passenger cabin. She had a soft smile on her face, one that wasn't entirely genuine but wasn't large enough to seem faked. She made her rounds, stopping about every three rows to check in with the passengers, unless stopped by request. Walk. One. Two. Third row. Stop. Smile. Make sure everything is okay. Nod. Repeat. "This is your captain speaking. As you will all notice, the seat belt light has just come on. Please take your seats and get comfortable while we prepare for lift off. If you have questions, feel free to ask one of the lovely ladies on board." and then the sound of the walkie-talkie like device shutting off. Austin may be a douche bag of a person but he was an exceptional pilot. Smiling, Veronika walked to the immediate next row, helping a couple on her left properly secure their childs seat, receiving a shy 'Thank you' from the small boy. Her smile softened and she turned to her right, vaguely recognizing the man as the one she had nodded to at the terminal. "Would you like me to assist you with your safety buckle sir? Or, is there something I can get you? A drink? Perhaps, earbuds to listen to the on board satellite radio?" She tilted her head to the side and watched him for reaction or response.
